Good morning from the West Coast 11 AM here in Los Angeles 2 PM out east of course for that nor'easter is swinging through making things a bit cold and tough of course are people are already.
Hammered by the hurricane just about nine days ago we talked about that of course last week -- how social media has -- we'll continue to bring that into the mix as well into the discussion.
We also have more on what happened with the presidential campaign and the ultimate election that was just two days ago on Tuesday.
How social media play it's it's a strong part in that.
And of course -- talking about that for about a month or so we'll now look back at that as well.
And we have all sorts of gadgets to show you here as we move through this half hour -- any question big concerns any comments you can -- is right here.
In the chat -- section on live dot foxnews.com you can also of course -- On FaceBook as well as on Twitter at Adam Housley I'm right here monitoring it throughout the day you'll simulate -- usually I'm checking to see what you're saying what questions you have.
About today's shells -- to start right away with going to Peterson Aikman.
Peter is in new York and he'll be talking to us about how social media played out with this election Peter you could find him at.
Act Peter -- man he's with these and social media consultant of course the statement dot com Peter thanks for joining us -- day here on.
You know we were talking about this for a number of weeks com about how social media really played a part this year.
Of course in 2008 -- -- in 2010 you had FaceBook and Twitter flying apart but this year of course Twitter is really.
Hubble the last two years is really -- is a strong stance and so many ways and so many people's lives.
I give us a rundown of how that played out with -- -- -- the election on Tuesday night how many people were involved.
What a question I mean two footer broke all sorts of records that the first day that was the first the most largest tweeted about single event in the in the history of Twitter.
Obviously Louis based -- -- was -- -- -- FaceBook but -- tweets coming on on on Twitter where.
Where much much much faster at a much faster rate than people post on FaceBook and down well it certainly didn't influence people going polls it was really itching to see.
What people were talking about -- in real time how long the lines where other people in New York who were able to announce some.
Which which polling places didn't have affidavits which public places had them.
And not -- they're using real time.
Distribution of that.
But yet it was fascinating I think that -- -- FaceBook standpoint it was also fascinating I'd love to see FaceBook released a chart over the past month as to how many people were unfriendly.
The number of on findings on -- -- that quite higher profits of thousands you know.
I post I'm on my FaceBook page today -- -- the consulate and a -- that for the first time in 24 -- that the president wanted to what's all the different elections over.
You know so it really was interesting on the -- -- FaceBook is kept turning to YouTube.
You the YouTube comments section in -- -- it.
It seems that the more social media comes together the more as a nation we lose our ability to have coherent arguments.
You know it seems at about two to three.
Comments 12 and three and by the fourth comedy it's negative name calling Osama bought.
And you know it seems like backing 2000 to 2004 we were much better at arguing.
Yet you don't.
It's funny today about the -- common -- both sides of me -- my Twitter page.
And my FaceBook page for the last two months and I know I'm afraid to say in the same thing were inundated with political comments everything from.
You know we hate Mitt Romney -- -- -- Barack Obama and why and of course Hitler was thrown into it.
-- -- -- was thrown into it.
Just about every other you know -- fascism I mean you can throw out all the different.
Terminology is an -- names that you learn all -- throughout the course of your history classes and in college and in high school.
I just about every single.
The issue or our party whose named at some point.
Having said that -- allegedly got really frustrated -- -- A lot of my friends actually stop looking at FaceBook and Twitter for the last week and those had a lot of -- -- didn't look at it on Tuesday or Wednesday could they just a wanna deal with as one of my friends that.
I -- -- -- pictures of people.
Got to look at where the cats where the cat.
I think what what got an amazing we'll get an amazing -- arm which was rarely used before the election now is the most popular feature on FaceBook not frantic unsubscribe it.
But you -- click on -- -- and just go out on subscribe you don't lose them as a friend but they never know the never seen anything they post I think.
But half my audience -- -- carpet in the past.
A couple of weeks because again it was.
You know and then get my proposal with the people who were who were beating the audience you know we're posting something just left of center or just right center and it pacing back and watch it.
There -- times.
There -- some things for fun to get some popcorn.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- You know what frustrated -- frustrate me a little bit was on the day of the election I said no matter which way this goes before we knew the President Obama had been reelected as a matter which way this goes.
We're pretty much going to be in the same place whether governor Romney had warrants or President Obama had been reelected you're still gonna have roughly 5050 definitive -- still going to be 5050.
The house is still there you go to whether Republicans most of the -- this and it was still gonna be controlled by the Democrats which it was.
We're kind of in the same place no matter who was elected and I had people on both sides friends that Republican saying.
I can't believe you're not supporting Mitt Romney but why would you see that -- and my friends on the other side saying.
You know what Adam because you just can't hack you can't handle the fact the president is gonna be reelected and I'm sitting there go -- I didn't even given -- Palin go to garage is a signal fact the one I don't anywhere the most.
It is it is really amazing and you know what what's really -- is that.
For every argument that some would bring up on on FaceBook.
Or Twitter someone would figured -- -- -- derail it and turn into something else so it was almost like it was a good Washington and now we're version of the -- Because -- everywhere out there.
You know they'd ask questions and answering the question -- you off into what they want to talk about you know these are we doing this weekend.
-- -- question I'm glad you brought up this week and I really tend to have fun how to have fun really.
-- -- -- guys it's it's you know it no matter what happens you still looking to 5050 split and of course that just infuriate everyone else what's really interesting though is that is that I think.
You know eight years ago twelve is that a recovery needs -- 96 conventions for America Online for the -- from AOL.
And we have the same exact thing going on a much smaller scale is in that we hold these political chats from the conventions are.
From where every war and you get a couple of hundred people you know and that was huge for us the time we have a couple hundred people and it would start off very very formally.
We felt if we opened it up -- just let people post in the chat room.
-- you couldn't get a word -- it was it was entirely too much noise not enough signal and we're seeing the same thing a grander scale so we really haven't learned much what we have learned though.
For those who are Smart about it you know I personally during the course of the night.
At 8:30 PM -- -- an hour -- And I somehow wake up at 9:30 -- 10 o'clock and I'll just simply scroll back the last one -- -- -- caught up.
So if nothing else it's given us the ability to find stuff out much -- You know it Peters we're talking right now I mean -- in a lot of people again we're looking forward to the political commercials going away a couple.
The political postings going away on FaceBook and Twitter but -- I'm talking -- getting viewers right now tweeting and asking me about this about that.
There's already a lot of speculation who's in who's out in the second administration -- when asked me.
Is it true that that holders out of the Department of Justice I mean security getting.
This from Robert forum in between that and to me just now -- getting people that are speculating who's in who's out who's here who's there who's going who's coming.
You know the you're already getting those political type comments and -- two days out from this election.
And the new people haven't even -- morning we -- an office for another couple of months.
And seamless experience he was in my stream as -- as I look you know it they are you always had to -- -- politicos who who really.
Two -- with -- Mecca and now the sort of have to come down -- it's it's like the person who.
At 3 -- -- just wanted to go -- you can go to bed they wanna have one more beer you had guys it might be time regular rest go home take a couple of topic of sleep.
You know -- -- -- -- -- back and check gonna come back we'll start this again but yet we have.
What they say -- sixteen months eighteen months and actually get work done -- in the second term before it's pretty much over.
So you know give -- until January I'd -- if you want to.
Keep your friends on FaceBook and keep your friends of where.
Give -- -- January find something else to talk about of the storm and in the in the East Coast.
I've Gabby Giffords who is testifying candidate -- a lot of stuff going on that that we could talk about other than the election.
-- -- Peter I got a bunch of people tweeting in a sitting in -- of course a line this one comes tomorrow line site Christopher Todd is saying.
There's a simple removal of a face to face conversation where the most critical role -- social media fails as a platform to debate an issue.
-- you cannot convey tone or attitude and words are easily misconstrue.
That's -- really how did you respond to do really good point and and more importantly it's an excellent point and it just as important if not more importantly.
You people get a lot more guts.
And they -- -- if you look at some of the stuff that's that online.
Would you ever have the guts to say that's your friend in person at a bar especially some of the wasn't really close Cuba -- -- that peripheral friends.
-- some of the things that people of Saddam on my page and everyone's -- -- never have the guts to say that some of the bar or restaurant at a meeting.
But you know you're online that you have protective screen of your laptop.
For some reason we get a lot more gutsy and we we see a lot more things and if you take that protective screen away and you put these same people in the room they're getting much much quiet.
Quick governance and missed a couple more -- go away at a -- -- -- in saying.
You know I keep asking was why was I wrong for -- Romney -- you -- for voting for Obama no answer from my friends that a person saying.
Where you know where this was a social media bias towards the left I was blocked and I replied to Obama -- you have a lot of people of course.
They have their own opinions out there whether the -- media's -- to the right to left.
You know what they really quickly is that I notice -- you make made this mention as well as laws and our viewer you can't tell about people's tone.
At the same time they -- make the argument there's a lot more ways to get information out there maybe this engaged more people to pay attention.
And take part in some way right up.
Question that it might rule on my laws very -- you -- post whatever you want longer you -- civil.
And it -- -- I will host that conversation or any engagement -- debate because I think it's good for America good for us good -- -- to -- -- -- different sides but.
You gotta keep it simple the second stop keeping it simple you know you have no place -- I well I think that the more I think we learned that a lot in this election I think we're gonna see hopefully in the next four years.
A higher level of discourse -- come at a -- -- I can help.
All right Peter -- when you find that Peter Sagan Peter agreed to have a young one of our viewers his tweets as we go to break here.
-- this Alanis Simmons saying vote not bite so we're getting up I don't -- -- feedback on this we'll continue to do provide feedback for those of the move on to other topics out throughout this half hour we'll bring those up for those watching at home Peter thanks again for your time from New York.
Ali come back we have two more great segments as well as a ton of gadgets to show you here on set that are affordable animal surprise you can still get -- again on Twitter FaceBook.
And right here on -- that -- dot foxnews.com.
On the chat section stay with us.
All right welcome back it is -- 11 AM here on the West Coast to eleven of course saudis who read keep mentioning about the the storm -- -- in the northeast are thought to courts and prayers are with people dealing.
With that storm just nine days after the hurricane ran through there they have a nor'easter bring -- -- -- cold weather so we'll continue to update you on that meantime.
You can contact us right here on live at fox live dot foxnews.com.
I'll get that right.
Also -- Twitter and FaceBook and we were getting tons of messages in here in a pretty big crowd of people watching today so we'll try to get to as many people as possible meantime.
We go from the East Coast to the West Coast out to the left coast we have eating poppy joining us she's a CEO and founder of -- vertical response talking about how small businesses are using social media.
And I don't you mean it.
I'm gonna take this into the whole election thing is -- have a lot of friends who own small businesses have FaceBook Twitter pages -- to end -- profiles.
And they were afraid to say anything.
Throughout the course of the last three or four months and even on Election Day a lot of we're afraid to say whether they were happy or sad about the results how that played in the social media.
And it's definitely something that when -- what we're talking to our small business customers and that kind of asking us what they should do around it.
You know we we kinda shy away from that a little bit -- it's it's it's really this has been the most controversial election and take it to date and -- -- you really wanna do is alienate your customers.
And you know anything that is a really controversial.
Well you know we we kind of we kind of err on the side of caution.
Now there's a new there's a new study out -- only had the other day because a lot of small businesses are getting more and more involved and -- -- fact.
We have full screen actually some graphics to show our viewers at home.
I gotta get an idea small business using -- -- -- small -- -- businesses using social media.
Spending more time -- -- -- -- focus on FaceBook and Twitter they realize the value of content they find the value in paying for social media tools.
As we look at that.
Are you are you seeing I guess they're -- -- for a while like you were saying it was -- to connect for the customers that way but they were getting maybe as much as they wanted out of it.
But it seems to be change.
Well I think that the perception on the small businesses change for instance when we look at the survey we had about 500 responses from the survey.
We found that 66%.
Of the small businesses surveyed were using social media more of this year than they were last year.
And I think that may be in in years of past too many small businesses are just trying to put this a message out there to sell something.
And I think the perception of social media has really changed with the small business because now they're looking -- as more of an engagement to all.
As more of -- let's put a -- on our business and -- communicate with our customers our prospects.
Let's open the doors and let them see who we really are.
And instead of just -- to sell things.
Now my question also -- social media tools because there are a lot of people out there advertising a lot of things in ways to help you.
Get more people on your social media sites to get people more engaged in your business has explained some of those -- pools that are out there.
And and what may be worth paying for and what may be not worth paying for -- -- maybe something you don't want to spend the money.
You know for her for the social media's pretty much free.
The problem that small businesses actually how to is that they don't have enough time.
To go to Twitter to go to FaceBook to go to -- and -- engage with all of those audiences.
So I think that definitely the ones are worth paying for are the ones that really consolidate all of the social media so that.
Then the next new social network that comes out.
That's not small business doesn't have to learn how to interact with bad -- social network.
It's just all in one place -- -- tolls on the market that are very inexpensive.
Pay by the month where you can go to one place.
Do all of your social networking.
Engage with all their customers without having to spend a lot of time -- in an out of a lot of social media sites.
Yeah -- I think is it is safe to say that for people home who are watching us you know we all interact with our friends on social media sites and when you go to your official -- -- or whether -- what did.
You get maybe a little bit too official you don't in Iraq as much as you should you try to sell things become yet.
When actually it's very simple it's just like you doing -- personal page it's good to talk to people maybe.
Tell stories answer questions and maybe get off of a -- from the actual business did you do in some respects to connect.
That's so you.
It should not be anything different than what you do normally and social media you know you like something that one of you are followers said go ahead hit the like button.
You have a great picture of your employees at a volunteering -- that posted the face -- You know it's the same -- that you're -- in your daily.
Life -- social media.
He should be doing those types of things I you know -- maybe not get too risque.
You know definitely have some fun with -- I think that's split.
That's the beauty of social media that you can put a face on your business you can have some fun -- it you don't need you should not be -- you should not only be posting.
You -- that things about your business that our gonna get you more sales you should be posting things about your business that people care about.
You know -- even on our FaceBook page we we have some fun with -- we post cartoons and you know -- pictures of the week and that sort of thing.
With a nice mix how we can help small businesses grouse.
You know there is that there is definitely that -- mix that businesses need to sort of watch -- -- but.
Not not to get to business C.
-- -- topic good advice CEO and founder vertical response coming to us from San Francisco.
Appreciate your time we'll have you back on about more small businesses -- what they can do.
By using there's vertical response there's a -- -- right there what small businesses can do to market grow their business online.
You can find more -- -- company that's vertical response dot com all right Jeanne thanks for joining us in San Francisco thanks for having me.
All right so we go from New York December Cisco and after the break -- to get a couple of comments -- before we go to break will be going to the center of the country to Milwaukee Wisconsin's a written just about every corner we can't.
-- here in the US before we go to break -- a couple of quick feedback from a -- from Twitter online now from -- some of our followers.
Robert to George says Reid needs to retire now so it continues with the political -- after the election people -- deciding.
What they want to have that happen now whether it be as part of the administration nor of course Reid is a senator so.
How much or he'll be retiring the fourth election that's for -- also Robert to George says hide the fact that.
They Republicans -- the majority is far more significant than Obama's campaign rhetoric.
Of course the people that support President Obama wouldn't say that -- that's one of the different important things came -- -- -- election is again.
Yet Republicans keep the house and a significant majority had Obama win as well on the -- -- descendants were pretty much.
In the same place we were before the election which is what I posted -- my Twitter feed a couple of days ago during election.
-- -- Allen also watching watching so at least we appreciate you are watching us right now.
When we come back we'll go to the center of the country to Milwaukee Wisconsin we also have more gadgets to show you here on set and if you have any comments again you can comment right here.
On live dot foxnews.com on Twitter on FaceBook we'll try to get as many -- -- as in as we can.
Meantime hang with this -- -- take this quick break.
Welcome back it's 1119 here on the West Coast -- 219 out east once again if you're somebody on the East Coast and deal with that nor'easter -- thoughts and prayers are with you guys.
But a tough couple weeks out there that's for sure -- if we do you have a lot of different ways you can follow the action and in what's happening on the East Coast of reporters of course all over the region you can find that.
On the main page as well as of course Fox News Channel fox Fox Business Network.
Meantime you can still contact us here on Twitter on FaceBook and of course and the chat section alive dot foxnews.com -- getting a lot of people tweeting in.
About the election.
And their opinions on how things went and of course we have some -- is here we'll show you as well so we started out on the L on the East Coast in New York you went to the west -- to San Francisco Virginian now we're gonna go to Milwaukee Wisconsin we're gonna bring in via Skype.
Our next guest.
And you know what's interesting about it up before we get there -- gonna pull up that'd be my like my bio on -- right -- When he comes to us and he's the power of power formula for Lincoln's success of the real -- of one -- bullet out.
But -- is because.
For a lot of people myself included we don't maybe take as it much advantage of Linkedin as we should -- mean Twitter and FaceBook it.
For some reason and kind of -- easier for a lot of people -- -- Lincoln has a very strong -- a great way especially if you're in the contact business staying in contact with business associates.
Lincoln the great way to do that right.
No question -- it's got so little or don't always.
I tell you what when it comes to getting businesses -- -- we're done.
You know we have a number of different ways you can master your Linkedin profile -- the first three right now and ask you about those.
Put more emphasis on your profile photo.
Interesting because you know you think about a Linkedin.
There's much more of a business platforms that he had herself up there you know out of the lake on a boat with a beer in your hand probably at the best -- put in your profile.
The -- would take advantage of what's no longer needs.
Third wanted to work on your headlines so well -- give us you're you're taken all three of those.
So all in all the horrible things and -- went through unless you're selling beer -- -- -- -- and for how.
-- I mean -- -- meant to be sort of like that replacement for huge shaking somebody's hand and networking event.
So it should just be a professional shot it should be you know it is not twenty years old you look like you look -- -- and we -- in the -- -- -- -- -- -- -- before.
And that was meant to be real professional but just how you look in the marketplace if you don't work I don't work time.
You know unless you sell Harley-Davidson's don't want us he is an -- Davidson -- ball.
-- -- I'll watch all of your former weather changes that -- you -- -- you know.
A while that's what a lot of good good little action a lot what order we didn't pull out of their element.
We might have -- so important that would be right back here the next you're ahead.
I'm on your profile.
And I have I hope that this will be included.
In on what if the ball well and boy did I didn't quite get it.
Then they went ahead and we -- you were all its own bit of pop or you know what what if -- company.
You know -- citizen that headline you mentions same thing for a newspaper for example you don't have a good headline you're not gonna get people read the article.
It was a something they really want to know about and for so there's so much information out there.
You want that headline to be strong to be powerful to be to be accurate and to pull someone -- to your profile correct.
There could Google the right here.
But then you wouldn't want people -- -- do you pull pull all the -- and I didn't want to let you know that.
-- we have we have three more suggestions of ways people can work on the -- profile put those up right now for people at home you can write these animal -- to comment on these as well.
The summary section is much more prominent.
So make sure you have a good summary of course is part of that.
To treat contact information like a business card.
That's a very good suggestion especially -- -- someone call you would home.
And a third one consider that website addresses are harder to fine.
And that's a good one as well because again you can contact someone directly on Linkedin.
You don't necessarily need to go to the website address I assume -- for the first on the first one night that summary section give us your thoughts in the summary section how come it's so important.
Welcome to the world what -- -- itself had been moved up in the court of law.
Or it won't be all because of -- the -- coffee already proven it won't just to assure a little little ball today.
That you interest in -- won't -- credible or to do what we did all the and then what -- couldn't gobbled.
You know cocoa didn't know what they won't be an accompanying what you do maybe what would we should help -- -- And it -- here -- -- at a point what happened didn't.
I'll bring the message boards are what you all know the ball right.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- All of the pain management you want you make sure they'll -- it.
What I -- conflict -- I want to point there.
And it won't insure that this that this commission didn't want people need to contract.
Often I -- -- -- -- -- on the web site address it.
If you want -- to content that you include not only can you don't know probably the only that but if you're the first to believe.
On the extreme walk and it wouldn't -- of the art.
What -- what why the web -- address.
Why is that so import I mean obviously was on Billy -- -- -- -- BC it's harder to find and explain that.
We know what you perceive it that that -- the new features there's a little -- -- -- -- Need to -- all the -- Wonderful web site that -- -- on the night of the ball below your photo wallet.
Or what what what are you open up.
But you're not going to look when you think you didn't read the -- -- dropped -- It was one of course should be -- own -- your web site but some don't want so why.
Didn't believe you didn't put.
Hated it could -- a picture commission are watching video or be involved in the war that they shouldn't the public it -- this.
Won't be doing it did not want to -- who are more or didn't respond to -- that.
All right -- -- Barth come into us live via Skype from Milwaukee Wisconsin thanks -- for your time good.
Advice for -- linked in profile -- big business small business people especially at home or for someone trying to -- The network some good advice and of course you can find more will -- in those tips up and you find -- -- -- at Wayne bright -- That's his Twitter handle so.
We come back to -- some of these data stick with a we have a much economist human to bring up as well people tweeting in cities comments on FaceBook as well -- right here live -- foxnews.com we'll have -- your comments.
And I got -- a couple -- the controversial -- to bring them up so we'll have those just a moment stay with us.
All right welcome back it's 46 -- our eleventh -- -- six of course you're out west to 26 out east I have some great comments coming in -- -- very controversial play about those.
In a moment first of -- talking about the gadgets each week we had gadgets like to show you.
-- you can find out on the market that are affordable this one here is pretty fantastic is called the mighty -- war.
You can -- -- for about 75 dollars a little speaker that -- a -- -- -- speakers in the market appetite is the first one really -- my guy.
Eight connects directly to your computer -- of the USB.
But also you can put us in micro SD card in here so -- you can play right off the card so for example when -- turn us on what's in this for second comes on until like right there.
Don't look at small fusion right and -- -- now -- that you put on a table.
This sounds just.
Absolutely transforms into the users -- -- -- -- here to the wall to it uses the -- -- speaker home.
And ask Colin hello my lower class it's -- has seen in -- 75 dollars.
Marty -- war if you thought it might do work dot com and I recommend that second this -- out it's pretty cool we are said the light building system here it's call light breaks.
It's somewhat like -- in a lot of respects you see it plugs in are actually -- -- -- battery power pardon me.
But it has like the same kind of idea as Lagos have all different kinds of of like bricks out there as for six year olds -- up.
I'm kind of feel Russell toys very -- -- -- always pretty neat they run from 34200 dollars -- planes like seventy bucks.
I LED lights of course light him up.
From light breaks that they're pretty interesting and actually get -- efforts for kids who like Legos might be the next step for them especially to the wintertime and of course everything so much darker.
These are simple.
This -- -- -- gift box there's a ton of them out there as we get towards other holiday season everything from connect to go there and they're fake they're fake items like -- connect accord.
This one here is the largest game controller ever seen.
-- -- and they're not actually.
Real items what do they -- out to boxes of you buy someone a sweater.
They might -- -- and getting a -- sleep for your feet when his sides actually so what is gonna father but five to seven dollars a prank gift boxes.
And the final thing we want to August all three to -- -- we touch we did touch the light bricks and in the -- gift box of the three days when I say this week -- secrecy some easy actually shot cameras.
Meantime a couple of quick -- tweets we've had coming here that I thought were kind of -- first of all.
Steve King asked why is Marco Rubio going to Iowa.
Well there's a lot of things you can say about that I will tell you that we do know that steak -- is next September seniority gonna start hearing about possible candidates for the next presidential campaign.
You'll start hearing that about -- in September of 2013.
So I -- ready for that and real quickly one more.
Canada immigration asked why does Fox News hate America really.
Really I don't think that's really -- that they did the truth at all in fact I'll love it's that would be more about that because that's ridiculous.
