The big event Thursday night -- one night only showdown between the candidates for vice president.

An event highly anticipated by the political press.

The first question out of the gate was about the controversy surrounding the terror attacks on the US consulate in Ben Ghazi Libya.

This.

-- got the issue would be a tragedy in of itself.

But unfortunately it's indicative of a broader problem and that is what we're watching on our TV screens as the unraveling of the Obama foreign policy.

Which is making a more marked more chaotic and us less safe.

We were told there would do what want more security do we did not know they want -- more security and by the way.

At the time we were told exactly we said exactly what the intelligence community told us that they -- That was the assessment and as the intelligence -- be changed your view that we may be clear they changed their view that's why said we will get to the bottom of this.

Well considering the lack of media attention that the -- that via an embassy attacks generally -- we've talked about it on this program before where you surprised that that was the first question coming out of the game I was prime.

And then then I would then -- Thought what it was via a pretty good debate in pretty good is a case of moderating -- Martha Raddatz and then she failed to make the point that.

They knew that night of September 11 and it was a terrorist attack not -- them in their view was wanting to ask about the bad guys attack and then not to follow the state which had missed the day before mr.

vice president we saw that that there's a part was getting real time video feed from the site.

And she -- Biden get away with just saying oh well you know.

The intelligence community told us that and -- no pressing follow -- whatsoever.

I was shocked well one wonders how many votes the Joseph Biden go Obama ticket will be getting from the intelligence community after that essentially threw them under the bus right and the State Department and they also threw under the -- I mean it was interesting when the vice president used the word.

Week who exactly was we did not know.

Add that this was going on because the State Department according to the Thursday here hearing on capitol -- they knew they had.

Patrick Kennedy the undersecretary of management say we -- turned down their request for additional security so what is he talking -- so where -- the media on these questions on I mean these are some some some coal found questions about the safety of our facilities.

Well let me just say -- -- profoundly disagree with what you just heard I mean the fact is that what we know is that the Director of National Intelligence mr.

James clapper said that was the assessment that time that was given to top administration officials Patrick Kennedy at the State Department -- -- this -- that.

That was the assessment that we made at the time.

So we know this not only that we know that David Petraeus.

Went before committing to and said that very same thing.

But you know it in terms of this question I was surprised that it was the first question and I was surprised a little bit by Martha Raddatz the style because it struck me is more of an interview.

Then -- debate.

But it was to my mind -- -- action to what happened when Jim -- last time because I think here she was trying to assert herself more rather than simply lay back and let the.

All throw the ball up in the -- we're gonna talk more a little bit later in the hour about the Libya's situation but but let's focus bigger picture now on the debate itself.

It was pretty clear that President Obama lost the first debate to Mitt Romney.

How did Vice President Biden.

Frankly I thought if he had handled Sarah Palin this way for years ago.

He would have been called a misogynist a stalker at all kinds of other things I mean this was shot he was he was -- As my mother used to say to eat in erupted over and over and over again by one count over eighty times even Martha Raddatz in erupted.

Paul -- on several occasions.

I just thought it was one of the worst examples of personal misbehavior.

I have ever seen at this level it was disgusting.

You know the fact that we're talking about smirk and smiles this tells you.

That Joseph Biden won that debate and I think you look up you know up but I mean that's what it's -- -- are you going to despair and I went to the spin room there in and and where was -- and didn't look that up what can.

-- back the other hoping is sponsored by Anheuser-Busch -- But I wanted to spare room and you could tell right away the Democrats -- and that's and the Republicans were talking about this marks the smiles in making jokes about this -- His teeth -- this is an old technique you and I both know this when somebody's getting ready to make a point.

You -- -- them to try to throw them off and and to try to get the audience not to listen to what was being said Jim I mean Dan McLaughlin red state -- -- that that -- the -- the hecklers.

Defense and that was what -- doing Biden was heckling.

Brian thank you Ryan a little bit and I -- -- about -- but I think that.

-- yeah -- I think I am -- how else filing that it.

But -- everything is and Raddatz but let's be clear about this -- -- was playing with the Biden team -- that debate she was letting.

Biden in a -- Ryan she was an -- Ryan herself and what Bryant had to do at some point -- -- -- -- to -- -- awareness to listen.

If Martha if you're gonna play on Biden's -- and you can't -- that might reconsider bring him next to her now and will we will get into one.

We will focus on -- in in the next block but did Joseph Biden with his 36 years experience in the senate was built up.

As the experienced debater that was the the mean going into this in the press what about.

Ryan what was his how was he cast I think each side is happy with the outcome because each side felt that their team their guy did pretty well.

And I think that Ryan demonstrated.

An amazing ability to field a huge number of varying questions he is not foreign policy expert and yet he raised.

Enormously.

Important questions about.

The Obama foreign policy he surprised a lot of people so apart from that.

The concentration on by consumer -- green are as -- over -- -- John said.

-- -- -- His twelfth.

Apart -- that I think that Ryan really intense press people well.

-- that the expectations were very -- for Joseph Biden there was a pew poll done this week that said in fact.

People didn't expect much of -- and his favorability was lower than Paul -- what this was about.

John was I think an introduction of Paul Ryan to the American people and this person people really got to look at him.

And got a sense of his capability and I think that's why Republicans are pleased that I think Paul Ryan came across -- -- capable young man but I don't think he.

Match the command in the presence.

That Joseph Biden had especially after another the sense of defeat for President Obama last week because he wasn't president didn't bring up higher in the fight.

Joseph Biden brought fire and fight in -- -- And speaking of that first debate it was interesting how the media treated this.

Before the Denver debate to have which everybody acknowledges President Obama lost.

The vice presidential debates that were really meaningless they didn't count for anything nobody paid much attention to them and after Obama lost all of a sudden the media ratcheted about that this was this was big stuff I agree -- it had more moment because if if Biden have lost that Kentucky debate.

I think the momentum that the Romney ticket picked up would have been overwhelming.

As as it stands now this weekend what we're seeing -- I think they're both sides -- -- it feel like you know what.

This is the bit of these VP debate will still be forgotten let's move on.
