Meanwhile finding a job and -- somewhat tough economy can be a challenge especially for our nation's vets.

That's why we're joined today by lieutenant general Howard Romberg who's the deputy chief of staff of the army -- transit systems.

General welcome -- well FOX & Friends good to have you here.

Well good morning and thank you for having me -- to -- great opportunities to please get -- -- celebrate veterans weekend.

-- -- here to talk about our great soldiers and veterans that are being done for the nation you know what things are so much what -- they were back in the you know Vietnam era we like our vets we like when they come home we wanna get them jobs how do we get them jobs.

Why I gotta tell you we've -- really stepped up this year particularly if you look at.

The veterans' doctor to work that we've revitalize our transition programs.

-- twelve months -- -- soldiers and some mandatory for me of commanders involved with the program now.

We're looking at making soldiers -- we will make sort of career ready so they have that time during the twelve months before -- decided transition.

To get prepared -- some sort of -- three years some soldiers State's thirty years but no longer no matter how long they stay with us their soldiers and our soldiers for life.

We're committed to helping them make their transition to civilian society getting a job working with medical.

Facilities whatever the case may be to make their transition as smooth and easy ones that were all about future.

Let's go through some of the numbers the latest November 2008.

Unemployment rate for all veterans was five point 2% up.

To six point 3% some might look at that and say what's better than the general population but look at this.

Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and north of 10% unemployment.

Perhaps the most important thing for you to market would be those skills.

That veterans possess that what you do overseas how does that translate and how might that help employers here at home.

-- absolutely first of all our soldiers are extremely strong well trained.

They bring adaptable skills.

They're good they're good employers as far as -- on time to work their drug free this does the things that they -- in the military leadership.

Team work.

Values those the types of things -- our soldiers branches to both communities to help make community stronger as well storm and importers.

-- -- -- -- that we're working on starting in the first -- several pilots going on our information technology.

Specialists are medical specialists are truck drivers.

Our welders or construction -- personal.

We're doing pilots to transition those military training skills you know this is -- -- -- are getting great support from industry to do that.

As -- from veterans affairs an apartment whenever.

I think these pilots to make a very smooth transition for sure people just see the value.

What soldiers bring to -- the communities and the work.
