Obama -- avenue campaign -- to go along with his plan for the economy if he should win a second term it's something we've heard very little love until this week.
The president's new -- economic patriotism.
It's the title of a glossy brochure outlining the president's plan for jobs and middle class security or so he says.
AB Stoddard is an associate editor and columnist at the hill newspaper she joins us now -- what is economic patriotism.
Well I really define and in the brochure of any lists a lot of policies proposals that he's already.
-- put out in eight years and -- house and and most of it is stuff you've heard before he talks about how -- -- has to do their share.
A fair share and a fair shake.
Building the economy from the middle out not the top down rich -- contributing more.
And I'm trying to revive the middle class by reviving.
Helping small business.
-- explaining again the benefits of Obama care.
And tax fairness and all and and and stuff that we've really heard about there's nothing new.
In the brochure he's given -- economic patriotism this -- name in this new kind of theme.
But he did so with less than -- weeks to go before Election Day was odd timing.
And it it seems an -- purpose and this is something that he could have done along time ago.
If he didn't want -- actually sell something and well is it because -- -- was pressing him during the campaign saying you know what's your agenda for a second term.
It absolutely was Democrats were getting very nervous about the fact that they thought that Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney's charge that the president is trying to just.
Hold on to power without any real agenda are plans for a second term he hasn't told the public what he would do with a second term.
-- was really sticking and resonating and they were getting nervous and really.
-- just put enough pressure on the campaign that they needed to come out with something he get a hold up at rallies.
And say is a plan and I as I said it's not -- mean everyone usually says I have planned go to my web saying this isn't.
This isn't something new but -- I argue that he could have done -- a long time ago he was gonna just recycle retreads we've all heard about economic patriotism is the only new.
Part about it it's the slogan that they stumbled into and again -- -- up that was powerful they should have thought of that along time ago.
And speaking of a long time ago I was reminded of a democratic primary in the pre Internet era.
11 candidate was challenging the other to come up with some ideas take a look.
I hear your new ideas I'm reminded of that had.
Where's the -- -- -- -- If you and let's keep going and you know its.
He's gonna tell you -- -- -- a good.
Walter Mondale -- Gary Hart in 1984.
Years saying -- that this glossy brochure app has a lot of slick -- to it but not a lot of substance.
That's right you know she loves Barbara have Mitt Romney doesn't have any details and -- plans and misusing nine point plan and everything else.
But he actually held this this glossy up the other day -- -- -- like Mitt Romney.
It shows you you know specifics but it really doesn't if you look it -- and you can look it up on their campaign web site.
There's a lot of nice pictures of him with a lot of different Americans.
All everyone smiling and he's talking about fairness but there's these little yellow -- very says what he's gonna -- their bullets they're not specifics they're not new detailed plans.
And we've seen them before so it actually really isn't.
If -- there's not a lot of its problem is what I said in my column it's it's it's a very pretty picture and it's a nice glossy but there's nothing really in there.
-- in terms of specifics AB Stoddard is associate editor of the hill newspaper.
