Brand new national poll show Mitt Romney ahead of pres Obama after last week's debate.
He got himself a bump so -- the attacks.
A week ago Paul Ryan was asked explain the math.
Of a four point eight trillion dollar tax -- -- said I don't have time governor Romney had a masterful theatrical performance.
Just this past week but.
The underpinnings and foundation that performance were fundamentally dishonest.
If -- willing to say anything to get elected president if you're willing to make up your positions and walk away from the I think the American people have to understand how can they trust you if you are elected that's.
He is calling.
Romney and Ryan flyers a good strategy and couldn't backfire on the president he's supposed to be so likable.
We're here to weigh in our Washington insiders Republican strategist.
Familiar -- say and democratic pollster Margie American morning to both them.
Good morning good morning thank you up -- it does sound like according to New York Times today ten minutes before the end of the debate.
They were on a conference call team Obama was they were talking about OK that then he stunk up the place gonna have to go.
You know full steam ahead on a new attack and it's going to be that Romney is a liar.
Is that wanted to do from here on out.
Well I think any time you hear me at -- me express different -- had the day before.
I think it's important for voters and now I think that this week that it will we be talking -- Mitt Romney -- Loose interpretation of the facts regardless of what people -- the president's performance.
And in his own and you have to take my words for his own ad campaign watch back some -- what Ronnie said about.
Cut at covering people with preexisting conditions -- -- health care plan.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- it was -- -- -- -- -- wasn't the president line though when he repeatedly said that Mitt Romney was gonna raise taxes five trillion dollars seventy Connors come out and and you said essentially that you know it won't be near five -- it's a one that.
Line well but now it's not a -- because Mitt Romney but won't say how what loopholes is gonna close he wants say he -- he is.
He refuses to really walk through the -- even Paul Ryan I'm in this network said.
I don't have time to deal with that in a very derisive way and voters want the facts they don't want.
Stand they don't want.
You know just hubris they want someone who is really gonna -- show up with the -- really walk them through the -- and you haven't seen that Ronnie do it.
You see and take a variety of different positions -- Paul Ryan -- either.
Okay you're following the talking points -- right from that -- and Ryanair big fat liars.
Two million do you think that's effective -- -- -- that could backfire on this president who.
One of the great things he's got going for -- -- he's -- so likable now they go.
You don't -- gutter ball that could take its all.
Well.
You know the -- -- campaign really gone through sort of seven stages of grief after this terrible debate performance haven't they we started with denial than they went to the blame game blaming everyone from the city of Denver and -- altitudes you Robert -- own boss John former boss John Kerry.
And -- finally settled on calling Mitt Romney a big liar like you said.
It's easy to understand why they're doing it you know the president's approval rating is down six points in the Gallup -- is below 50% after the debate.
On the but.
What we're seeing what he's on the Sunday shows yesterday from senior Obama administration officials as what we saw from the president Wednesday a campaign -- a candidate with nothing to say the American people.
And it's so ironic because this is a president who as you mentioned.
You know hope and change in 2008 now the campaign slogan -- forward.
You would think they'd be desperate to move forward after a disastrous debate performance like that but no they've been in neutral or even -- for five days harping on it okay because they don't have a positive message.
She margin Enron in his -- and I.
-- it's not just people on the right like community who are giving the president grief over his appearance Bill -- over the weekend on his -- said.
Remember Bill Maher gave a million dollars did the president super -- said.
It looked like Barack Obama took my million and spent it all on the -- of course he's just joking but nonetheless.
Everybody's befuddled by his performance.
Yeah I think it -- -- -- a lot of people on the left and the writer using pretty extreme language and you're seeing -- you know a bit of a -- for running in the polls I think it's important run for a couple things first name Ronnie has been neck and favorable all year it's gonna take more than one debate to change at all year to you have more people optimistic about the direction of the country.
Then you've seen since early in 2009 you have good jobs numbers and you have instead a Republican Party that.
Is rooting for bad news literally -- for bad news and suspicious when there's good news.
And -- you have a Republican candidate -- Whether it's Mitt -- off the cuff comments -- Paul -- off the cuff comments really dismiss a huge portion of the electorate.
As victims who think they deserve and -- that is such extreme language and -- continues talk about that -- would give you the final word.
Absolutely you know.
I again don't take my words for the validity of these claims the Obama campaign's making take Stephanie Cutter says she mentioned she was at the last of the talking points about a minute on CNN before she got back -- -- had to admit that her claims distant hold water.
On the and you know -- to get serious for a second.
The American people are looking for someone who's gonna focus on substantial issues -- -- on Mitt Romney you got in the debate we didn't see -- Obama did that.
And in the days sense when you know you -- -- Mitt Romney for taking a victory lap and trying to focus in the debate he hasn't done that he's moved on he's talked about his plan.
To -- take home pay for the middle class -- -- create millions of jobs and today he's getting a major foreign policy address so we got one candidate -- and subs at Eric's focusing on substance and the other nothing to say.
And of course the next stop will be Joseph Biden vs Paul Ryan Thursday morning -- it's going to be good Emilia and Marjorie.
Thank you both for joining us today from Washington and -- they care far.
