This is a Fox News alert and there are major development -- a Libya were to military sources saying that last month's attack.

Might have been part of a broader effort to drive the US out of eastern Libya.

-- Jonah Goldberg editor at large for national review Fox News contributor here to react to all this -- good morning TU.

Are on the Catherine Herridge is reporting this what do you make of that.

-- it doesn't surprise me that much we knew that there were a lot of bad actors in Libya.

That were flying in -- it's provided more foreign fighters in the Iraq War than almost any other country.

There are a lot of bad guys there.

And I I think it's sort of flies in the face of the party line that we got particularly in earnest after the Democratic Convention.

That al-Qaeda and -- had a related groups are on their heels -- fading away.

The implication was that the war on terrorism is sort of over -- the cleanup operation.

And I I don't think that's the actual reality of things in tennis this -- is a nice election story.

Yes and I think -- tell -- -- will.

And I think that's in some ways what -- color doesn't go below the White House's response -- been Ghazi attack is that after all of these attacks.

They always what they want to do is they want to isolate the event make it sound like it's not part of a larger pattern.

They don't want anyone to connect any dots and then maybe the facts come out later saying it really was a terrorist attack.

Be the uproar is already died down -- -- I didn't on those watching your show this morning that we still haven't declared the Fort Hood attack a terrorist attack November.

Rage in November of 2009.

Workplace shooting this -- back to Libya.

Yet there are hundreds of incidents reported security incidents in the six straight months leading up to this.

If you knew about that you should have boosted security.

Right.

-- now I think that that was the question that was asked of the debate that neither of them really -- that well.

From guy from Nassau County.

That why why weren't they prepared for this and I think that the answer lies somewhere in the realm of the out between ideology and incompetence I think that.

And and politics is that.

They want that story line about -- terror they want to that we saw on the testimony before congress that they really want to move this to a less dramatic footing.

Make it seem as if things had calmed down which is a political imperative.

That should come but should not override what the security imperatives are I don't think there's any good argument.

For why they weren't better prepared and -- you're not really understand why Stephens was at that.

Poorly guarded compound on 9/11 -- and lying about.

Lot of -- to be filled in -- here is the question from that voted the other -- the debate you just mentioned who was it who denied enhance security in Libya and why.

That question has not been answered.

I'd bet -- -- comes up Monday night.

Yeah I think back questioned and who was it who actually said.

Blame the video.

Let's stick with blaming the -- those -- the two questions there at the heart of this controversy one goes.

The actual terrorist attack and the other one goes to what looks like -- cover up if you get a clear answer on those homes everything else will fall to play.

-- is this is what was said last night in part and Jon Stewart show President Obama said every piece of information that we got as we got it.

We laid it out for the American people -- -- it out to the American people can you argue against that.

But hey how well it it's expected to -- for me to see it as anything other -- -- -- let's just say an untruth.

I've Barack Obama he -- this passive phrase about terrorist attacks and he wants to claim he used.

Had to describe whether the Libya attack but then the next week.

We saw the the secretary of the U -- they met through the UN the White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

Saying fairly unequivocally.

That this wasn't terrorism this was about a video.

And we know now that the intelligence internals of the administration said that that simply wasn't true and they stayed on that Susan Rice could have said.

We have conflicting reports and one -- one possibility it was the video and other possibilities of -- that she didn't do that she ruled out effectively.

I terrorist -- -- Garnett.

It could come back to -- the points you made gentlemen because you off your revision -- this could be important perhaps.

The White House.

Internally is trying not to give al-Qaeda credit for a paddling group's credit.

And that's why they stay away from that it is -- an acceptable explanation.

But if it I think they understand what Roger -- rationale.

It's a politically scandalous explanation.

I think a lot of people including non ideologues in conservatives and liberals and independents think they're really tired of the war on terror and I think that you can get to a situation.

Where you just you know above all you have -- the hammer every problem looks like a -- if you really really want this thing to be over you're gonna constantly look for evidence that it is.

Particularly when it's your political advantage.

And the modus operandi for last four years of this administration has always been to spin every terrorist attack.

As if there was isolated incident a lone -- alone -- -- and senseless violence.

Senseless violence.

And and I think this is sort of like a game of musical chairs the music stopped right before the election when they tried this tactic one time too many and it didn't work out that it was -- that aren't.

I encourage you and all our viewers to check out the show later tonight Brett -- hosts our program special report investigates death and -- and Ben -- it airs at 10 o'clock eastern time.
