According to the American Cancer Society about 577000.
Americans are expected to die of cancer this year that's more than 15100 people on day.
But our next guest is trying to get that number down by -- treatment on a superhighway a new system will accelerate the time.
In which doctors receive information to best treat cancer patients.
-- -- to explain his world renowned.
Doctor philanthropist and founder of networks LL CMR Patrick -- -- good to see you.
Morning.
Please explain this super computer system to us what is -- Well I think when other problems we have.
In health care chronic diseases including cancer.
-- ability of the dots -- give information in real time.
And we have such data overload.
So the idea now to take advantage of the human genome.
Country takes -- and weeks to actually get the information but that's after the treatment is begun.
So imagine if in fact how could we ever hope to.
-- get better results and overcome.
Inappropriate care if we don't have the right care before treatment begins.
So we've built a super computer.
And national infrastructure so we can actually do the analysis in 47 seconds.
47 seconds per patient instead of in many cases eleven weeks.
So how will this change this innovation how will this change the treatment for people who are getting cancer in our country and around the world.
Well I think the of -- changing now it is to really look at -- in a very different way.
In what -- the molecular at the cellular level.
So we've looked at cancer from anatomical perspective meaning that if you have breast cancer.
There's a drug that you give for breast cancer and you have lung cancer is -- you -- for lung cancer.
But now we've discovered that in fact the molecular pathways may be some -- -- meaning.
A patient's breast cancer could.
A pathway that treated by a drug it's treated in lung cancer and so the doctor at the point of care could have this information.
At what people did did gene level than molecular protein level.
And we did this and brought to before that to keep the treatment begins.
You have a quantifiable way of actually addressing cancer.
Doctor -- don't have a lot of time but I know that this is you know such such an amazing innovation and technology that can -- so many lives.
Do you fear that some of this innovation is going to be leaving United States some people argue that Obama cares -- take away some.
Well one of the concerns is this is a national infrastructure that is truly needed because.
Of the real opportunity of a medical science and we developing in this country.
And 21 centuries science is truly one of innovations that we America really has the best in the world.
But we stuck -- -- of twenty essentially delivery of health care.
So this kind of national infrastructure it must be developed and thankfully without private -- news.
We have.
Vision and the it is such as people that Intel Verizon AT&T and Bank of America.
Who -- -- with us to actually build.
This.
Superhighway as well as -- super computer so we can bring this.
Not on just a bit of country but to export to -- around the world.
Wow what an amazing story and for people who are battling cancer or those in the future this is good news.
As far as a timeline and treatment doctor Patrick soon -- on a thank you so much doctor thank you.
