-- Hi and welcome to fox highlights on foxnews.com.

Live so glad you're with us for this 2 PM hour here on lying -- good to see you my name is -- -- one of the reporters here in New York.

We have a lot of news to get to some uplifting.

Some still tragic as we continue to monitor the situation.

With the aftermath of hurricane sandy and that is actually where we're going to start to get an update on.

Some recovery efforts going on a Long Island we have in -- -- -- one of my very favorites joining us live here.

I had to give us -- a look at the scene of what's going on out there and I when you are you are live there with us so we want to get an update from you we -- issue Friday.

Okay and a clan will be joining us shortly of course as we know.

As we've all been following the developments of the aftermath of hurricane -- on Fox News and other channels you know that the recovery efforts are quite significant.

There are still quite a lot of problems.

-- to go through and in watching not only the people trying to get.

Back into their homes to see -- the -- is waiting for FEMA to show up.

It's just unbelievable heartbreaking.

I myself have family members out there.

Who we are still out of communication with because the cell phones are just not working there's no power to charge the cell phones and it's just really.

Really been very difficult for so many.

So right now we want to go to our Dallas bureau were gonna skip ahead.

On and talk to somebody very interesting who is joining us today Jane Lauder the founder Jane -- harvest ministries.

To speak with us today about how believe alleviate fear after a disaster.

-- Dallas bureau today.

I understand that you couldn't you or somebody who can not only help direct people how to manage and navigate.

What they're feeling inside with this but some you've also experienced tremendous loss.

You I understand lost everything in a tornado with your family when you were thirteen.

I'm -- I just -- -- kind of cue that up for you to talk about what people can do as I mentioned at the top of the show you we've got family members that are out on Long Island just.

And who have absolutely lost everything and and you just hear the story after story after story and resources are coming but you know it's not exactly quick.

How can people alleviate the fear.

After a disaster like this and just get through the beginning stages of how to get their life back on track.

Well it is a very difficult time of course I was a part of the tornado that took place in 1979 in which -- falls in north Texas.

The devastated the city and numerous people were killed our home was completely devastated.

And it was a very difficult time obviously a very difficult transition but there are several steps that people can take.

That can be a real catalyst in helping them move ahead.

One of the things that I would -- would be really engaging those that are involved -- family members.

This can be a very dramatic time especially for children sometimes parents have a tendency.

To reassure the kids everything's okay but.

And let's not talk about it let's move on -- we're going to be really important that they engaged to kids allow them to express their feelings allow them to express their emotions.

To give them an opportunity to talk about the way they feel in the wake of the tragedy like this.

Absolutely not I think it one of the the key points you've made on in our pre interview.

With engaging -- and it's so important that people realize not to dismiss.

Or minimize I think it not only at -- is so hurtful and people try to do the right thing by saying it's gonna be okay.

Everything's fine but when everything is not fine you don't want to hear that you wanna you wanna talk about reality.

And and really talk about how to move through that so I'm so glad that that is your number one point.

To get across to family members and especially family members dealing with children and let's talk about deploy.

And rally.

Yeah how old deployments very imported because.

As soon as possible it's very -- to people involved in something like this get back into normal routine now that sounds very easy for someone that's an out outsider looking in.

But it doesn't it doesn't minimize the amount of time spent worrying about what may happen what may go wrong.

So as soon as possible especially when you have children to get those kids back in ball in their normal schedule to get their mind off of the tragedy at hand.

Another aspect you mentioned it is really -- and that's rallying around people.

Networks of people that you're connected to and for some people that may be a faith based organization maybe it's a church -- Maybe it's a specific group that they're involved but somebody that they can share their feelings emotions what they're going through some different steps that they're working on -- trying to move past tragedy.

But -- the stay the same time keeping an open line of communication.

And staying close to that network that network of people that that understanding here.

And you also mentioned defining using it to get catastrophe to define -- moment in your life.

Elaborate on that -- Well just today I was reading this story about some other than the marathon that was canceled -- -- some of those people that were scheduled to run in the marathon had taken it.

The opportunity.

Rather than running in the marathon to help people that has suffered and -- this tragedy.

I think about for me and I talked about this in my book -- Nelson and after we went through terrible Tuesday this tornado that wiped out our home.

It was a defining moment in my life and now in my life but the lives of multitudes of people all over north Texas.

But it's a great opportunity to look at what happened and do what the folks did in regards to these marathon runners to make a decision.

To allow this to be something that's going to define my life to -- going to be something that's gonna allow me.

To make a difference in the lives of other people something that's gonna turn my life on a new path.

I think about some people who maybe are struggling in maybe some of their family relationships.

Wolf this is a good time -- to reconnect with family maybe there's been some broken relationships are some strained relationships.

So this can be a defining moment where rather than looking back at it from the standpoint of tragedy can you looked at as a standpoint of a turning point.

To make some improvements and some adjustments to refocus on what -- purposes in life.

That's you know that's a wonderful way to look at it hitting the reset button if you will.

I'm so many people are just are forced to hit the reset button even though they may not have wanted to.

May be in doing that you know looking for a different path and I want I wanna -- I have to wrap you but I want to ask you quickly.

To tell people where to find you because you -- part of -- of course you Jane Lauder says it's louder harvest ministries.

A little bit about all the work you do in your website.

Well.

-- you mentioned our website they're the work we do is we travel all across the country would do several things I do right.

And also we speak to students all over the nation in high schools junior highs colleges on substance abuse social and moral issues.

We do travel across the country communicating the gospel the life -- -- -- resurrection of Jesus Christ.

As well as doing quite a -- -- That's terrific and people can -- you both on the web site -- on Twitter as well right.

Absolutely in the world all social media and of course the website -- Jane Lauder dot com -- -- define we're all over the all of the Internet okay -- letter wanna thank you so much for being with us here today inspirational.

Motivational and ways that people can really -- on.

To those key points we talked about which of course are here on Fox News and on your website as well I thank you so much for joining us today.
