Getting higher marks for his more aggressive debate performance this time around -- Giving mr.
Obama slight advantage over all others say governor Romney held his ground last night.
How much would it matter and will -- give the president any real momentum heading into the third base but only twenty days ago till we go to the polls.
A piece in the National Journal says quote.
Bottom line Obama and Romney scored points while turning off independent voters with their point scoring.
Democratic and Republican partisans will find reason to celebrate the debate but it likely did nothing to reshape the closely fought race.
Charlie hurt is a columnist with The Washington Times not the author of that quote.
But Charlie -- keen watcher of all things political what do you think did this race take a major change as a result of last night.
I think that's probably one thing everyone can agree upon is that it was -- politically speaking last night was basically -- draw.
Which is I think very bad news for President Obama.
That it was something weird kind of happened.
At that last debate where President Obama did so badly.
It's almost like Romney and Obama sort of switched positions.
And Romney is almost running as an income as the incumbent now and all he has to do is not screw up anything.
And since Romney I I don't think had any major gaffe although a lot of people are trying to to suggested that he did have a major gaffe of the Libya thing I don't agree with that.
And you know so that you're short of a major gaffe.
I think the momentum continues to go and Romney's direction and all those undecideds that remain at the end of the day whatever the pool of undecideds are.
The majority of them are gonna break for for Romney so in a perverse way for Obama that that to kind of helps Mitt Romney I believe.
Mitt Romney pointed out that the president hasn't kept a lot of promises that he made as a candidate in 2080 promised us lower deficits that hasn't happened he promises.
Lower unemployment that hasn't happened.
The president tried to answer that when he talked about the promises he says he's kept it and you wrote about I want to play that clip.
And then get your take.
-- is the commitments I've made.
And those that I have been able to keep.
Its not a lack of trying and we're gonna get it done in -- second term.
A you found something humorous almost in that clip and this is comical the president is sitting there saying that.
All of the prime that the promises I made up -- And then -- -- immediately after that he says.
But but but -- but but those that I have and it wasn't for lack of trying to think either you captain -- you didn't keep them and then it goes on to say.
That that and the ones that I didn't other in the second term.
It it it it anyone who's sort of focuses on that and it kind of goes over your head because he says -- kind of quickly.
And and it sounds like it make sense but he really is sort of saying three different things that are all sort of mutually exclusive.
And and it but it really does -- in my mind sort of undercuts its credibility especially since you know he he now again is making promises.
That that you know when we're kind of wary of of the promises.
That he made -- years ago well and and again his traditional bogey -- these days is the Republican congress but as was pointed out last night he had a super majority democratic congress for the first two years of his term.
Yeah an and that to me is the most devastating.
A testament -- to his -- his first four years is the fact that.
In the first two years they had everything they could raise taxes they could have done all these things that they now want to do and they didn't do a fact that.
And and that along with the fact that you know that that that.
-- Obama is running on a record that is definable.
And all he's.
You know you're able to do now is sort of make new promises just like you did four years ago in saying that no it's going to be different and and they're always I thought how telling -- was when.
Was when Mitt Romney looked in the audience is that I think you know.
Meeting you know I think you know what the economy is like.
It's that I think you know better meaning that you can.
He -- the people do better than what what what Obama was trying to spin Charlie hurt from The Washington Times Charley thanks.
