And welcome to FOX -- Sunday panel plus with Brit Hume Joseph Trippi Karl Rove and Juan Williams and we're gonna continue the discussion heated discussion we have.
During the broadcast.
About Libya the issues and also the coverage -- and I want that's where we finish -- So Brett.
Do you think they the lack of coverage of -- is just an honest difference of editorial opinion what do you think mrs.
The mainstream media carrying water for Barack Obama.
I think the effective it is to carry award for bronco I don't think if we're journalists who were and editors were looking historian.
Then well you know this and that big deal to him and if so.
Are conspiring.
Consciously did to help problem that's not -- blast works.
Classes insidious.
Stories it to affect someone you made -- -- -- as a sympathetic toward.
Just look different to me they don't look who's being don't look is important as they do and it's the person involved is somebody -- unsympathetic to.
And so you sort of -- -- national -- you feel like your heart is pure and the question always have to be asked.
If to ask yourself this question of -- would -- be covering this story this way.
If somebody from the other side were involved.
I don't think that question gets asked often enough I don't think I think journalists.
Don't do it in the result is what you get it.
-- I think part of this is.
How hard.
At the beginning the Republicans went after this is cover up the lies tonight and I I think that triggered a lot of people lot of it.
I think a lot of undecideds out there don't want to hear that right now they like the president of the United States they may not.
Agree with his foreign policy and some of the other things but I think that with with that it's seeming overreach in the beginning may have hurt the case.
As we move forward in the NIDs that isn't legitimate reason for a reporter or newspaper or television network not to cover story well.
No no I don't mean what I discovered a little holidays ever doing senate Republicans are right there were a legitimate reason I I agree that are my don't I really do believe and get to the to the facts in this thing and they're very complicated facts people donors -- Marines don't protect the embassies it's.
It's -- diplomatic security it's it's I mean there's all kinds of facts that people don't quite get -- -- talk about the public.
And I think a lot of reporters may have looked at this as a report initially as a Republican attack.
-- it and I think.
We'll see how that plays out but in the end it's the press.
And the opposition.
Challenging the administration asking for facts they will get them we'll find out what happened the problem is we're not gonna find out what happened.
Till after the election and that if I were the Republicans and I were Mitt Romney that would -- be trying to get it.
On burner as fast as possible to it -- -- gonna talk with you because you -- -- unique position amongst all of -- you've actually been in the White House and -- wanna.
You don't know what happened inside the Obama White House but you do know what.
The -- how what would've happened in the bush White House.
So 4 o'clock in the afternoon it's not the middle of the night 4 o'clock in the afternoon East Coast time 68 hours whatever it is later.
In in -- -- They start getting these emails that we're going into the situation room saying you know there's this attack going on I -- a jihadist group.
Does not get to the president.
Yes right really rapidly my my suspicion is of the chief duty officer in the sit room.
But for ten would have been in touch with the national security advisor and the chief of staff and I cannot imagine.
That an attack on our console with the ambassador in the facility would -- brunt of the president's attention and an end in a monitoring group and I would suspect that the evening.
The -- -- -- this had been in the administration where I worked there would have been.
Almost -- constant needing to have to have to monitor the situation in the sit room with some of the principal players there and sit in and secure video conference links.
To other -- officials -- the State Department and at the at the CIA and -- -- DOD and -- The question I know we get occupy a -- -- positive.
I'm -- that was -- but that doesn't matter that -- -- matters at that point is what do we protect -- people what are you doing to secure the facility and protect Americans so now we find out.
At least reportedly.
According to Fox News that there were requests made from CIA operatives on the ground for -- Does the president find out about I would -- Suspect that the director the the chief of staff -- the national security advisor would be immediately looped into those kind of that kind of information flow and yes the president would be -- I would be surprised to see the president.
Remain at the Oval Office or being the -- -- -- even if frequent contact in the end from the residents to the situation room what was going on.
And in instead we have a a much.
More dissident aloof and disengaged image.
Emerged in the dust foreign and -- look we're not getting all the facts that's the problem -- eight weeks after this nearly eight weeks after this and yet we do not have vital questions answered.
And I I agree with what -- said.
Blast is insidious is this would happen with any.
With the previous president on on on duty.
You can bet the New York Times we've been all over him the next day about.
About and -- an offer a campaign trip to day campaign trip to Nevada Colorado and you'd have very serious questions raised about what did the president know what was his engagement.
They -- they'd be all over the white house Press Secretary say.
Give us the tick tock of the president's engagement and involvement what -- -- have on the night of September 11 when did he know when did he note.
What did -- know what did he say included he talked to what was done and and and that's why this is also -- -- why it's so insidious in the -- -- Honestly say.
That and and you know I certainly have noted -- the president came into the Rose Garden he made that -- inning on a plane went to a fund raiser last I can you honestly say that George W.
Bush in the middle of a tight campaign well done is absolutely absolutely -- said you know what a I'm I'm I'm the commander in chief I -- response goes here's the ironic thing if you want to look at it from a political perspective.
What better thing than for the president a -- to be actually doing his job and say will all respect of the people in Nevada and Colorado I'll get back to gold and I'll get back to Las Vegas.
But that you know what I hope he'll let us deposit subject but I got a real job to do and look at and -- -- about the argument that.
You know if will be part of your argument as I've kept America safe and I have prevented attacks and al-Qaeda is on the run around sales.
You have to deal with the -- is there anyone American people are gonna are gonna are gonna sort this out of cells and they have 11 lesson I did the president's defense he did run the right thing by -- to the State Department this badly shook the foreign service badly shook our diplomatic -- and one of their own a bright star had been killed.
That was -- so that was the right thing to do.
But he canceled the presidential daily brief he there was no meeting on the -- on the twelfth the thirteenth.
Apparently not even to the fort until the fourteenth or maybe even the fifteenth -- with -- national security apparatus and say what do we know.
That and national intelligence apparatus what do we know is everybody in agreement are there disagreements what do we need to do -- -- -- -- need to do they'll get.
Well I think we're missing a lot here but the first thing -- -- -- missing obviously the context that there were literally attacks caused by the video.
In Egypt and other middle Eastern Conference and so initially americans'.
Intelligence response is through that.
-- -- That they're looking to see if this is now contagion is spreading to other places possibly also and got the second point is.
That Mitt Romney initially Johnson on that -- America's apologizing again.
And that's when he got -- these war politicizing the issue that it was well but they were -- quest for security at its security.
Turns out the requests for -- for added security the capital Tripoli not.
And I don't agree with I think that's the -- -- really got an athletic -- bodyguards of which would have gone with the -- sort of bodyguards of bodyguards would not.
They received a request for sixteen according to Charlene lamp and the sixteen would have been in Tripoli some of them might have gone with the ambassador not -- and whatnot and they would not -- and -- -- me again that darling.
But let me just finish -- -- -- Let me just say they would not.
In any case.
Been able to withstand the heavy grade of armaments.
That we're used by these terrorists they would not have been able to do it and finally the big argument is and I think it's the winners tonight -- general news what the what you were suggesting what is literally -- you know you're like hey if I got six visit to al-Qaeda has been that's why I'm gonna try and held here this.
Today.
I know but it certainly doesn't help the story -- the first -- let him first American ambassador Eric that is 33 years is assassinated no but that's that's about what happened in.
And again I didn't point any guys that point in the the point anyway is what happened in real time and was everything done.
To protect don't let the let like -- -- this is not about politics.
Everything's about -- -- I didn't say it wasn't about politics -- in the political you're not.
Two things that are -- true.
There are not that don't ring true the first is that the president actually had a good story to tell on this and it would've been.
I got Osama bin Laden we got two thirds of their leadership.
We have to get the other third this proves why we have to get the other third -- -- foreign policy is working.
And -- just as I promise you we get the guys who did it did the first note 9/11 -- we're gonna get these guys that all would have -- made sense but let weeks.
I I let me -- an alternative on how this -- really -- have gone down that the tape is gonna roll -- Ghana had.
Had.
Bomb the State Department and intelligence been probing our embassies in our consulates throughout the world saying are you seeing this videotape -- -- going on in Egypt and Yemen and other places -- happening there.
And you got that call five or six times during the day.
And then guys start coming over the fence that first contact may well have been.
-- Washington it's happening here in -- -- -- What -- what I've been getting out there was no protest.
-- that's not what those people may have reported initially on the first shots or goes first round higher data starts the whole way and it will weigh into the -- here yeah but that's what -- I really if you will you promise this scenario -- -- -- for fuel.
What you're not gonna get a chance this Romney yeah.
-- I had ever done Mitt Romney's much criticized comment related to Egypt.
Ben Ghazi was not part of what you've responding to and yet the media stayed on it for three days but he did say it in the context of the -- and -- -- which.
-- -- I don't think he's in another news conference and expect even the administration -- agreed with them on the yes I came out he had a good yeah.
I gotta say sure to criticizing the statement for me that secondly the president for one thing is you know is terrorism I -- I hit in the Rose Garden.
But today after that out on the road he didn't call -- terrorism.
It was only after that the middle -- that following week that they started saying that this is all this been godly thing was still part of the reaction to the video got killed in a sense they got it right before they started getting it wrong.
And they kept getting it wrong for days until the whole thing -- finally blown up by the official testifying on the hill so.
This is a very peculiar pattern they -- they must've known because they got it right it first what really happened there and then they started given some.
Some must spin about it that that blew up in their face so slow.
Got a is that there is not right I wouldn't solve those -- -- you know what everybody calls me darling I'm religious this is this that I thought was silent for the -- and I'll tell you like to thank our panel the check in with us throughout the -- week.
But for my Monday edition of Wallace unplugged I'm worn out you guys have worn me out and find it here at FOX News Sunday dot com lets you back here next on.
