Thanks -- -- Brian Ross Perot was -- of a successful third party candidates ever run for president garnering nearly 20% of popular vote 1992.

And critics say that cost President Bush reelection.

So if President Obama governor Romney a dead heat could -- for third party candidates swing this year's race not being talked about a lot right now.

Herb London.

Is with the Hudson Institute -- -- former third party candidate for governor of new York and he's my -- good -- you -- pleasure to be with -- it's fascinating topic because we haven't really been discussing -- there aren't going to be third party candidates on the ballot right.

That's correct Gary Johnson is obviously gonna run a libertarian line -- -- Ralph Nader on the Green Line.

There's no doubt that third parties could play a role in this presidential race.

When you decided to run for governor -- State of New York back in 1990 why did you decide to run -- -- intellectually I'm a registered Republican Iran as a as a conservative in large part because the Republican Party.

Five minutes to midnight decided that they want someone who had more wealth than I did.

I'm thinking that he would put a lot of money into the campaign and obviously money is a very important factor in what happens in any race.

When I did run I did to -- -- judge generates something on the order of 22 and a half percent of the vote.

More votes than any third party -- in American history up until that point.

In a gubernatorial race so Governor Cuomo ends up winning that's right Democrat ends up winning so many people say hey you gave the election to the Democrat there is no question there are many Republicans who believe that I betrayed the party.

That I should -- stayed on the Republican line and the supported the Republican candidate.

And indeed that might very well have been the case that Republicans could conceivably have -- had I've been the nominee how does that factor into now fast forward to 2012 with somebody like Gary Johnson.

And he can he really hand the election I guess he would hand the election to Obama because -- be more likely for Romney voters to vote for I think it's more likely the Romney voters -- Republican voters are more inclined to support libertarian candidate.

Keep in mind that -- -- happened in American elections before in 1912 Teddy Roosevelt of course gave the election to Woodrow Wilson.

Hadn't -- that Bruce will not participated in that race it is quite conceivable that William Howard Taft would've won the race.

Very interesting -- herb London.

Are you -- president emeritus salaries so I'm a former president of the hotels and that president emeritus of the Hudson institute and a former independent candidate great to see it's well great pleasure to be with you.
