An Obama has somewhat backed off his claim of a one term proposition back in 2009.
Mr.
Obama said as president presidency depended.
On whether or not -- be able to turn the economy around in the first -- and -- yesterday.
The beginning that I work with more than one year -- one to our.
Go let's let's -- the middle class getting hammered Lama or the financial crisis.
Packages to compare his own words that's not what he said it back in 2009.
Listen to this.
A year from now I think people are gonna see that we're starting to make some progress -- There's still going to be some pain out there if I don't have this done in three years.
Then there's going to be a one term proposition.
That's -- question really for the American people is that as they head to the election booths and filling -- -- -- in the coming days.
Juan Williams joins me now Fox News political analyst Mary Katharine Ham is -- editor at large at higher dot com and a Fox News contributor welcome to both of you good morning.
-- -- -- -- -- -- You're right -- I I think that people have had to make that judgment Bill Clinton at the Democratic Convention spoke.
About how he didn't think any president.
Republican or Democrat could have pull the country out of that.
Deep economic recession in one term.
President Obama.
You know even in terms of the numbers they came out this morning strong job numbers is that.
The recovery should be faster and he's gonna have to do more in terms of producing those jobs.
You know Mary Kathryn -- we're looking at the scenes of both of them out there campaigning in the final days and they don't want that -- came out this morning -- can't help but think.
Most of this is an individual feeling you know doesn't really matter what the headline number is out there do you feel.
Like things are headed in the right direction do you feel comfortable with the next four years with either staying with this president.
Or do you want to give somebody else a shot that's what's gonna come down to right.
I think that's the bottom line and that's why often independents break toward the challenger and in the race because -- They -- undecided because they're not happy with the guy who's in office and that's Obama has to contend with these employment numbers.
Are the number one.
-- the the way people feel about the economy is being number one issue and he said himself.
You know this is a long term proposition if I don't get it done things at the same if not worse than they were then fewer people in the workforce about the same unemployment rate is when he said.
Those words and you know he's in the habit of making big.
Promises nonchalantly but I think four years is a pretty reasonable period of time to say.
Okay we can make a judgment on you now and that he had going form in the past that people were hesitant about Romney but since debate number one.
You've seen many many people go okay -- challenger.
Does not scare me I'm not I'm not as worried about that and he's.
Continually tried to scare people into being -- to cut him again.
But -- a look at Fox News poll that just came out and it -- people what the most important issues were for them.
And it's a big number when you -- together economic issues and fiscal issues the others just pale in comparison -- And I wonder now you know it I think about the panel on election night.
And when all is said and done for this you wonder what will be the things that people back -- and say well that was really what decided it you know that moment or that speech where that debate that turning point.
What do you think we're going to be talking about looking at.
Well I think that -- -- we'll talk about in large part is things like the jobs number today consumer confidence going up manufacturing I think people do have a sense.
That the economy is in the course of recovery although it's much slower than they would like and I think.
That overwhelming sense is quite critical Martha you know people also look back and it's also true when you look at the polls they still say.
That the depth of the economic recession was due -- the policies of President Bush and people say well when -- they gonna stop blaming bush and blame Obama.
Think they're up at our level at this point would be my question a lot and -- captivity can do this idea I just wonder I really think it goes back to that very.
Individual economic experience for every single voter out there yet.
I mean I think a lot of this is a gut feeling -- I'm on the trail in Ohio and I think one of the reasons that Obama is seeing people leave his camp is because.
This -- message of let's keep doing what we're doing it hasn't worked that well you're not feeling annualized they can't -- on the stump about a recovery because it hasn't been.
Anywhere near great.
And so clintons out there on the stump filling half a -- because he's not giving a very electrifying message I hear you saying like really things are gonna get better we swear to make us in the front -- I mean it it's.
It doesn't feel great.
Very interesting Mary Katharine -- thank you it's always great wealth let us.
Touching on coming days.
Governor Romney's closing.
