I think it's not just an economic issue.
I think it's a moral issue.
I think it's frankly not moral for my generation to keep spending -- more than we -- again.
The politics financial -- morality governor Mitt Romney talked about that during his debate with President Obama.
Conservatives and liberals are both calling for movement towards.
A more moral economy for Republicans it's cutting spending and for Democrats -- asking that the rich to pay more.
Governor Mike Huckabee.
Fox is joining us now live governor great to have you here thank you to joining us today.
Thank you very much in -- pleasure to be here I know this is an important issue for you and I thought this would be a good time to really take a closer look at why you feel morality and the economy are linked.
Some people of called what's going on generational theft that's a very accurate description.
And I think by anybody's code of honor.
If you steal from somebody that is a moral issue that's what we're doing we're stealing from the generation that's coming after us.
We not think of it that way but if we're spending money that they're gonna have to pay back on our behalf we get the benefit of them the money being spent they get the burden.
That's immoral it's wrong to do that which is exactly what this huge sixteen trillion dollar debt represents.
-- it's a sand that the current state of affairs with such a huge debt in high unemployment is being accepted.
By some as a new normal.
I am -- and let let me be very fair this isn't just something Democrats have created this is something Republicans have done.
Republicans boast that they don't raise taxes.
That may be wonderful but if they don't pay for the things they spend money far.
That's no better.
The Democrats just spending money and -- wanting to have to raise taxes.
And -- rich people -- for that matter poor people which frankly that's what the taxes of -- That's why they did both parties have got to accept that they've got dirty hands and culpability.
Recognize we're not gonna fix this by shouting at each other in going to the far corners we're gonna do it by coming together and recognizing.
That debt is a crisis that it's got to be addressed by mature adults not everyone is gonna get everything they want in fact no one will get everything they want.
Everybody's got to be willing to -- to recognize a real solution.
They talk about debates from I -- do -- and that the debate that just happened we missed hearing more about America's exceptional isn't.
Well with a one moment that I thought we really got a piece of that was when Mitt Romney turned behind him.
And pointed to the constitution and the declaration of independence that was part of the set.
And very movingly he spoke of how.
Those -- the governing principles I thought it was one of the high moments of the debate in and a great moment for Mitt Romney to show.
A level of connection.
To the constitution to the declaration to the founding principles of America.
And really to touch our emotional buttons and remind this week -- -- great country.
Not just because we're so great ourselves we're great because the foundation on which we stand as solid.
Solid rock and that's that's very powerful and because you believed.
Many of us believe that we are -- great country that we ten.
Six what's going on right now that we can make a difference and cut this debt and a big way.
We can but we can't do it just by cutting taxes.
You know and hoping the economy grows and we can't do it simply by.
Spending more hoping that stimulates the economy the real way to get out of the debt crisis is to grow the economy.
And the way to grow the economy is to create real sense of I guess the excitement about people making investments.
If taxes go -- Investment slows down.
And if we -- get to the place where regulation causes it to be too difficult to succeed in business we can't grow.
But if we open up our marketplace if we stop punishing productivity.
Right now that's what our tax system does.
We punish the productive and we underwrite.
And we subsidize the recklessly irresponsible through bailouts to big banks and insurance companies and car companies.
The fact is that people who are working hard in doing well small business owners and even big business owners who aren't asking for -- uncle sugar to fix it forum.
Those -- the folks -- getting punished and that is not the way to grow the economy changed that and we can get out of this debt problem.
Governor Mike Huckabee always a pleasure to have you on board thank you so much for joining us today.
Thank you immigrate to talk to you.
