The action last night we're getting some new reaction this morning from the Obama campaign.
On what they're calling a strong performance from the president last night.
And it appears that even senior campaign advisor Robert begins.
I thought it many times during the evening.
I thought Mitt Romney appeared to.
Mitt Romney appeared to be debating Candy Crowley -- not really debating Barack Obama.
Former New Hampshire governor John Sununu is a senior advisor to Mitt Romney's campaign also served as White House chief of staff of course under president.
Bush governor good welcome to have you here this morning thank you.
Happy Wednesday nice to be here good to see if so what do you make of that Robert Gibbs says sometimes a -- like the governor was going -- it would have candy.
Well -- Robert was a little bit ecstatic that more than an empty -- showed up for his side this time.
But Candy Crowley you have my good friend Candy Crowley stuck our nose in a couple of times where she shouldn't she cut Mitt Romney off twice.
When he really deserved another round of answering.
And short change them a few minutes and then tried to cover up.
-- Barack Obama is very dishonest statement gun on.
When he decided that terrorism was the problem involved in that Libyan tragedy so candy stuck our nose into it in the wrong place and she admitted afterwards.
That that her.
On the fly fact checking was wrong that Mitt Romney was mainly right so the governor did have to handle both of them but he did handle them both well.
And I think you put the facts on the table that.
The economy is the big issue and in terms of foreign policy.
It's not just national security and foreign policy associated with Libya but it now -- become a character issue.
In terms of the White House is dishonest in handling.
-- -- that it matters that much in the big picture but it was pretty feisty up there last night did do you think these two gentlemen -- you know at the -- -- -- Don't like each other very much.
Well I think it's more than that I think.
Not only governor Romney but a lot of -- American population.
Is really upset at what they see as -- strategy of dishonesty.
On issues coming out of the Obama's side.
The president was caught twice last night on energy.
Giving absolutely ridiculously false statements on.
An oil production and gas production he said that he increased permits on on oil and gas on federal lands.
When in fact they would decreased 14% on oil 11% on gas -- over his.
Four years they've gone down almost forty and 50%.
On each one of those -- it just was.
I think reprehensible that he's trying to convey a very different energy policy.
That he's had he's still the coal industry and tried to sound like a friend of -- last night.
-- Charles Krauthammer was said doing analysis after of course last night and he said that he felt that governor Romney was strong when he was on sort of the big picture.
But he faulted -- for the the few times when he kind of got down to semantics and you know words in challenging the president directly on that stage you think that was a good -- Well look I governor Romney's personality is not such that he likes to.
To take people on on on issues like when they're being dishonest.
And and I I noticed that each time.
When he had to deal with that detail he doesn't like being -- confrontational.
As some other folks.
So why did the president had a little advantage with his impersonation of Joseph Biden last night.
But I thought the president is rudeness is gonna turn off a lot of independent voters really.
I do I'd -- I think when you look at the polling on that.
You know -- had a a focus group out there.
And a lot of folks not only independent voters went for Romney but a lot of old Obama folks switch to Romney and my personal feeling.
Is is that really the the president's style.
You might have energized the base but I think it alienated the independence.
What is this -- -- conversation go from here -- I mean you know within it there's an investigation going on as we all know.
I don't think anybody expects we're gonna hear anything out of that investigation before this election the don't.
Now I I I think what you're going to hear though is is a lot of folks.
That the president's tried to throw under the bus -- intelligence community.
Even even for secretary of state Clinton was a good soldier and and and instead it just waiting to be thrown under the bus kind of crawled under the bus.
Taking the rap for the president I think you're going to see some grumbling coming out of those groups between now and the end of the election so that people understand really.
How terrible this administration has handled.
This very critical issue the president's foreign policy has fallen apart.
He he was going to brag that he had broken the back of terrorism and what happened in Libya really puts the lie -- that.
His his foreign policy has been revealed.
In the context of the emperor has no clothes.
She -- look -- -- hate Toronto on the finally did you think it -- governor Romney answered that question well enough because he got criticized afterwards.
For not being comprehensive enough and his answer to that and do you think you'll have a different.
Broader answer perhaps next time around.
Well look the answer is in public debt and maybe governor Romney sort of put all the details on the table and a concise way but the answers -- the public.
Ambassador rice went out and and hit five shows saying it was the video the president goes to the UN.
And says video six times two weeks after the event and the president's trying last night to suggest to us.
That the day after he had made it clear it was about terrorism act.
Look that's just dishonest he got caught making it dishonest statements time and and that's gonna hurt him in the long run and actually their -- saying thank you very much.
