Anti -- what -- called race for the White House has been called in Obama's favorite because he was unable to solve America's problems over the past four years.
The president -- just inherited one big mess and it's a mess that he now must take ownership public as well in part he created it.
Now the blame game stops right here right now -- and take a lot of time to sort through all of the data to understand why last night happened.
So let's begin by making a few simple observations and they're important.
Now the first one is that Americans you get the government you want and deserve.
-- pains me to say this but America right now deserves Barack Obama.
Now four years ago the public could be excused for voting for Obama because he was a blank canvas on which people could draw whatever pictures that they wanted a lot this time.
Barack Obama had a record that we can judge him by and a majority of Americans just barely over 50%.
Looked at that record and decided they wanted more of the same.
I couldn't figure out why they arrived -- bad judgment.
And a thousand years but we are a self governing country and the voice and the will of the people -- heard and felt last night.
America want to Barack Obama for four more years and now we have -- by the way good luck with that.
Now Obama armed with hundreds of millions of dollars systematically portrayed Mitt Romney as a tax cheat a felon a liar a mortal threat to women.
And is responsible for the death of a steel worker's wife.
It was wall to wall ugly from the very beginning till the end.
And in the end Obama may have delivered a more crippling blow against Romney that we could ever imagine.
Now last August political ran a story in which you quoted a democratic strategist close to the White House who said that their goal was to kill Mitt Romney.
-- looks like they did a good job of that.
Now one tragedy of this election is that Obama's dirty tactics.
Have -- been vindicated.
And when I'm gonna see this kind of tactics were replicated for many years to come thanks to Barack Obama.
Politics is now dirty air then it was and it'll get worse with -- others trying to now perfect this politics of personal destruction.
Now obviously we all wish the election to come out the other way at least I do on this program.
And the prospect of four more years of Barack Obama's president is not one that sits well with me but.
Well we can't give up the fight for the causes that we believe believe in and the country that we sell off.
So I suppose is fine if you want take a few days you can hang your head you could feel sorry for yourself in the country.
Last night was a terrific body blow we all know it.
But we need to recover we need to dust ourselves off you need to get off the canvas and -- -- -- work again but as you really don't have a choice.
You know we are not sunshine patriots.
The test of character is how -- gonna handle ourselves in the hard times.
And -- a hard times so we need to redouble our efforts.
We need to do more not less and if -- thing you know what history would say that we are unworthy of the -- we've been -- if we do anything less.
Now the first thing that needs to be said is we cannot abandon our principles which I say -- timeless.
And the only reason we -- in politics is because we care about a set of principles we have core convictions.
And a victory requires us to give principles up there's no reason to be involved in politics.
Now fortunately we're nowhere near being near that point our principles still have resonance in this country.
You know people don't believe it does look back to the 2010 midterm elections how did you feel that night I was a historic repudiation -- Barack Obama and the Democratic Party.
-- sooner rather than later I predict the country is going to call out to conservatism for help.
That's set and there's one other thing that we need to come to terms with -- as a result of last night.
What appears to what happened is that the liberal welfare state in this country.
Has now grown more more Americans have now become dependent on that welfare state.
And as they have they have found themselves siding with the party of government.
-- to be clear.
Isn't necessarily -- permanent condition -- you go back to the 1970s.
Margaret Thatcher became prime minister of England which had become the quote a sick man of Europe.
The British people had lost their sense of self reliance and -- by the force of a personality and the appeal of her ideas and ideals.
She was able to reverse the direction of things and the same thing as true of Ronald Reagan.
Now sometimes the public sense of self reliance and commitment to liberty -- -- ebbs it flows it's not static.
And just because we're in the valley one day does not mean we cannot ascend to the mountain -- the next.
So let not your heart be troubled don't despair it's not an option.
But realism is also very important.
And as a conservative we have to realize that our task is very different and in some aspects.
More typical than we ever thought we have to make the case a compelling case in human terms in moral terms.
Why in this dependency is bad for the country.
And it's bad for the individuals.
And we have to present a vivid picture to people why human happiness.
And not didn't.
