Across the northeastern United States a week after sandy hit the region like a ton of bricks.

Temperatures are dropping to -- the threat of a nor'easter this week probably tomorrow.

We have some pictures of Marines now helping in the clean up -- New York's Staten Island.

The storm flatten that island's South Shore with some coastal neighborhoods almost destroyed.

Another mess in a seemingly endless list of problems after the region's most catastrophic natural disaster on record.

Many of the homes and businesses here -- waist deep in water -- from watching residents.

Kerry there ruined possessions out to the street along with -- household garbage and rotting food and other debris and it's just too much for the sanitation trucks to handle but despite.

Is very cold weather in the lack of heat.

And power many of the thousands of residents here are reluctant to leave so there.

Lining -- to get relief from from a local release that are here they don't want to move and it shelters they don't want their possessions looted.

So they're gathering whatever food and water and diapers are being handed out and signing up for assistance from FEMA.

Yeah I feel good that we see help so there was no help then I think we deal that are worried that need the help -- -- you know there's someone here right.

I think we really -- The early show us sixty polling places were left unusable because of orbit damage -- two dozen of them.

Here in Brooklyn they planned to -- people to polling places tomorrow on Election Day and -- Rick still no power.

Well you know some residents here are slowly getting their power back of course the situation is slowly improving across the region.

Thanks in large part to thousands and thousands of utility workers who come here many of them.

And about half a million in New York.
