Fox's national security analysts KT McFarland joins me now KT.

Welcome good morning -- know you have you've known General Petraeus for some time.

What was your reaction to all of this and what about what Peter King brings out.

Weis got a very good part -- mean there's something really weird about this first of all when I was with General Petraeus Afghanistan.

Just before he got the CIA -- job offer the announcement when he went from the army to the CIA.

He would have had that undergo another investigation security clearance investigation even -- had a high security clearances.

The CIA would have had its -- they also would have had to -- a polygraph test standard procedure.

For anybody going into the CIA in the first question they ask you is is there anything we don't know about in your past that could be a -- -- course that is our cause an embarrassment.

That would have come out that was eighteen months ago.

So somebody.

In the personnel department of -- White House or the FBI or at the CIA at a very high level would've known about this alleged affair so why is it for so long why all of a sudden have a come out.

And at the FBI is investigating the head of the CIA.

You've got to believe that somebody in there about high level in the White House and -- the FBI were made aware of this because.

You don't investigate one cabinet officer investigating another without the president knowing.

But what do you make of the issue of the friction between these two agencies -- tape.

Well and there may -- historical friction but I wouldn't -- that's not what's going on here on their part to professional both of those agencies.

To have that kind of an issue I'd like to know -- why.

The -- at the highest levels this was not dealt with earlier on and why all of a sudden a few days before Petraeus is set to testify.

About what he knew about -- -- and what the CIA dad it just doesn't make sense and -- I going back to two weeks ago there was that statement released by the CIA.

Apparently at Petraeus is suggestions saying.

The CIA had no time at any level denied security.

And reinforcement -- and didn't try to save it sound so if that was the case.

Which has an awful lot to tell what I think it's important right now to come out publicly talk about what.

You know that raises a question I mean he you know did did he.

No this was gonna come out and he wanted to come out now did does he want to go in there and -- at that table and explain exactly what he knows about that situation.

We spoke to members of congress who came out of the hearing with him.

And they more perplexed KT yeah they didn't understand why Petraeus.

Whoever was -- a man of such great integrity.

Would have been promoting this idea that it hinged on the movie.

Well that's why it's important that he testifies whether he's in office or not and I'm not gonna speculate on what scenario -- Vance did the White House now and try to.

Get him to change his testimony did he come out.

And talk about the affair so that he would be able to resign who -- it's.

That's why it's so important to have open hearings in congress so the American public now -- -- the entire record straight they're too many unanswered questions and -- I just going back to Watergate I was in the White House -- Watergate.

It is horrible what happens to a government.

I'm in an administration when there's that drip drip drip of more information there is paralysis.

And we do not need paralysis in Washington anymore and where.

Bankruptcy it's worth noting we looked this up this morning I was curious if any of those members who testified -- Watergate had already resigned and indeed Haldeman Ehrlichman had both to resign right before they went in there and we're compelled to testify about what they -- So there's no reason for General Petraeus not to be part of this investigation.

And these -- -- -- I completely agree he needs to set the record straight for his own good.
