This is a factor follow up segment tonight -- -- senator Marco Rubio are rising star in the Republican ranks.

-- headline a fund raiser for Iowa governor Terry Branstad next week and -- Moines.

Q 2016 presidential race speculation joining me now somebody knows a little bit about travels to -- wind.

From New York to discuss that is former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee who hosts is very own show right here an FNC Saturdays at 8 PM.

All right gov combined you made a few trips yourself style I remember those days the last hundred Sharon you -- that so what do we what do we make of this -- -- well you know I think.

First of all let's keep in mind Marco Rubio is one of the rising stars of the party and not just rising he is a star in the party and rightfully so.

He's one -- -- must articulate thoughtful.

And effective spokesperson.

I -- Marco he was my Florida chairman when I ran for president.

I was one of the first people endorse and I told people keep your eyes on this guy he's going places and I think he has but look Iowa and New Hampshire are states in which once they.

Sort of sniff around and find out that there's somebody who might be somebody on the national stage got to pay attention to.

They will get invited to Iowa and to New Hampshire it's not only an opportunity for the people -- those early states to check out those individuals.

-- a chance for those people ago for a purpose totally other than running for president but at least get their feet on the ground in those states I think that's what Marco Rubio is up to.

Governor a lot of conservatives are talking of course about what happened in how to move forward what lessons we can learn and finger pointing for sure but some introspection.

And so moving forward I'd into this next season -- believe it -- not that I has already begun high bank.

I don't conservatives need to pretty quickly.

Coalesce not this week not next month but fairly quickly coalesce.

Behind the one person -- the establishment candidate wins again I mean you ran -- to that.

When you ran it last time our -- all these people one after the other got in the race jumped out of the race.

And now a lot of us are saying OK well expect Mitt Romney to get the nomination and I like governor Romney a lot but the conservatives felt like we didn't have our guy.

Well I don't think it's gonna happen any time soon because you're gonna have a dozen or more conservatives all of whom think that there that person.

And it needs just you know shake itself out and the best way for that to happen is to have a primary.

The problem is is that when the process.

Of the primary becomes fratricide where everybody each each other alive.

It's usually the person who has the most money and who's been out of the longest with the most.

Reaches into the establishment of the party's gonna win.

And that's you know something that's gonna happen to us so.

I don't think however that we need to punish ourselves and say oh we were too conservative.

That is not why we lost.

You I don't think it was even a message election Laura I think it was largely that we were out mobilized.

Barack Obama turned down his voters.

And for whatever reason we just didn't.

And -- daughters aren't inspired for some reason millions upon millions of Republican voters stayed home.

Governor and and and people like Gingrich and Santorum.

Go to war or warning about that last year I mean it's always easy to look back and hindsight is -- funny but a lot of them more concerned.

That -- more establishment type -- Mitt Romney would not they do that type of aggressive messaging on conservative issues.

That's for instance one -- 18 -- and that.

That -- been so successful in various governors races as well.

Two things no -- mentioned first you know I do wanna say I think Mitt Romney gave it is very best he worked hard he worked his -- out.

I've got no criticisms of Mitt Romney and if anybody you don't want to criticize Mitt Romney he was my.

Opponent for years ago when we both ran.

Yeah I could probably find a way to do it but I'm not going to and I worked hard for him because he was the nominee I think that's what we do is Republicans once we get a nominee.

We close in the ranks -- we help them.

-- we also learned from -- campaigns that failed and he did he he didn't get as many of the Mormon vote.

As John McCain did governor I mean -- it's I don't think being nice is really it's kind of -- -- we're beyond kind of -- at this point on my ignited against organized I know -- if I get the Mormon vote in the same numbers as John McCain some then it was really wrong with this campaign.

And I like I like him very much -- -- and it's delightful I love the bushes and -- these people are wonderful people.

But it's been wonderful and running a great campaign may -- -- two different things sometimes.

Well one of the problems that the conservatives have they continue to want to perfect candidate and they're not gonna get one.

-- you know and and that's one of the reasons they don't get a perfect candidate so -- they say well I'm not gonna help anybody when conservatives will give money.

And they will actually give their energy and they will accept the fact that whatever candidate they support will have some flaws he won't be perfect but this.

I think push to perfection.

Ends up leading to -- thing but.

If you really think that's what a lot of that push to perfection are well I'll tell -- relying -- actually had some major problem what I wanted to project I had archive project hundreds of millions of dollars were raised by.

Third party groups that ended up returning very little on their investment that was.

-- -- place but I but I can still tell you that one of the issues we have is that we tend to be the most punishing.

Party when it comes to anyone.

Who takes a position has an issue that may not just assumed everybody well we've got to get over that -- Democrats come together.

I and they close in the ranks and they all you know.

I don't inspire people within our item and that's the -- that they inspiration getting people excited about you it's not.

The people aren't close to drag you over the finish line you're supposed to drag the people all right here politician.

That's what you -- -- example governor.

I'm so successful in doing the talk show now I'm not fresh outlook and -- -- -- in good company governor giving you drank a cup.
