President Obama and governor Romney you're spending most of the final days of this election season in swing states.

Polls show the race in many of those states is extremely close in fact it -- a dead heat in the latest poll out of Ohio.

So how does either side -- -- voters in the final days -- bounced we have got Sean Spicer communications director for the Republican National Committee and Brent Colbert vacations director for the Obama campaign gentlemen welcome to -- -- and -- tournament we're gonna -- first time.

-- on some of these polls obviously there's been a lot of momentum the Romney -- he's -- very excited about that but they -- states where he's never actually been in the -- places like Ohio.

Wisconsin how do you realistically think they'll be a last minute -- that benefits him.

Well if you look at a state like Ohio we started down 78 points a month ago -- we closer to 53 and as you said this morning instead even.

The trend line everything favors governor Romney going into it I think when you look at our ground game.

There's no question not only do we have the momentum but the group the work that's being done on the ground is what's gonna take -- over the top.

What you seen is that the Democrats like to put out -- about -- early vote and there's no question they do a better job early voting.

But they're not doing any is good of a job as he did in 2008.

It or be as a share -- -- registration in both those cases they're down were up.

-- -- -- in the final days on you've got a resource is but they are limited and he can't just blanket all fifty ads with states.

How do you make decisions now about what what states that you feel like -- either a lock for governor Romney or are unwinnable for hand and where you -- -- resources where things are looking more competitive.

Right were definitely ahead in Florida and North Carolina Virginia.

We're doing really well I did a pretty tight though I think we're we're alert warning right as I can really look internally what we we feel very good about the way things are moving in Virginia we feel very good about the way things -- -- Colorado.

We're at a point now where I think we're looking at expanding the map places like Minnesota Pennsylvania Michigan and I think Wisconsin's gonna come in force at the end.

All right and that is a tough one we saw a lot of upheaval there -- with Scott Walker do you think that.

What happened there with his -- recall after which he fought off successfully over the summer.

On sort of media organizes a grassroots.

The ground game that maybe didn't have they -- for Republicans in half.

Yeah it wasn't just the Scott Walker race -- we in the state senate and I recall and the Supreme Court race that we won all three of those.

And I think that the data and the motivation the enthusiasm the ground game that we put in place and is gonna help us take us to victory eight in November when it comes to the presidential race so.

We feel very good about the infrastructure that we have in the state.

The data that we have and the again when he goes to the absentee ballots in the early vote what we're seeing -- -- continued trend not only in.

In and states that I mentioned but a lot more of these continued the trend continues to go for governor Romney and all of the data.

All right let's talk about the fact we have hurricane CD now a storm that you know our meteorologists are saying.

It is gonna live up to the hype it's gonna be terrible and people could be without power for days and of course the primary concerns for the safety of individuals in the path of the storm.

But the fact is it could actually impacts -- some of their early voting.

-- hopefully power would be restored by a week from Tuesday that that's a real possibility.

And for now it's chasing the candidates away from the State's governor Romney was set to campaign in Virginia -- governor McDonnell there.

This Washington Post poll out this morning shows that the president up by four points there -- you know our polls on Friday showed that -- was up by two points in Virginia.

It's a very competitive state regardless of how you look at it how much does that hurt him not being able to campaign there in these final day.

-- you put it out the number one concern that we have this for the safety of all the people that are in that in the storm's path.

And second I think it that the -- scheduled to come on station sometime in the next 24 hours -- -- last two Wednesday.

I think that'll give us enough time.

For people to get back into to their homes in and get power back and then.

Plenty time to vote so it may have a small impact on early voting but I think that will be fine by Election Day.

Are we or frankly we hope so I mean that's that's again something that we really want to make sure that people are okay.

I wanna start because we're talking about the -- with something that Newt Gingrich said this morning he said the president is now canceling campaign events and taking in briefings on the hurricane.

Something he didn't do in the wake of -- got -- he headed off to a fund raiser in Las Vegas is that a fair criticism.

Look at it -- all due respect to speaker Gingrich.

I think that's a lack of understanding of these two situations and how they've played out obviously the president has a full time job on topic campaigning.

He's doing the things that he needs to do to make sure that were ready as a as a federal team to address the storm and support the states and its path.

The during the -- Gaza situation was off in regular briefings regular intelligence briefings like he always does so lucky -- have to balance being that the commander in chief.

With being the campaigner in -- and I think he's doing a good job.

I would ask you about the fact that I get the emails from the president's campaign anti CD a number of editorial endorsements that are rolling again -- 1 after another this morning but he -- that went to governor Ronnie.

The Des Moines Register has not endorsed a Republican in forty years they endorsed.

President Carter both times.

Al Gore a Michael to cock is to Don Carey having many many others along the way Democrats in the last forty years.

How do you react to the fact that in their estimation having talked extensively with both campaigns that governor Romney is the better pick for this country moving forward.

Sure look -- we learned one thing yesterday from the -- -- register endorsement.

It's at the editor of the de Moines register probably -- gonna vote for Barack Obama.

Luckily he only has one vote we're talking to voters all across the state of Iowa.

Getting back to a Sean was saying earlier obviously early though it's critical -- -- state like Iowa.

If you look over 30% of voters have already cast their votes and the reality is that those are trending better than they did for Obama in LA -- so we're comfortable where we are in the state.

We think we've got a lot of momentum there we know we have a very solid ground game and we're ready to move forward and really close the deal of his last nine days.

Well speaking of momentum -- to the polls a sense that first debate between the two contenders have been trending in favor of governor were governor Romney how do you stem that tide.

And represented you've got the momentum at this point with just nine days ago.

Well look if you look at staple after staple after staple.

You are seeing it the same thing with obviously at this point in the race which is a tight race that are race for the president remains tied her up and every single battleground state.

And you're hearing a lot of spin out of the Republican side look you just search on reference states like Minnesota.

I don't know what polls are looking at that every single poll we've seen has it's either 56 -- carried out so if you're using that kind of math teams like the Washington Redskins have.

-- a lot of games this year so I look they're gonna spin that's they're gonna try to push the map out but if you look at the real numbers -- what's going on on the ground what's going on an early vote.

I think it's clear that the president and a good spot.

We're gonna push hard for his last nine days to -- really close this thing out.

Do you think it's fair to Americans that what is happening in this campaign is that it is essentially coming down to a handful of states and that -- is there's a possibility as there is every time but.

More so this time around that there could be a difference between -- popular vote.

And Electoral College.

If the president is reelected under the circumstances.

-- at the mandates in his second term to go after the things he's promised to do.

Look this is the system that we have I think you can argue about it one way or the other but the reality is that.

These states in the states for this election will be decided in their states we feel very comfortable and I look we're we're we're fighting for every vote across the country.

Obvious you're gonna spend some more time as more resources in these key states.

But we we expect voters across the country to show up in support the president.

We're comfortable -- on Election Day we will want both the popular vote in the Electoral College because people understand what's at stake in -- -- what's at stake is moving this country forward and continuing to build our economic progress for taking a giant step backwards.

To the policies that put us in this economic mess in the first place that is a message that that plays in Mississippi the same way it plays and I can't Ohio so we're gonna keep talking to voters and we're excited to be out there -- fight for every vote.
