The New York City Marathon that is still scheduled to take place this Sunday.
Despite what's going on in the city joining us live from our Miami bureau is lacy -- that she is not only a New York City Marathon runner she's a marketing director.
Of the -- -- life and is also helping to raise awareness for a charity called death hole.
Death dash hope dot org on it's a foundation.
That we want you to explain a little bit what what you're trying to achieve and we'll get your personal story of of wire running on knowing what you're gonna do when you get here.
I look at.
Hi hell are you that.
So yes this -- won't be running in the New York marathon on Sunday despite all of that controversy this week our team is.
Flying up to bust then -- work -- flights were canceled twice this week taking a bus and arriving at a place and no power -- where we're still moving forward and it's mainly because of the charity that we've all committed to raise money for which -- -- -- and that as a charity that my sister started about ten years ago.
And I'm -- Pope innocent but go ahead.
I'm I'm sorry and I want I definitely want to get to death -- we wanna hear about it because so many people.
You know you you've been watching the coverage is well you know a lot of people.
-- there's a split decision here in New York some people -- -- -- -- -- then go on because New Yorkers are resilient and wanna see the city get back who wanna see things getting back to normal.
But the city still stop suffering they're still finding bodies.
In some sections of our -- and it's.
You know in the generators being used in Central Park a lot of people are upset.
So let me ask you first how you feel about participating.
In this marathon with what's going on your heart obviously -- in in the right place.
But how.
How is it is it conflicting tee you what's going on in your mind is you're down Miami watching this on the news knowing your coming here.
And knowing that the problems that you may face you wanted to be -- you think it should go forward.
-- -- -- -- -- of the race going forward I choose to focus on the positive things that the race brings to.
New York City and to so many people it brings hundreds of million -- of dollars into the city into small businesses and also serves as an enormous medium for.
Hundreds of charities and people that are you know using this race to raise money for so many causes.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I think it shows a New Yorkers are resiliency Obama really big supporter of their decision to move forward.
OK and let's talk about the foundation explain for people what your sister started.
Why she started it and what you hope to achieve -- I've I've been on your web site.
On and it sounds like a terrific organization let's let's talk about the good that this organization does.
-- -- so my sister's death in fact and she's a victim of them sexual assault so she started -- -- about ten years ago.
With seven other women she's one of the original co founders and it's a nonprofit organization.
And that its mission is and domestic and sexual violence against deaf woman.
And deaf children their empowerment education -- services.
And they help about 300 victims a year at this point -- -- -- celebrating a ten year anniversary and February -- It's an amazing highs.
She's always been a champion her entire life with everything she's faced and so.
I mean I just feel so lucky to be able to.
You know help for -- little bit that I can my putting together this marathon team.
Fester is just a start you can change your team the team of people that are flying to Boston to -- -- New York how many as a new team.
Their fight people and my team and it's it's a Great -- -- all were all close and connected.
So.
I'm running with my step sister more again it's her fourth full marathon.
I'm running with an old college friend Brandon Frye went to Virginia Tech together he actually -- for the Miami Dolphins -- actually broke the -- record at the Miami Dolphins -- 770 pound -- -- -- he.
The -- yeah.
So he's had a drop a lot of weight because sometimes it's it's difficult to carry a lot of muscle mass -- -- -- six miles and it's his first marathon.
I'm running with my co -- Monica they'll be her first full marathon and another really good friend Angela -- her first marathon and she's aiming to qualify for the Boston Marathon and finish under 330.
In her first year running she's one of South Florida's top -- so I -- -- really dynamic team.
That's very excited -- you guys don't have any fear of me with the flights being canceled I have friend who's just flying today her flight was canceled.
You don't -- -- fear that you're not going to be able to get in and get in place what about the hotels I heard that a lot of the hotels are turning marathon runners away.
In order to help this the storm victims -- -- -- wanna turn them out to go home to nothing.
Are you what what's the deal with your accommodations.
Well nothing stopping as -- did have two flights canceled this week so I decided to.
-- Going to Boston instead of risking going to New York so we're flying to Boston.
Tonight and then taking five hour bus into the city arriving in New York can't fight -- -- and my hotel is out of power.
So I'm saying with the friends and it's my first time doing that in you are -- but our hotels without power and it's just.
