Well after last night spirited debate between the vice presidential nominees both sides are working hard to characterize that showdown.
We have back to back reaction now from the two campaigns first -- -- the national Press Secretary for Obama for America.
Let's try to stay on topic cannot avoid the topic talking points van.
What did you think we'll vice president Biden's best moment last night.
Well I think he had a lot of strong once I think what the take away from last night was was that he exposed the extreme risk that Romney -- economics would pose.
But for the middle class -- press congressman Ryan to reassure the middle class that their taxes wouldn't go up.
If they pass at five trillion dollar tax cut for the wealthiest Americans.
-- he couldn't do it.
Congress and Ryan when pressed about his defense spending proposal.
Flat out lied about it the fact is -- proposed a two trillion dollar increase in defense spending beyond the level that the Pentagon has asked for which would explode the deficit.
And he wouldn't commit to the 2014 timetable.
To bring our troops home from Afghanistan and so I think time and time again the vice president -- out the choice for the middle class in this election.
And was very effective in doing so good time and time again -- -- on the vice president interrupted interjected.
You know laughed bill -- that kind of thing was that a appropriate first of all wasn't intentional.
Well Republicans.
Like to -- happy warriors and I think that's what we saw from the vice president.
Last night he called out the brazen attempt by the Romney Ryan campaign.
To try to rewrite their ticket in their positions.
In the final thirty days of the race suddenly they don't know anything about the five trillion dollar tax cuts for the wealthiest.
That they -- suddenly they talk like that cover.
People who have pre existing conditions under their health care plan would we know that if you're between jobs or between plants you wouldn't be covered.
Under their plan so the vice president is authentic.
What you see is what you get he didn't bring a bunch of canned political talking points like congressman Ryan did.
And I think you reach a lot of Americans in doing -- all right there was this moment when Vice President Biden was asked about taxes and he said this.
OK on -- taxes if your ticket is elected.
Who will pay more in taxes.
Who will pay -- and -- starting with Vice President Biden for two -- middle class will pay less than people making a million dollars -- war began to contribute slightly more let me give you want concrete example.
The continuation of the bush tax cuts we are arguing that the bush tax cuts for the wealthy should be allowed to expire.
All of the bush tax cuts for the wealthy 800 million billion dollars of that goes to people making -- minimum million dollars.
Middle of a million dollars isn't that incorrect.
Well he was he was providing an example of who we'd asked to do more to pay their fair share we do believe that millionaires should pay their fair share.
In order to reduce the deficit of humility but you literature -- -- thousand dollars or less residents staggered.
Isn't it true that the president's tax plan calls for increasing taxes on those.
Couples making over 250000 dollars.
He he was -- -- providing an example of who -- asked to pay their fair share order reduce the deficit.
If you make 250000.
Dollars or less your taxes won't go up and that's a contrast with.
Governor Romney congressman Ryan who charged the average middle class family with kids 2000 dollars and ordered to pay for their tax cut.
For the wealthiest Americans all right I wanna play a quick clip -- from my colleague Chris Wallace and get your reaction.
Think I have watched almost every presidential and vice presidential debates is the first four.
Kennedy Nixon debates in 1960 and thinking back over the last few minutes.
I don't believe that I have ever seen a debate in which one participant was is openly disrespectful.
Of the other.
As Biden was the Paul Ryan tonight and that's what it was -- -- about the -- the smiles the head shaking the mugging.
It was openly.
-- it contemptuous and disrespectful.
-- Chris Wallace has been in Washington a long time as he said covered a lot of these races.
What's your response.
-- you know governor Romney has spent the entire campaign saying that he'd stand up to China.
And apparently now governor -- congress and Ryan can't handle a little bit of laughing and smiling.
That seems preposterous to me.
All right -- the campaign secretary I'm sort of Press Secretary for the Obama for America campaign Ben thank you very much.
Thanks for have a.
