Just learned moments ago that CIA director -- General David Petraeus has now resigned.

The general has sent a letter to the White House saying that he resign because he was having an extramarital.

Affair.

And that's the reason.

President Obama has now accepted that resignation apparently this happened over the past 24 hours going back and forth between the Central Intelligence Agency.

As well as the White House -- David Petraeus is no longer.

The director of the CIA.

I want to bring in the anchor of special report Bret Baier who Cleary clearly has covered this with the specials you had -- in the past two or three weeks on Ben Ghazi.

Well first -- just off the -- was someone who has talked with General Petraeus just.

Just in the few past few moments.

And the message was.

A couple of points one was.

Tell the truth it was my request the White House did not pressure me to do this.

This had nothing to do with Ben Ghazi nothing at all this was my request.

This had nothing to do with it I want to testify about Ben Ghazi.

There was nothing to do with the White House pressuring me to leave this job.

And it did have to do with the according to sources.

An extramarital affair.

And that is now confirmed.

We are seeing here is the development Catherine Herridge has talked about.

And who this man is.

He is a stellar military career serving the United States.

And if you look back at that career.

And we should in context of what he's done for the country.

As as he get gets ready to leave his career perhaps not in the brightest lights.

Because of an extramarital affair.

And in the light of having to testify about the situation in Ben Ghazi.

You look back -- years and years of service and what he did in Iraq and what he did in Afghanistan.

And what he's done all throughout as a general and throughout his time in the military.
