But that's not what you've done in the last four years.
That's a problem.
In the last four years you cut permits and licenses on federal land in federal waters in half not true governor around so how much should you cannot throw by Hamachi to come by that.
Governor we're actually produced more oil you know how much -- got licenses or permits on federal land -- federal waters.
That's -- it looked like when two guys who really don't like each other were forced to spend ninety minutes in the squared circle or I guess just the circle circle duking it out.
With a prize of four years in the white house on the line and this is power play and I and Chris -- -- And what you saw there was the most clear example.
Of a debate that was contentious that was rough and tough where you saw -- Mitt Romney and Barack Obama go toe to toe.
For ninety minutes it was a sight to behold it whether you like boxing or politics there was a little something of both in that.
We are going to break this all down today we are going to give you exactly what you want Internet.
Other than videos of cats and things like that -- we will focus on what happened in the debate we will do that.
We will talk about what it means for the election going forward we will talk about young voters.
We will have power points it's an embarrassment of digital -- today.
And the greatest treasures in our -- Today -- the fact that we one Williams and Steve -- with us.
Juan we should point out is a Fox News political analyst he's a columnist.
You can read his stuff -- Fox News com you can read his stuff but -- Latino.
Yeah and the hill and that will of course obviously.
Where he just goes -- and spends most of his day taunting AB -- when he's over there -- that they'll be just just -- -- sure it's -- it's kind of cool.
And Steve Hayes Stephen F a ST UN and that he's a senior writer for the weekly standard and you see him most every day announcement -- -- right there.
-- verdict we'll see if that's true.
-- so here's here's here's the thing.
Deep holes the -- snap polls that CBS and CNN took immediately thereafter a judge.
The president -- -- won by small margins.
But then found that Romney won on internals that he won on leadership that he won on the economy that he wants to basically he won on the inside.
But like boxing judges the voters at -- said in this fight President Obama.
Got the better of Romney in those ninety minutes let's start at 30000 feet with you one what's the take away.
I don't trust instant polls.
He won't let but I would say their whole show -- Sorry but but I will say this that in terms of a narrative coming out of -- night and I think my colleagues Stephen Hayes predicted this.
But the fact that Obama bounce back from what was widely judged to be a poor performance in Denver in the first debate has been the story of the day.
And it's carried him now I think in terms of momentum forward that.
If there was bleeding and I believe that he'd gotten -- if not.
Gash in the first debate in terms of the politics of -- you can see this in some of the polls.
Especially the Gallup poll came out just yesterday -- night before yesterday.
That he was starting to have trouble with women voters.
And some independents and I think that based on yesterday's performance and the shift in the -- that we saw.
This morning that I would imagine some of that leaving little stopped -- that we -- back to basically a tight race.
Steve I route today and in the etched on the Internet today in my underwear how can we get that doesn't understand questions please.
That's the simplest answer even though you don't follow me on Twitter is likely to do you now.
-- do absolutely power -- for a long time power play regrets the year after.
He regrets the error made in case but the what I wrote today that you can get by following me -- -- -- Walt.
-- Twitter Reno's.
That Obama survives but doesn't advance.
He got through.
Low expectations because of his bad performance the last time he got through he demonstrated that he can fight but at the same time he didn't do anything to take.
The wind out of Romney's -- Well I'm -- -- I am here because I agree with both -- -- Think this is a load up it and making ends -- -- -- here yeah.
-- this did you agree with -- and then I -- you look at I think that's I mean I think that's doomed as a reason we -- right because it's true because Iraq right.
Look at how we got into this was this was -- -- The the Obama team before -- set this up as as a command performance this training is getting this president like you've never seen him before this going to be it wasn't that an old fashioned but -- yet it wasn't that it is plainly wasn't that.
But I think he did much better -- RTC just -- more engaged was much more in -- I thought -- -- there -- times where he.
Who risked coming across a little bit snippy but you know I think that is the stated that Joseph Biden said in the vice presidential debate makes us President Obama look like this is true gentlemen this is.
Like having rat pilgrims were -- it makes -- sound like they're like a lot there in yellow bands like they're an acoustical jam.
I don't know that I didn't even know what do you reckon I knew what he's done OK I Fredricka you're going to quality events -- now and I'm.
These engines I think rat -- -- -- band poison I think that's just what I'm saying -- yeah you know.
I don't get it around and check out out of this you are is one of -- is there compilation it's very good.
It is and it's with UT's one -- rabbits feet.
Yeah it's a pretty big deal.
-- I took for the president.
He to Steve's point we came out he was a little hot you could tell that basically.
Axelrod probably been hitting.
That newspaper for twenty minutes beforehand to get him really ready that first kid that the president talking to college student.
Looked like he was that he was going to be in need of -- wardrobe change.
After that because -- president was so mad and talking to him.
So it looked like in the first half that Romney.
Was on his way to a narrow win but then in the second half the president -- town he found a way to talk and -- -- he cooled off a little bit and seemed that way.
Does the president having a better second half do you think relate to why the holes might show him the winner better to close strong -- win the polls.
Yeah I mean I haven't thought of it in those terms in terms of breaking into hands like a football game.
I thought overall the president had a presence he brought the fight this time I thought that it was evident right at the start -- and I use your parameters.
They had an exchange over energy policy I believe I think you played steadily that was the hot that was Dallas bid and they -- -- right.
At each other you know it looked at that point several people around with that look like they're gonna fight -- -- I mean they were right at each other so.
Com I thought that was pretty I didn't see the president -- in that exchange looked to my two you know stallions right there so I was Australians but I will say this.
I'll say this -- in.
I'll -- in in arguing for the president's performance yesterday last night.
I would say that he went after army on some key points that I think we're damaging to run.
And they could set up Romney -- For the future now I think -- set up to go on the foreign policy thing after what the Wall Street Journal this morning described as his worst moment in debate.
Not being fully exploiting the Libyan issue.
I'm glad -- that you mention that because we would like to show you additional video Internet likes to see moving pictures.
And here is one let's hear from the Candy Crowley.
You said in the Rose Garden the day after the attack it was an act of terror.
It was not a spontaneous demonstration is that what you're saying please -- government.
Wanna make sure we get that for the record because it took the president fourteen days before he called the attack and -- -- an act of terror get the.
The transfer it if he -- in in facts are so let me let me if they call an active here and -- -- candidate elected.
-- an active terror it did as well.
Take it it is well take that two weeks or so for the whole idea of their being a -- out there about this tape.
But to come out -- -- this that it.
Look like when Candy Crowley Crowley Crowley -- to do we -- -- ruling on that I think -- crew I'm going with correlating now that Candy Crowley.
Punctured Mitt Romney she took out -- giant needle and did -- punctured his balloon to the real time fact checked.
And then I want to show you the full screen -- what she told Anderson Cooper who is a daytime talk show host who also has a PM show.
The cable news network said this I think actually she said this I think actually you know because right after that I didn't.
I did it turns around me and I think you're totally correct.
That they spent two weeks telling us that this was about the tape in the riots outside and then got to consulate which -- work.
So he was right in the main I think I just picked the wrong war.
Was it cool for her to do -- -- fact check on Mitt Romney midstream.
-- -- -- -- Especially when you went when she didn't get it right I mean this was the problem that's the kind of argument I would expect to hear from David Axelrod -- not from the moderator of the debate into and in fact.
It's very who is very open to debate what the president did say on September 12 -- he didn't use he.
But he would not use it specifically describing the Ben -- episode.
What the what did the Obama campaign would say is the whole speech was about and -- so of course that's what.
And it was included as an insight about everything and if you read the transcript which we did one.
We did we can read here yeah.
I'm is that we were not just another pretty fast but if you read the transcript the president was including in his description of acts of terror.
The sweep of history there are eleven years and I left -- yes and everything bad that ever happened these are all acts of terror.
But it that was a very different thing wasn't it.
-- saying this was a terrorist attack.
-- -- the context -- Steve was saying is open to interpretation but the fact is that he used the word terror.
In a speech that was prompted by the attack him and guys that.
The thing is that I thought that that was not the heart -- a little bit damaged and I thought the Hart so the damage was then that the president.
In what is likely now thought to have been -- -- Ploy maybe a little then said listen I am deeply offended these are my people I'm responsible you and I don't think that you should be playing politics here and I think that was the power of the moment I think that for maybe for us at this table and they have very savvy Internet audience it's about.
Fact check in this in that.
And we'll get into the car.
-- is about the growth and that I think it's I think it's absolutely about both -- mean the problem for the president is that.
-- -- pretend I think it fundamentally the argument he was making is -- misleading and even if you can be reading a different interpretations about what the words in the September 12 speech.
He was trying to give the impression that he had been saying all along that this was terrorism.
That is plainly untrue you remember when Jay Carney went out on September 19 more than a week later.
Instead in the back of the plane in a press gaggle.
This we consider this a terrorist attack -- the press with mark -- who has -- -- cooler market in the for the New York Times.
Went to institute to file his pool report is that the pool with a group reporters traveling with the president they they sort of translate for the rest the white -- -- -- and put out.
And he -- -- -- pool report that said.
The news out of the gaggle is that the White House has finally called this this terrorist attack.
And so I'm including the transcripts here and putting that top because it's so significant.
The White House has finally called -- here so for the president last night to go out and I think pretend.
That he has been saying all along well of course this was attacked -- -- that right away is.
Okay we're going to take a quick break because you need to.
Basically get some composure back in -- -- after this law excellence is that has been rained down upon him.
Take a -- if they can handle have a sip of water do something to get yourself.
Steadied because when we come back we're going to look ahead.
So we've litigated that is the debate here but let's look ahead and talk about what's going to happen next.
How it's going to happen and what the closing arguments not just in this debate -- in the campaign are going to be we'll get your -- It's going to just.
W I just hope you're prepared to be thoroughly -- -- stick around.
I think you know better.
I think you know that these last four years have meant so good is the president just described.
And that you don't feel like you're confident for the next four years will be much better either.
I can tell you that if you -- elect President Obama you know what you're gonna get.
You're gonna get a repeat -- the last four years we just can't afford four more years like the last four years.
-- and and that is part of what's at stake in the selection there's a fundamentally different vision about how we move our country forward.
I believe governor -- is a good man.
Loved his family.
Cares about a space.
But I also believe it when he said -- behind closed doors that.
Of the country considered themselves victims.
Who refuse personal responsibility.
Think about who -- was talking about.
-- essential -- the closing arguments that take away points for Mitt Romney and President Obama in their debate and Hempstead New York.
At Hofstra University.
And this is powered by welcome back so.
What's the take away the debate was a draw slight edge for the president which is how it's mostly seems to be judged inside itself.
What are the what does what is the larger portent.
It's worth the remaining three weeks of the presidential election what's gonna happen in these twenty days.
Steve -- and Juan Williams are.
And we will always stipulates -- clear ride a patriotic -- and -- and bushy tailed and -- -- well I've seen you bush here.
I'm I'm not gonna sit here and -- yeah.
When I was an -- -- and -- And that to me it is okay.
All right -- -- thinking of active in the -- getting an early wind and fire.
Did you ever imagine that is all I'm saying -- So here's the -- Did the president threw the kitchen sink at Mitt Romney finally Democrats were cheered and enthusiastic.
As he got 47%.
-- got Bain Capital he got all the stuff he got all basically he reiterated everything that he said an attack ads for six months and he brought it in person to Mitt Romney.
Don't -- he still seems to be alive peace so they're very much alive.
-- Romney on the other hand went back to his argument we can't afford four more years.
What happens in the next three weeks.
In the next three weeks oh my -- we're gonna go just.
I'm so focused on what happens in the next debate and I think I was trying to hit it this earlier my thought is that if I'm advising Mitt Romney.
Going into a foreign policy debate I am coaching him on how to better pursue the -- story's -- in the hope that he can make some -- there and try to drive away some independents who might think you know.
Republicans typically are better on foreign policy and national security and maybe -- Jewish -- -- I'm concerned about the relations with Israel.
And Mitt Romney's gonna make the case that.
Barack Obama president Obama's policy in the Middle East is on -- if you are not good and it could lead to war in the -- and that's that's where the exploit.
He didn't -- motive would be if I'm coaching Romney going into -- If you were Jewish -- you would be the most interest and voter demographic in America wouldn't have to say yeah there's an error an effort went very well look if you're a woman venues and have -- all.
I don't know it well and lives who live outside of Tampa right through that that's a little light in them -- and a African American woman Jewish Jewish outside of Tampa you would be he would be like -- demographic can shouting over me absolute you're being controversial undecided yeah.
It's an excited and and -- -- viewer are.
Well obviously because where you know it's the most powerful name in Internet politics from 1130 to twelve so Steve were you the question is.
Has lived it looked a month ago like maybe the president who didn't have this very sustained attack on Romney it finally kill this character to such -- -- people say they -- -- -- different way to -- in your -- What happens now for Iraqis alive now can he survive for these next three weeks with a -- I think when I.
As soon -- why the first day it was so important the entire premise of the Obama campaign was to tee up Mitt Romney as the bad guy he's done all of these things in private -- he's disregarded that or he's.
He's shuttered the company said Eugene -- nice profits he cheats on his tag all -- just horrible human being and the whole thing was a set up.
Took closing argument that they were gonna prosecute the last six weeks with basically said if he's willing to do this.
Two people in his private life his business dealings he's willing to do to you.
And at the problem is when they saw him when voters sign in that first debate that's something that -- -- doesn't seem so.
What he's saying seems reasonable to me and I think the question is and coming out of last night.
How -- independent voters see this President Obama -- -- -- things that we want and I've talked about a bunch is this question of electability and so it's -- sometimes it's over discussed but it's also important to meet President Obama in the latest Washington Post ABC poll which wasn't democratic plus nine sample.
Had -- it had eight plus thirty advantage.
On Mitt Romney.
Electability and it is the case that every single presidential.
Election since 1988 the candidate judge warm likable.
By the electorate has won so like ability matters did the president by being so tough and aggressive last night.
He wrote any of that electability advantage.
We don't really -- like a bill.
Ian favorability want are two different things we did the last few different ways likable it's like do you like this person -- favorable as -- this is a very short and witnessed it.
Does he not what the hell you are you not repulsed by this human being move will you tolerate this person.
Romney has pulled into polling.
-- essentially statistical tie with the president.
On this favorability right yeah like ability right now Canada.
He's never going to be as likable as Barack Obama -- it because it's just that's just -- it -- but -- favorability.
That I have a favorable impression of this human being.
He is basically a tie with a slight Romney lead now.
What happens to the president if he continues with the kill Romney -- if he continues to take brick bats at Mitt Romney.
Is there a danger that eventually he'd be content that run he lives in the president as -- traded his own.
-- Haven't seen any evidence that's thus far and believe me they've been tough on Romney in the and it's I mean I don't think they've held back so I haven't seen that yet.
And what's coming in the next three weeks that you were sort of presented him.
Chris is I think a ton of ads but mostly Romney and pro Romney super pac ads attacking Obama I think the ratio was 21.
Now I don't know what kind of adds the Obama team has stacked up.
I would guess they're more of these character attacks and they could go with things like you know especially aiming towards women contraception business.
The pell grants business from yesterday were Romney turned out dimes and now he's for pell grants and he's been always opposed to go so.
I just didn't know that so they know things like that mistake if they can make him -- to be flip flop burdens them with designs and does that damage.
Obama hadn't seen -- so far reflect negatively on the presidents.
Like ability to what we've missed I think for the present what I expected to see more of classless frankly.
Was president Obama's vision for his second term and where is -- what is he doing beyond saying.
Hey look we did we did this for the past four years it could have been a lot worse than it is.
If we do more -- that it'll get better quicker it's just not to -- it's hard for me to imagine an independent voters sitting at home judging these two candidates.
Singing about President Obama thinking that that is that closing argument like that's that the clincher.
It's just hard for me to imagine that and and and unless and until he's able to articulate.
That positive vision which I think he'll have a hard time doing because basically I think it does come back to more of the same but he's in a little bit of -- box there it will be interesting to see what.
The Obama can't.
And adventurous -- backside of the polls have shown increasingly is that voters are less interested in what happened in the last four years of more considering what's gonna happen the next four years now.
That cuts both ways because the strength the best of Mitt Romney last night was Mitt Romney going through the litany of things that have failed on the Obama walked over the last four years.
But I think -- -- to see from both these men.
Tell me what's -- tell me something good.
Call me -- well maybe they want that but that a good thing happen and I -- -- That's on -- I'm really quickly.
You know one of the things about -- we did last night that was better that he doesn't usually do is when he was going through that.
Obama record but it ended but -- firstly get comparisons to Ronald Reagan right and the Reagan recovery which -- I was Smart and he ended on a very optimistic note.
So then that Romney hasn't done enough and I think doing that makes that.
The critique even more compelling.
He looked like he might break in 20 beautiful for spacious.
The I believe in America known to have has been no -- gentleman.
You are Smart legal friendly helpful human beings and bushy -- and bushy tail I'll give you -- -- -- edit -- if we get that -- definitely yeah.
Thank you thank you thank you gentlemen we thank you very much -- -- gave a quick break but when we come back we'll talk about young voters.
And we will talk about some -- excellence of another kind that is awaiting you later in the day so brace yourself.
And stick around.
-- I -- president -- -- -- -- -- all these people they've been -- to -- -- -- -- -- your -- -- any investments I have over the last eight years have been managed by a blind trust.
And I understand they do include investments outside the United States including eight in Chinese companies Mr.
President if you look at your pension -- have you looked at your pension I've got to say.
-- -- have you looked at your pension.
You know I I don't look Democrats is not as big as the -- good well I think the biggest.
The biggest of an eye socket that -- limited piece of advice have to look at your pension you also investments in Chinese companies -- also investments outside the United States.
You also have investments to a -- -- trust where.
And that was just back down that was Mitt Romney going after the president's backside over.
President Obama is known investments that includes some stuff that may look foreign and you could maybe turn into an attack.
Dad that kind of thing in this power play.
And welcome back so.
They're candidates both tried at various points to deflect with humor.
And both tried to show good natured -- but there was a lot of teeth -- hearing over all not as much -- last week.
Truth lies Ponce de -- the Vice President Biden but it was a contentious.
Vary very testy debate.
So how's that going to play with the youth vote.
Because you know young voters like to show but at the same time they probably don't like to see all that scenery chewing.
You know who probably knows he producing probably.
You know that Peter -- is by a friend and colleague here at fox news bureau in Washington.
And I hope also that you know that Peter.
Will this afternoon.
On new Internet tell the tale of what young voters -- to -- welcome -- Thank you.
-- -- okay what are you gonna do what time and what are you going to do it.
And our five minutes so just that your or just sit tight just don't -- -- -- -- -- -- really have to go.
Do you saying yes but I know it's interesting because we've done two of these.
Post debate shows so far one after the first presidential one after the vice presidential.
And you would expect the young people just so only be -- Tracinda and the singers are the proceeding you know that showmanship of it hot but they're really.
From all we -- we resent some foxnews.com reporters out.
Throughout the country to watch parties there really intercity and the substance you know -- of policy -- at everybody gets lost in the weeds.
They want to know about jobs they want to know about health care.
A lot of interest surprisingly among twenty somethings with Social Security.
Because you know they get -- the once were lucky enough to get a job they -- the money's coming out of their paycheck but they don't know if there ever going to.
-- -- -- So we will hear more about all that later on today.
It is he's 77%.
Hipper than me you will enjoy it at 130 very much when he breaks down -- talks about the youth vote so you should stick graph that you should also stick around the fact.
That it noon Gregg Jarrett is on the hunt in for Jonathan Hunt you'd like that.
But before you get to that in the -- -- -- -- here is another little bit of your entree and some power points.
Our points today are fat wreck back -- not fact checked back to -- Now apparently number one.
Fact checking and replace reporting in way too many occasion it is not a substitute -- journalist subjective judgment about the truth or falsity of the statements came in the place.
But actual reporting it's become a crutch that too many reporters -- -- and they usually just end up going into the attack ads of one came -- the other.
Answer on fire for Pinocchio is it's lost it's significance.
And we saw last night.
These shark jumping moment for fact checking -- Candy Crowley.
Tried to do -- real time fact check on Mitt Romney in that debate it ended poorly for -- it ended poorly for the experience it was bad all around now.
Second point here is we should stipulate.
Quote I was trying to do the right thing she was trying to clarify the -- -- the conversation could advance.
But fact checking has so permeated the brains of the political press -- -- couldn't resist making that value judgment on something that was in no way a clear call.
-- may have been in the right place but boy did she blow -- OK so here's your third point and this is the most important when it is time for a new system on presidential debates.
Newt Gingrich made out of when the Republican nomination but he was right about this it's time to get moderator out of the debate process.
And it's time to let these dudes go toe to toe at a time keeper agree on what the rules aren't advanced.
But have them duke it out amongst themselves not adding in I'm sorry to all the anchors that would lose their jobs -- -- but have them manage their own affairs and deal with themselves the candidates not inject -- objective opinions.
And involvement of a moderator.
That's all power -- -- today okay.
So those are your -- enjoy those say or think about them and now as we like to do every day we want to leave you with the word from our French us.
Ready today to one corner robot.
And the other cold fish.
For Obama the bars rather low compared -- the first debate only has to do -- string a few sentences together.
-- lead to make eye contact with a single -- human.
And showed the slightest animation -- face I think he can do that until we had a really wasn't he might even win an occasional round.
