Thanks very much we all -- Millions of dollars but my next guest is so determined to to Washington change things he's putting his personal fortune at -- Tom Smith is running for US senate in Pennsylvania.
The Bob Casey and he's my guest this morning good morning Teamsters.
Good morning Gretchen it's good to be with you thank you how did you become successful in America.
Well Gretchen I.
Started my own coal mining business in the eighties and through faith hard work and perseverance we were able to get that first company up and running turned -- two and three.
And at the end of 2010.
We were producing about a 100000 tons of coal month.
Gretchen I lived the American dream.
So now you want to give that back why do you feel it's so important you've spent millions of dollars of your own money to run against the incumbent.
Bob Casey -- -- so important for you to do this.
-- Gretchen.
I've been very blessed -- -- life I have six daughters and a son.
And have nine grandchildren so far and I'm the youngest just got here about a month ago and when that little -- was born he was born 51000.
Dollars in -- So I decided that.
I wanted to run -- the United States senator we can see if we can change some things.
We've got to get this economy roaring so we have jobs we've got to get this deficit spending and other good for walls off.
And we got to start paying down this national better our children and their children.
-- not have the opportunities that I had and that's why I'm running for the United States senate.
Well some people might be startled to look at where you are in the polls.
We've never really won and you never you've never run for statewide office but look at this Bob Casey 48% Tom Smith.
45%.
And Ed Rendell with the former governor of Pennsylvania and Democrat has said this.
Our voters are not nearly as reliable as Republican voters.
Regardless of the enthusiasm gap but especially in a year when there is the enthusiasm gap.
And maybe they figure -- to have collapses.
Republicans still turn out well and they sneak across the finish line and do a startling upset.
And I believe that that's a possibility.
We have Ed Rendell saying he believes the possibility you're gonna win this race when he sent back -- write down.
Why have every intention -- about winning this race but Pennsylvania a lot of people think is -- Blue States.
But in 2010.
Pennsylvania started turning paying we sense senator Pat Toomey the United States senate.
We've sent five new congressman.
To the United States house.
The governor's mansion is now in Republican hands the state house and senate both.
So it's been turning and even in the off year election 2011.
52 -- -- 67 counties in Pennsylvania are now in Republican hands in this momentum I think is just still going but.
Senator Bob Casey my opponent.
He's he's I'm sure a nice person but loses it's his voting record that is causing him his problem -- I mean it's not voting record is going to be hard to defend.
-- sorry we're out of time missed it but we did invite Bob Casey senator to be on the show and some decline.
A -- stick with you Tom Smith the elections just ten days away now we'll see what happens -- Pennsylvania thanks much.
Thank you have a great day.
