And a personal story segment tonight Artur Davis a former democratic congressmen and co chair of the 2008 Obama campaign.

Gave a rousing speech at the Republican Convention this year after switching parties.

He joins me now -- insight on why Romney lost and what the GOP needs to do moving forward.

It's great to see you for thank you lord of the salons.

A lot of post post mortem is going on -- -- exit you know we're all like coroners examining the patient you know -- the cause of death of this campaign the what does it.

You know this is a conversation Republicans ought to be having because we've got some work to do.

We have the lowest numbers with Latinos than we've had some sort of an exit polls in the -- we've lost Virginia.

Because of the gender gap we loss Ohio Michigan Wisconsin and Pennsylvania because we couldn't close the deal.

With blue collar workers -- been victimized by the Obama to come in the last four years.

I'm not gonna pretend -- you if there's one thing that we can do and I don't think it's a matter of moving left or senators opposed to being on the right.

But we've got to be the reform party.

We've got to talk about education reform we will talk about market based approach and -- health care substance have conservative.

Prosper and we have to -- yeah Hibernia is part of our people we've got to be in the ideas party and you can't sell ideas and to you come up with them -- as you know there are a lot of people who have been working in the conservative ranks last -- for years coming up with good creative -- Some of the best ideas on dealing with foreclosures are ideas that Republicans -- conservatives come up well.

We don't really talk about -- in this campaign some of the best ideas and expanding the middle class and growing middle class upper mobility.

Conservatives have been talking about those things but we frankly haven't found a way to translate them into our camp.

And that's our tour also the same time we we can't avoid it back.

Examining how this campaign was around we find out that this or -- project which was to get out the vote.

And measure the demographics group and millions of dollars poured into this.

It was a disaster apparently they got basic calculations wrong sure basic projections wrong.

I mean if it doesn't hurt your political will -- political negligence -- -- -- recklessness.

No question bad numbers and millions of Republicans didn't vote millions of Republicans did -- did not turn out about bad numbers.

-- floating around not just the Romney campaign for the folks -- Fridays but let's not kid ourselves.

We lost this election because more people distrust of Republicans and distrust of Barack Obama.

We've got to fix that because Barack Obama -- the next four years is going to work very hard to consolidate his gains.

And put them beyond the reach of one election he's -- try to raid against the we'll take a generation to reverse our shirt.

At 2010 for instance -- Republicans grew the movement.

Appealed to people across the board gender gap.

Was there not a significant -- I was it's a mid term election but nevertheless it was a transformative.

Election.

We had winds and -- the governorships with 29 Republican governorships.

Today I believe that the number.

We have -- with two Latino governors we have more female governor senate Democrats states are engines of growth and opportunity.

And that's it that's it that's -- substantive argument.

You know we get into -- -- ten and 2010 we managed to take the Tea Party insurgent energy and Marion up with the middle class platform.

And a lot of care though that Obama down -- mayor senator that Tea Party or at all enough about obamacare the rock -- ever talked about it on our nanny issue that we as a party left off the table 50%.

Corner exit polls.

50%.

Of voters on Tuesday.

Want to repeal Obama care about is there however take a little ticket again relevant -- -- We left some of those votes on the table -- as we didn't talk enough about it.

But in twenty its hand we managed to frankly reach out to working class middle income voters and the convince them -- we have a plan to -- process.

Not African American voters -- -- that's such a vexing problem for Republicans but again.

I'm Mike when his golden go to African American.

Neighborhoods go to community centers don't just let -- They're the NAACP meeting as a reality there -- two groups who appear to be off limits right now -- -- -- both sides.

African Americans are off limits for Republicans southern white evangelicals -- off limits for Democrats combination of ideology and identity.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
