Smart -- they are the demographic that is all coveted this year they -- female voters with children.
Eighteen years old or younger who shop at Wal-Mart at least once a month these women have been a key voting bloc in the last two elections.
So what do they think about this week's debate it will.
Their opinion actually swayed the election our next guests conducted a dial session with a group of Wal-Mart moms during the debate and focus group immediately following it Margie Romero -- DC she's democratic -- -- momentum analysis and Alex ratty.
Is out in Vegas she is a Republican pollster with public.
Opinion strategies ladies thanks to both of you for being here -- very quickly -- let me start with you these Wal-Mart moms they're all important and they also are undecided didn't.
Yes we talked to moms and we talked to moms who RD naturally more in the middle week.
We didn't talk to them -- to guarding me at their mind definitely not gonna change to really see.
How is swinging moms really view the debate and and what they thought and sat.
And a lot of moms felt they re -- and debate was a draw and a lot of -- and some mom's side -- -- you can have that any moms feel that Obama won.
But -- still wanted to hear -- more from both candidates -- not surprising.
That that was the outcome.
-- -- Let me just show one of the dials that you did this is where Mitt Romney was talking about something that obviously is important to Wal-Mart moms and that's education let's -- Number three make sure people have the skills they need to succeed and the best schools in the world -- -- far away from that now.
Number forward and get us to a balanced budget.
Number five.
Champions small business.
It's small business -- -- -- jobs in America and over the last forty years small business people who decided that America may not be the place to open a new business.
Because new business startups are down to a thirty year low.
I know what it takes to get small business going to again to hire people.
Wow Alex interest thing right you -- see when you saw that education the -- there steadily climbing.
Right exactly and Mitt Romney really seems that -- that door back open with the swing Wal-Mart moms in these debates.
You know that before they had somewhat -- tuning him out but a Wednesday night they saw -- candidate who had plans.
Who was talking about an issue that was really important to them like you just showed education.
They heard that he wants to have more qualified quality teachers and that is so important to them.
And they heard him talk about different parts of his plan as you saw those dials climbed just now.
Taking off his different parts that he would do so based on assertive candidate and they are open to listening to him again OK so Margie let's take a look at what happens.
When President Obama is talking here and he's talking about tax -- holes let's watch the dot.
But I also want to close.
Those loopholes that hard giving incentives for companies that are shipping jobs overseas I -- to provide tax breaks for companies that are investing here in the United States.
On and urging governor Romney and I we both agree that we've got to get a boost American energy production and oil and natural gas production -- higher than they've been in in years.
So you saw there again -- steep incline about what was it closing the loopholes or the domestic production.
Yeah at and it didn't Wal-Mart moms -- really responded they responded well to a lot of what the president said I think it's important note that while.
Mitt Romney had a better night than Obama it wasn't that mom says -- out whenever the president's that they really responded to a lot that he had to say whether his back could that.
We just watch or whether -- talking about how that country is stronger.
When we had a strong middle class when he told stories his own personal stories so.
I think there was a lot of what the president said that moms connected to I think we heard that.
The moms really wanna see -- what's happening and what's gonna happen in the next few debates and of course Alex we can imagine the moms are concerned about the economy -- we've been told about.
Wal-Mart moms is it they are more concerned about putting food on their table and gas in their tank -- they are the national debt.
That's stands to reason of course did those sorts of things come up during this debate with them.
Right exactly I mean -- small.
-- are trying to figure out every day how to make ends meet for their family and so.
When they heard the candidates talk about the economy and -- Marty just said the middle class that is an incredibly important topic for them.
They want to understand how governor Romney if he is elected our president Obama's he is reelected.
How their life is gonna be better over the next years and so.
Part of what they saw what was going on here was that Mitt Romney really did calm and connect with him -- -- what it connect with them in a way that they hadn't seen before.
And yet they didn't really hear as much for President Obama in terms of how things are going to be better or different.
And so for them as they look at these next seven debates they're going to be trying to figure out who is the candidate that's gonna better help them and their families in terms of economy.
And of course education and health care those are the three things that they really carry out for them and their families course and we can imagine they won't be undecided for much longer Margie Romero.
Out Alex Bradley thanks so much for coming in -- -- of styles.
Thank you thank you.
