Tom let's go to a month -- as we go back to governor Romney.

Some of his best moments from last night.

I don't have a five trillion dollar tax cut I don't have a tax cut.

Upscale that you're talking about my view is that we -- to provide tax relief to people in the middle class but I'm not gonna reduce the share of taxes paid by high income people.

High income people are doing just fine in this economy they'll do fine -- -- president Ryan to people who are having a hard time right now are middle income Americans.

Under the president's policies middle income Americans have been very.

They're they're just being crushed I will not reduce the share.

Paid by high income individuals.

I know that you and your running -- keep saying that and I know it's a popular thing to say with a lot of people but it's just not the case but I -- five boys.

I'm used to people.

-- something that's.

Not always true but just keep on repeating it and ultimately hoping I'll believe it but that that is not the case my priority is putting people back to work in America.

They're suffering in this country.

And we talk about evidence.

Look at the evidence the last four years.

It's -- extraordinary.

We've got 23 million people out of work.

Or stop looking for work in this country.

All right it's just it's we got we -- support the president took office 32 million people on food stamps 47 million on food stamps today.

I'm sorry Jim I'm at a stop the subsidy to PBS I'm at a stop other things I like PBS I -- big bird actually like YouTube but I'm not gonna.

I'm not gonna keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay -- -- you get a deduction for taking a plant overseas.

What I've been in business for 25 years.

I have no idea what you're talking about I maybe need to get a -- accomplished.

But but the the idea that you get a break for shipping jobs overseas is simply not the case.

And do you agree governor that that may be the altitude had an impact on the president last night because that was Al -- here.

-- it was a chance for each of us to describe our vision for the country.

And the president talked about his vision which was basically a continuation of the policies of the last four years he wants another stimulus.

He wants to have government investing for us.

He wants to hire more government workers.

He wants to raise taxes as a Vice President Biden boarded up today they they wanna raise taxes by -- trillion dollars more like two trillion by our calculation but.

Look -- he's laid out the same policies but he's been following for the last four years.

And I don't think that sells very well when people hear that.

He he also did have the chance to continue to misrepresent my views I get the chance to present my own perspectives and I think that helped me.

If you think to some extent that the Obama campaign is over reached.

By calling you a tax cheat and attacking Bain Capital.

And even suggesting that you were responsible for the death of this man's wife jokes optic.

Etc.

-- in other words and that they spend millions and millions of dollars advancing a narrative.

Against you.

And -- the president himself saying that your plan as -- dirty air dirty water and and you want kids with autism and -- from the elderly to fend for themselves.

-- to some extent that do you think that by over reaching in then when people had a chance to see both side by side that it may be that that partly played into.

The overwhelming belief by the American people that you're not this evil monster that Barack Obama painted into being.

Well that may be part of the the event last night that's what I hope we had the chance to do is to actually see people and and and describe what I want to do to help the American people.

You know I have watched as some of the attacks that have come my way it is shake your head.

I do recall that in the president's acceptance speech for years ago he said that if you don't have a record to run out -- you attack your opponent.

-- tried disqualify your opponent and an early on in this campaign there were Democrat strategist won a particular who said their campaign strategy was to kill Romney.

Hopefully not literally.

This that this kind of character assassination.

Is something which I think is gone way too far.

And I I think is an unfortunate part of this -- campaign in the president's part I think it diminishes the White House that the the nice thing about last night from my standpoint.

Was that we each got -- talk about our own vision for America and where we take it.

And I think the American people in the final analysis will put aside the theatrics.

And we'll focus on who can make my life better and I'm convinced.

That the policies I described will make life better for the American people but with 35.

Is there is now a concerted effort to deconstruct.

What happened last night and and so like make people doubt what they saw.

And the term that he that we played earlier that you lied.

That you misrepresented.

That you were acting.

Well the president in Denver -- kind of double down on the same narrative.

And I wanted to give you a chance to respond to what he said earlier today.

So you -- the men -- last night.

He does not want to be held accountable.

For the real Mitt Romney -- decisions and what he's been saying for the last year.

And that's because he knows full well.

We don't want what he's been selling from last year.

I.

For governor -- -- them -- possessions.

But if you want to be president -- all the American people the truth.

Seems like is insinuating governor that you -- lying your reaction.

Well.

Obviously the president wasn't happy with.

The response to to our debate last night in and day -- the reality is that over the last couple years I've been followed by.

I don't know how many members of the media it's quite a quite a crew that we travel around with that they go to my rallies and go to the roundtable site.

Participated in they hear the things that I'm saying to folks and it's the same message I've been saying across America which is I want to bring our tax rates down.

I want to lower deductions and exemptions broadened the base if you will particularly for people at the high end.

I do want to bring a big tax reduction for people the top and I want their share of the tax burden to remain as it is today a wanna help middle income taxpayers.

These are messages I've been talking about across America and what I find so offensive about his tax plan.

Is by raising taxes on small business as he does he will kill jobs.

And right now what America needs.

-- much as anything else is more jobs more jobs more take home pay that's the whole focus of my campaign.

And I know what the president's been campaigning.

-- and saying about me is very different.

The what I actually have what actually believe -- I I think that's where the difference came.

What the president's been saying and the reality are pretty far apart from me ask you this -- is still one of the things that that liberals were so angry about.

And and you didn't bring up for example.

-- moment that -- the president would long like to forget you know when the president said.

That people in the midwest to Pennsylvania Ohio were bitter clinging to god guns Bible religion a comment that he made back in the 2008 campaign.

And and but the left seems furious that this tape -- you talked about the 47%.

Why didn't President Obama bring that up.

What would you set if they did bring it up.

Well it clearly and in a campaign with hundreds if not thousands of -- -- in question and answer sessions.

It down then you're gonna say something that the doesn't come out right in this case -- -- -- that's just completely wrong.

And I absolutely believe however that my life has -- That I care about a 100%.

And and that's been demonstrated throughout my life and this whole campaign is about the 100%.

When -- become president it will be at about helping the 100%.

As I put out last night in the debate.

The rich in this country are actually doing better and put under President Obama that the gap between the rich and the poor has got larger.

That the rich the rich are probably do fine even if he's reelected it's the middle class.

That's in real trouble -- President Obama is reelected and the poor I want the -- get into the middle class so many have fallen into poverty by virtue -- policies.

So this for me it's all about the 100%.

And they -- the president can.

-- can talk about the things you'd like to talk about I'm gonna talk about how gonna get America working again and help all the people this country.

It seemed like the president had a hard time he kept telling you about your -- you kept correcting -- no.

There you go again sort of moment that's not my plan.

You are saying some very specific things about how to increase revenues to the government how to balance the budget including putting the 760 billion dollars back in to Medicare.

Not cutting our defenses.

Keeping tax rates low and cutting taxes for the middle class.

And the president doesn't seem to understand that fewer people needing government assistance more people working.

A growing economy results more revenues to the to the government and people say well the math doesn't add up.

I wanna get another shot -- -- to explain it because maybe some people don't understand.

Exactly what you're saying and and how it is that a growing thriving economy actually is good for the federal government.

Because they benefit with revenue.

Well I think people can understand that if you raise taxes you might say well that's gonna bring more money to the government.

But don't forget if you raise taxes than people have less money of their own.

Particularly businesses big businesses small ones.

But the companies that are taxed at the individual tax rate if you raise taxes on them.

They have less money to spend and the hire people -- The best way to get a balanced budget at the federal government level.

Is to have this economy grow.

So more people are working if more people are working.

More people -- playing taxes and by the way if there's competition trying to hire people you know if there's lots of us.

Business activity wages go up take home pay goes up that's more tax revenue.

By far the most powerful way.

To get us to a balanced budget is to grow the economy and that's why my plan my tax plan which is estimated to create seven million jobs.

Will help us more than anything else to get -- that balance budget.

I know that you're dead it is this was not about foreign policy last night we have been following very closely on this program the issue and -- -- the death of our ambassador for the first time in thirty years to Navy SEALs.

Do you believe there's a cover up going on.

Well -- first let me note by -- by their condolences and sympathy for -- The families of those who lost their lives and and my respect.

For those who fought so bravely force -- so those two former seals.

The where there -- a private assignment they weren't working for the government it in a official capacity at the time this occurred I just.

I think so much of them I.

I believe obviously that what happened there was say tragic failure.

There have been warnings of a possible attack.

There were requests on the part of our of our I think -- commission there of our of our diplomats there rather to have additional.

Security forces they were turned down.

And then the following day the tragedy -- we saw well that it.

Misleading information coming from the administration and and in fact the president didn't acknowledge that this was.

A terrorist -- for for what a week or two.

I mean that this was a terrorist attack.

Lives were lost this happened on 9/11.

But we expect candor and transparency from the president from the administration and we didn't get it.

All right governor good to see you the night last night feel obviously everyone even liberals Chris Matthews agreed pretty amazing.

Thank you so much for being with us appreciated.

And come.
