Now Robert Gibbs senior advisor for Obama for America.
Robert your thoughts -- where we are tonight.
Well look I think where we are tonight is where I'm looking at it is we're in pretty good shape all our path to 207.
Are still very much intact.
Romney campaign is surprised that of the nine battleground states they have an added one of those to their column tonight so look I feel very good about where we are.
I want to ask you about -- the way it's shaking out right now and in congress because the Republicans.
Are gonna retain control of the house it appears that -- that the Democrats are gonna retain control of the senate.
And so if Barack Obama gets reelected tonight.
It's gonna go back to a congress that looks an awful lot like the one that that you know there's been such contention with.
Over the past four years so how would things change.
Well Megan -- change because we have issues that we.
America gridlock haven't dealt with.
In order and getting us on -- -- fiscal path we know is looming over us and unless we sit down Democrat and Republican.
And actually talk and have some compromise and some give.
Among Republicans who have been quite frankly in.
Being to meet the president half way.
-- if we can start to do some of that we can see.
That will make some real progress a balanced way of getting our fiscal house in order and controlling our debts and our deficits.
I apologize to our viewers -- -- -- a few hits and in the satellite view street but we wanna hear from Hugh Roberts -- -- with this weekend can I just ask you it what -- the Republicans don't compromise.
They come back and they say.
We feel we have a mandate not to compromise we didn't really compromise that much over the past couple years and we feel like our voters told us.
Continue that what does Barack Obama do then.
Well I I think if you look at the approval rating of Republicans in congress nationally.
I think it's lower than the national drinking age when your approval rating is lower than the national drinking age you're not doing well and I think if Republicans take from.
Approval rating that's that low that what they're doing is the right way to lead the country.
Then I think they haven't probably spent enough time looking.
Brawl out of what this campaign.
Isn't quite frankly in talking to people where they live they don't live on the extremes in this they live somewhere in the middle and they want to get something done in a positive way for this.
Robert had -- there last question you may want things to get done it.
You're saying that for a long time Democrats have on the hill were saying if the president wanted it was about breaking the backs of the Republican Party to kind of break them.
-- Follow his agenda and that's not what you -- none enough I don't I don't I don't look I don't I don't know one is gonna get everything they law.
