Let's get right to Jersey where senior correspondent Rick Leventhal rode out the night in pleasant beach New Jersey and -- before we get into the what you're seeing -- what you're saying.

-- my guess is you've you've you've ridden out thirty maybe forty hurricanes.

And it's my understanding that even Rick Leventhal -- scared last night.

You know that's true shepherd I like it briefly back.

Hurricane Hugo in Charleston, South Carolina in 1989 that was my most frightening experience -- -- hurricane until last night when our hotel was surrounded by water is never coming in.

Over the dude -- -- to do this home behind -- one of countless houses here at Point Pleasant that work.

Heavily damaged.

By sandy.

There was doing there 68 -- -- at least that is gone back up and down the code to do is -- normal or walking on.

There's a couple of feet of sand.

That used to be on the beach used to build make this big boat -- Edit all watched this why it took it counterpoint what did it cover the roads were making our way towards Ocean Avenue which is the main drag and -- put it.

If you look straight down the street you'll -- floodwaters that are still here.

A number of homes dozens if not hundreds are dealing with -- floodwaters here and if you look to the south.

You see how bad Ocean Avenue is there's -- Debris pieces of houses.

Emergency vehicles are struggling to make their way through that and I get -- quick look to the north shepherd because we had Bob brought every -- come through here earlier today.

A clearer path to that emergency vehicles and utility vehicles can make their way down here.

But the past stops right here at Washington avenue and what they got a lot of work ahead of -- You know Rick -- from decades of doing this the winds will scare you.

The water will kill you this this storm there was some wind.

But the wind did knock houses down roofs off in large numbers it was the storm surge that just moved things.

Yeah we were warned about that and then it happens so -- -- a matter of seconds then minutes the water was up just pummeling on the street and then rising very quickly we want to reach other -- -- -- the head of that block.

-- and it came down this street didn't white cat.

And at one point it was three to four feet high it would be golfing -- in this part of that we're right up on the third floor balcony right there on the corner.

Watching vehicle being surrounded by the flood -- Washing down this way and into the parking lot there with a giant shadow boat -- came here broke up an earlier question.

All -- of the greatest pieces of the boardwalk littering the sidewalk and littering the street -- -- -- -- -- out here.

It is absolutely incredible glad you and yours are safe and thanks so much for the great reporting last night.
