In Syria could have becoming to a halt after the government they -- agreed to a temporary cease fire.

We're just a couple of hours into what's supposed to be a four day truce marking the Muslim holiday the festival of speed.

That follows the annual pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

Still the government vows to respond if rebel fighters attack and while the religious festival may prove it may provide some -- momentary peace.

Hours ahead of the -- there were new reports of bloodshed in several cities including the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Activist playing government troops are on the attack and they say nobody's taking the cease fire seriously.

Jonathan Hunt has been covering this force for days now -- he's live with -- -- hard to believe that cease fire has much of a chance of holding up -- Yeah very hard to believe when you look at the conditions laid down by the Syrian US army command -- the president -- -- that they have effectively said yes.

We will although this cease fire box.

We reserve the right to respond to any rebel attacks all bombings.

We reserve the right to respond to any terrorist groups is they put it.

Trying to re -- normal reinforce their positions.

We reserve the right to respond if we see any foreign fighters trying to be smuggled across -- boulders on the other side of this of the many of the rebel groups have said.

They reserve the right to respond if they feel a sense forces have fired first other rebel groups have simply dismiss a cease fire out of hand already -- it is the US backing this effort well yes in the sense that clearly they hope -- and hold for this minimal period of four days but equally clearly.

Then not very confident about it listen.

So we -- putting forward that we would expect that they will now keep the word -- put on the street but we have to see you.

As we have seen over the past year that.

Syrian regime in particular is good -- making promises must -- -- falling from.

Now there is no precise timeline as far as where a -- when the gums are supposed to fall silent so how do you have a cease fire unless everybody knows the precise minute that they're supposed to top five stop firing.

Also worth noting there are no international monitors to observe this cease fire.

And no consequences.

For anybody who breaks it -- -- Jonathan Hunt thank you -- vote.
