Right now President Obama and governor Romney are looking ahead to their final debate so is the moderator Bob Schieffer of CBS but after the last debate everyone is wondering.
How will Schieffer handled this run for -- He is certainly aware of the uproar caused by Candy Crowley of CNN who chose to jump into the second debate -- her own controversy.
To let me let me -- it call an active here and allowed a candidate -- it.
-- an active terror outfit did as well.
Take it -- as well take that two weeks or so for the whole idea of their being a ride it out there about this tape but to come out your.
Read this that.
Well joining us now on.
Kirsten Powers is a columnist for the Daily Beast both are Fox News contributors.
The president really didn't call it an act of terror he made mention of acts of terror but most people have.
Read that transcript or or heard the replay of the Rose Garden sound -- they can decide for themselves.
Whether he said it or whether he didn't but Judy to you first.
Does this affect Bob Schieffer is performance I mean does he.
Jumping -- both feet this debate in the same way that not Candy Crowley does or does he leave very much alone.
Well I think that he's going to be very aware of the criticism John.
-- both the first moderator.
Who was describes Jim -- -- a potted plant.
And the last moderator the second moderator -- the third actually.
-- Candy Crowley who was it.
She designated herself as the kind of instant fact checker in chief and turned out to be wrong so he's got to.
Really chart a course in between these two.
But she first one of the most experienced foreign policy experts when it comes to thinkers that I know out.
And I think he's not only going to be wearing a suit of armor he's going to be very very careful about how he phrases the questions.
Very very hard to appear -- and -- Hawkins.
Yeah well it's it's not his first rodeo cheers and he's done a couple of these presidential debates the full.
Yeah I I totally agree with with what -- sad that.
That he that he's -- look at these past two debates to see what the out in outcry has banned.
And hopefully reach some sort of middle ground I actually liked in the and I like Jim -- suppressed because I like to see the candidates really go at each other.
And when Candy Crowley did let them do that in the debate I'd like that aspect and actually don't have that much of an issue with Candy Crowley other than.
Her sort of taking sides in a disagreement she should've just let it play out.
Between the two of that but I think it's great as -- highlighted that you have somebody has a foreign policy expert who's going to be able to hopefully.
Let them have the argument that they started to have on Libya and really let it play out.
And -- -- it seemed Judith that that you felt -- Crowley really had her thumb on the scale.
On the president's behalf enough it was clear that she did I mean it had that impact if you look at the first half of the debate before her intervention.
Governor Romney is really making great gains rhetorically and when she was confident he was on solid ground with the economy.
Then she intervenes.
And he certainly was off his game he had been challenged on a factual issue he didn't have the transcript in front of him.
And for the rest of the debate he was really more heads -- -- And President Obama was more assertive.
-- even fair minded person who looks at what happened there has to say that she influenced the way in which a lot of people perceived.
The Victor in that today.
Does this -- did -- go ahead Pearson and another.
I didn't say I think I'm fair minded person can't help but I I look I I don't I don't totally buy that our game and I know that's one that's been put put been put forth.
But what Mitt Romney should have been able to push back at what she said I mean he should have been able to say.
Even if the president president can't refer to acts of terror in the transcript.
He should just turn of the president and said so are you saying it was an act of terror I don't understand why he was so flustered by this he's so thrown off by what she did he did say that and and the president didn't seem to have an answer the president says plea for -- -- -- -- hesitation went.
But he should demand an answer he should've kept going she you shouldn't be -- to be thrown off by by a moderator and I don't think the facts.
You know I don't understand -- I don't think he would if.
Then -- -- if it hadn't have been on foreign policy an area where he doesn't feel.
The kind of confidence that he exhibits on economic issues what about the format town hall format real quickly is is it going to be the -- Used in future debates do you think that.
Well I'm somebody of great pictures to I liked it I liked the back and forth and I liked them standing up -- -- yeah I doubt there's always a town hall and I can't imagine that will stop having them and and I think that they -- they are effective I prefer to watch them go against each other but it's sort of standard campaign -- let's see what Bob Schieffer brings to the table.
Thanks thanks thank you Judy Miller -- and.
