A lot of new reaction today to the first and only vice presidential debate of this campaign season.

Vice president Joseph Biden and congressman Paul -- slugging it out last night in Kentucky.

Giving millions of Americans the kind of fiery face off they really didn't get to see when the presidential contender squared off.

President Obama took a lot of criticism for what was widely dubbed a lackluster performance in Denver last week.

So did his chief surrogate stop the bleeding.

But -- Monica Crowley Fox News contributor and radio talk show host Jimmy organs he also a Fox News contributor and a former political advisor to democratic senator Frank Lautenberg.

-- New Jersey.

Bleeding stopped -- Well yeah I don't think so I mean I think -- Biden had to do and I think you did effectively is essentially he went out and convince the democratic base.

Democrats were -- including myself after last week's bad performance at present Obama.

That he was gonna stand up and fight and he was gonna fight so it -- -- the American people what the democratic party's values -- And they specifically what does these two men Obama Biden we're gonna do.

To ensure that people understood where they're priorities -- to that very effectively and I think the democratic base -- what we needed to hear to get energized.

You might be very surprised to know that you agree with Karl Rove because this morning Karl Rove was saying that Biden had to appeal to the democratic base and sort of re -- their enthusiasm.

Paul Ryan had two appealed to sort of middle America may be undecided voters.

And therein lies the rub because some Biden was tasked last night with energizing or trying to reenergize a very dispirited liberal base of Julius write about -- and I think he accomplished that to some degree.

But the question is at what cost because his behavior last night was so surreal and so rude and so inappropriate.

That it may -- -- the cost of turning off an alienating really key swing voters namely.

Women and independents and see writers that I will say this you -- you have this CBS poll that was done right after the debate of undecided voters people would not made up their minds which is a very small small proportion of the electorate.

By 52 to 35 to me by fifty to 32% margin.

Those voters believe that Joseph Biden won that debate and that's something that's very easy to stand up there about four or five other snap polls that showed the exact not undecided -- -- undecided -- CNN and some other CNN had its totality of the voters that problem is -- this gets to what we're talking about about what Biden's mission was last night.

If you are the incumbent party and you're still worried about your base with three weeks to go before the general election you weren't really tough shape I'm not sure that he was worried about debates I think the base was you just said that was an NFL I think the majority.

-- energizing the base it was in getting the base.

To whom exactly support -- the Woodward of the based dropping off or not coming -- to vote the base was dispirited because they thought President Obama.

I thought President Obama did not come out and defend -- -- a full throated way.

What the base wanted him to defend including myself doesn't mean the basis staying home doesn't -- the -- and voting.

They were dispirited well today the -- is no -- dispirited because it would Joseph Biden did I will say however.

The -- Obama's got to come out there next week next Tuesday and seal the deal because if he doesn't everything that Joseph Biden did yesterday's not gonna matter much more.

When one congressman Ryan said that the vice president the sitting vice president a guy who's been in the senate for 36 years I know you're under a lot of direct do arresting -- some ground here but.

It seemed like a pretty effective.

Put down to two that.

Roll that he -- yeah.

-- -- -- yet know exactly and I think the American people understand that any -- if you're the sitting out party.

And you control the White House senior vice president is still at this late date trying to rally your base you got some problems and that's why it freed up Paul Ryan.

To speak to those independent voters to speak to women to speak to undecideds.

And make his message very good there except -- Paul Ryan at once again never came through at any specifics you know I can pretend right now they have a five point plan to seek to Mars but -- to give -- specifics as to -- and do that.

You're not gonna believe the -- all the nuts he did not answer at all what deductions they're gonna plug -- they're gonna replace obamacare to cover and a short people.

What they're gonna do that Medicare voucher layup off his skidded up his skidded off his gated because these people can't give specifics that they do I don't know the total number but yeah.

Loves Julie -- -- projection because coming from the left coming from Obama who is not detail what he would do in the second serve this is about you know I don't know I think he was hope and she let me know what -- you -- you want you -- he has a flurry of record.

-- -- -- about Guatemala and Republican side ticket both the governor Romney and Paul Bryant put out.

Very specific plans pro growth economic policies.

A regulatory reform entitlement reform it's hard to do it in -- two minute segment during a debate.

But they have put it out where is the White House has put I don't know I wanna I wanna loophole little close right now to Stevie Wonder they were close to plug his budget gap why haven't they detailed one thing I -- talk about -- -- -- -- one.

A lot of talk about one thing one specific thing that I found actually pretty disturbing lesson that I mean.

You know you can talk about the vice president mugging his way through.

You know certain parts of the debate but when they were talking about a Libya and and for Americans who died there this is and what Joseph Biden looked like watch.

This.

And got the issue would be a tragedy in of itself.

But unfortunately it's indicative of a broader problem and that is what we're watching on our TV screens as the unraveling of the Obama foreign policy.

Which is making a more marked more chaotic and us less safe.

I mean we just had an ambassador and three other Americans killed in -- gallium and the vice president goes into that grin is that is that appropriate Q well.

You know probably grin was directed towards deaths Olivia and -- was directed at this absurd statement by cholera -- That this administration hasn't done anything to go after terrorism it's this administration got some -- -- line is this administration that has taken -- god knows how many terrorist drones.

Is this administration has gone after terrorist everytime they've seen them.

Not somebody who's out I want -- -- daughter alive -- the -- invade a country -- bin Laden wasn't.

With somebody who went out there and quietly without bluster went in there had to steel the resolve to get -- -- bin Laden.

Hello Paul Ryan is sitting there as a congressman and has the temerity to say this president hasn't done anything to get -- specifically what I don't know what it was saying.

They're little and -- -- -- that our policy in Libya is unraveling right luck.

First of all when the president is arguing that somehow he's decimated al-Qaeda -- all the evidence is now to the contrary is is a blatant -- -- said.

But secondly look that the part of the problem for Biden in the way he carried himself he didn't just smile and giggle at that inappropriate moment about Libya which is turning into huge scandal for this administration.

But he was laughing about Iran -- -- nuclear weapon he was laughing through tax policy -- every single major challenge she was asked about he had this inappropriate smirk or laughter and what that tells you is he's either so one -- -- -- -- that he should not be one heartbeat away from the presidency or.

He and his boss are fundamentally -- serious about the true nature of the challenges facing America Monica Crowley and -- -- against you good discussion as always thank.
