Could the attack had been prevented or repelled after it began.
What does the White House -- and went.
Fox News has been on this story from the very beginning this.
Hour details you haven't her.
And as we enter the final stretch of the race for the White House which side is closer to the truth.
Those who argue this terrible tragedy was largely unforeseeable.
And on preventable.
And that the president should not be blamed.
Or those who say we're seeing president Obama's foreign policy.
Right on our TV screens.
It was supposed to be one of the triumphs of president Obama's foreign policy.

August 5 2012 state decides not to keep the SST in Libya.
The MSD team is being reduced as well why do you think this request -- tonight.
I don't know I really don't know former US ambassador to the United Nations John -- I think that what was motivating the State Department.
Was that if we had security that would have truly been appropriate it would have been an admission that conditions on the ground in Libya were not safe.
And that would have.
Violated the world views that that this then administration.
Success -- August day.

Either way Stephens Smith and the good work slapped by diabolical killers who poured diesel fuel around my house -- -- And we.
When we come back the trapped Americans tried desperately to escape.
Before the break -- pal -- told you -- terrorists overran the US consulate compound in Benghazi Libya.
A handful of Americans caught by surprise pinned down in three different locations.
Three of these men including ambassador Chris Stevens have locked themselves in a so called safe haven in one of the buildings.
The attackers can't break in so they've set the place of blades.
The safe haven has become a fiery jail in the middle of a shooting gallery.

After him and so even though he can barely see early brewery he goes back and in fact he goes back in and out several times.
You can't behind him and he is overcome with smoke.
Back at the CIA and next sources tell Fox News there's another request to go and assist the people at the compound.
But once again they say they're told the staple it.
Once again -- CIA says it never happened quote we can say with confidence that the agency reacted quickly to your colleagues during that terrible evening and they -- -- at the compound -- -- that the.
Dramatic security agents make their way to the main residence.
They call into the residents on our hands of these feeling their way through the building to try to find their two colleagues they find Smith.

Sources say request -- meanwhile special forces -- moved to southern Italy 480 miles away.
Pentagon officials later expressed concern about putting them in harm's way.
Without a clear picture of intelligence -- a thousand miles away air jet fighters and attack helicopters.
Officials say -- -- -- -- was not an option for fear of civilian casualties and collateral damage.
Back at the mission looters enter the building and find the body of Stevens slumped on the floor.

Two other Americans are killed former Navy SEALs Glen Dora the entire world woods -- and the -- position on the rooftop of -- -- They were hit by a mortar.
They didn't go down without a fight Fox News national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin.
We know from witnesses and sources that spoke to those witnesses that -- Doherty and Tyler woods machine gun that they were sharing on the was caked in blood.
It is said that they continued firing.
And they continued fighting after they were hit.
A decision is made to evacuate the whole enterprise living analysts -- coordinate a convoy to a -- the Americans to the airport.

The bodies of ambassador Steven's songs win an -- story and wounds.
-- Chris Stevens was the first US ambassador killed on duty in more than three decades.
This story lose back to Washington.
Up next new details on the Obama administration's reaction.
Was that the fog of war and attempted cover up.
Or something else special report investigate.
After the break.
Returning to our store.
It's September 11 2012 the attack on the US consulate in bank Ghazi is under way.
Back in Washington what does the president know and one does he know it.
What does he said.
And -- does he say.
Question that turn this terror attack into a political firestorm.
Here's chief White House correspondent Ed Henry.
September 11 as the attack had been Gaza playing out emails cascaded to the mailboxes of high ranking officials and intelligence community in the Pentagon and even the White House -- 5 PM eastern time.
The diplomatic mission is under attack.
49 minutes later for it before yeah firing at the US diplomatic initiative and -- has stopped in the compound has been cleared.
At 5 PM the president vice president and Defense Secretary Leon Adams -- In the Oval Office.
That's about an hour.
After the attack began.
At that time they -- had eight A drone and a video feed from a drone being fed back to Washington.
Fox News national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin the problem is don't forget that video from a drowning it's taken from.
Distance you don't have any clarity Aston who with a lot of ground to -- figures moving it's hard to tell friendly from -- 607 PM another email states that it terror group with ties to al-Qaeda claimed responsibility on FaceBook and Twitter.
Administration officials later -- a posting on social media is not in and of itself evident.
11:57 PM another chilling email subject line they've got -- shelter location also under attack.
The next morning September 12 President Obama addresses the nation from the Rose Garden.
And what he says or doesn't say will become a hotly debated issue over the next days and weeks.
Since our -- The United States has been a nation -- respects all faiths.
All efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others.
But there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence.
With those words the president seems to be saying.
Ambassador Chris Stevens at three other Americans were killed in a spontaneous riot over that anti Mohammed Internet video.
And not a planned terror attack.
But few paragraphs later however he does use the term terror.
But in a more general sense after -- were calls -- September 11 2001 al-Qaeda attacks.
No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve this great nation.
It is the hugely important distinction to some Obama critics like bestselling author and commentator mark Stein there -- always reasons to riot.
In the Muslim while.
Stein believes the president was trying to dodge responsibility for the attack.
By chalking it up to the sort of sudden irrational out of proportion outrage we often hear about in the Muslim world.
I happen to be in the Oval Office once and President Bush.
Gave -- very droll line he's I was always something if it's not the crusades it's the cartoons and in other words you might ride over the Danish cartoons.
Or a Sudanese school -- -- bad.
All the slow on decaying ice cream topped that happens and look like -- are written in Arabic there's always a reason to -- That afternoon the president leaves for campaign trip to Las Vegas.
As the United States did not postpone a campaign event even though we had been hit.
I said at the time.
I thought that that was the biggest political strategic mistake.
Of the Obama campaign Dana Perino was the white house Press Secretary for the George W Bush Administration she's now -- Fox News host just imagine if he would have said.
As commander in chief it is important for me to stay back here at the White House to imagine everybody thought wow how responsible.
Once the president made a statement.
I'm not sure what he should have done Democrat Ella nor Holmes Norton represents the District of Columbia -- -- was -- in morning.
For several days and not go about our daily business.
September 13 secretary of state Hillary Clinton suggests the attack was just a spontaneous demonstration about the anti Islam video.
There is no justification.
None at all.
To this video with violence.
White house Press Secretary Jay Carney explicitly blames the video the next day.
-- in reaction to -- did we have no information to suggest that it was a pre planned.
And later that day at the transfer of remains ceremony at joint base Andrews Clinton talks again about the video.
We've seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful.
Internet video that we had nothing to do with.
The father of one of those killed later tells Fox News Clinton told him personally there were going to arrest and prosecute the producer of the video.
The next day September 15 California authorities called the cool of the -- to cool the man who produced that video in question.
In March him in front of -- weekend.
September 16 US ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice goes on five Sunday talk shows repeating the same story each time.
This was not a pre planned premeditated.
That what happened initially was it it was a spontaneous.
Reaction to what had just transpired in Cairo.
It as a consequence of the video.
They panic former White House chief of staff John Sununu is now a senior advisor to Republican Mitt Romney's campaign.
This is purely a political reaction.
In a White House that had prepared itself.
To establish a narrative of a president.
Getting rid of the threat of terrorism.
Using the death of bin Laden to focus on that.
And waking up 1 morning and finding out the terrorism on 9/11 not this year.
Was back full fledged and even killing -- US ambassador.
Former Obama State Department spokesman PJ -- I I don't see.
A political agenda.
Here I see the fog of war the fact that we we still do not know it's not about politics it's it's about the difficult task.
What happened and having full access.
To the site and all the people that played a role in this September 18.
Did the administration had any sort of heads up.
That violence was increasing specifically Libya before the -- I'm not aware of any had this is a matter that's under investigation in terms of what precipitated the attack.
That night on the Late Show with David Letterman President Obama gives perhaps his most elaborate explanation of what he says happened in -- Ghazi.
Was it a spontaneous riot or planned attack happened a combination of the two he suggests.
He had a video that was released by.
Somebody who lives here.
Sort of shadowy character and this -- Great offense.
In much of the Muslim world.
But what also happened was extremists and terrorists.
Use this as an excuse.
A variety of our embassies including the one the consulate in in Libya.
But on September 25 that the United Nations the president mentioned the video six times there's no video that -- an attack on -- September 27 the producer of that video in the -- -- lead to -- is ordered detained without bail by a federal judge.
For allegedly violating the terms of his probation.
He remains in custody to this day.
The attack -- our consulate can't be blamed on -- reprehensible video insulting Islam.
By October the Republican presidential ticket is -- President Obama hard saying he's ducking responsibility for the attack America all the time.
Hit -- we talked about it let me go about -- October 16 at the second presidential debate Romney and Obama face off.
They highlight the now familiar charges and countercharges.
Over whether President Obama took the -- does he attack and by implication the Islamic terror threat in general.
So as soon as we found -- -- the -- -- consulate was being -- I was on the phone with my national security team the president.
The day after that happened flies to Las Vegas for political fundraisers the day after the attack governor.
I stood in the Rose Garden.
And I told the American people that this was an act of terror.
And the suggestion that anybody in my -- looked like politics or mislead.
When we lost -- of our own governor.
France took the president fourteen days before he called the attack and -- -- an active chair get the transfer six days later.
And it concerns Libya October 22.
The final presidential debate governor Romney you said this -- us an example of an American policy in the Middle East that is on grappling but if.
Anyone was hoping to see another Donnybrook over being Ghazi they would be disappointed.
We see an -- -- And Libya.
An attack apparently by I think we know now by terrorists -- -- whatever the reasons both candidates seem ready to move on.
Well my first job as commander in chief Bob let's keep the American people safe.
And that's what we've done over the last four years the story however is not going away.
-- the terrorist attack -- Ben Ghazi have been prevented.
Couldn't have been stopped.
-- reported investigates.
After the break.
On September 12 20124.
Americans died in -- guns.
This week brought a new set of questions.
Among them should the military have responded more quickly and forcefully.
Or was that impossible under the circumstances.
October 24 the state -- We are intent crime.
Figuring out who did this and bringing perpetrators to justice but I'm not gonna get into the details details are trickling out a suspect jailed in Tunisia.
Another killed by Egyptian police.
Another identified but still free in -- gossip.
Meantime a number of former national security officials from Republican administrations to be sure.
Start asking questions about the response to the attack.
You don't just passively allow Americans to remain under attack for eight hours of time when you -- forces within range.
And do nothing one -- bud -- National security advisor to president -- secretary of defense was in the White House at 5 o'clock.
Without an hour of when the attacks started he could have told him yes we have special operations people.
-- -- -- That could be deployed right away to have known what he had available to have known that Americans were under fire and to have done nothing.
-- dereliction of duty that I have never seen in a president of any party.
As pretty strong stuff will -- it is strong.
I wouldn't say that if there was any ambiguity about the conditions on the ground.
But there really wasn't Americans were being killed you must respond that is your -- you're the commander in chief.
There's a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking going on here.
October 25 Defense Secretary Leon Panetta response to the growing chorus of criticism basic principle is.
That you don't deploy forces.
Into harm's way.
Without -- What's going -- without having some real time information.
About what's taking place and -- declined our request for an interview -- national security advisor Tom Donnelly.
It's an -- -- Fox -- particularly the question about it got.
In fact -- special reports investigates interview request for any White House official.
Went unanswered when Harry Potter but also the one we can -- via suddenly.
So we turn to former congressman Joseph stack -- Pennsylvania Democrat who's also a retired three star -- The F sixteens and special forces and the navy destroyers were in the name of the program because -- -- there and would have people from the -- with the community transport move them over there.
You have a whole scheme of things to work well I've read these accounts and I think people -- there would have done anything to get there.
But it does take some point.
On October 26 the father of former navy seal Tyrone Willits who was killed in action at the annex in Ben Ghazi.
-- on Fox News America line.
To respond to reports that the CIA operators.
Requested help during the firefight.
And were denied -- Those people who they believe decision.
And who knew about decision lied about it.
-- -- -- -- -- And then President Obama does an interview with a local Denver reporter.
Where they denied -- request for help during the attack.
While we are we are finding out exactly what happened I guarantee you that.
Everybody in the State Department our military.
The CIA you name it had number one priority making sure that people were safe these are folks find it astounding.
I find it -- lack of leadership Republican Senator John McCain says the military should've been prepared to respond long ago.
Why in the world after two previous attacks on the embassy.
Security even -- alarms being sounded by the ambassador on September 11.
Why wouldn't we have our forces on alert status so that they could respond you think the White House is covering something.
I think there either grossly incompetent or covering.
And I don't know which is worse.
In the 2008 democratic primary candidate Hillary Clinton famously ran her at 3 AM -- Its message was simple late at night when the rest of us are safely asleep.
It's the president who gets the call when a crisis erupts in the world.
And it's that president who must decide what to do.
It's impossible to know what would've happened in Libya if we done things differently.
It seems painfully clear though that not enough was done before during or after the attack in Ben Ghazi.
To make -- truly feel safe.
In this dangerous world.
That's our program.
I'm -- there -- watch.
