So how is this scandal and the general's resignation going to affect the war on terror joining us now retired major general Bob scales who is a Fox News military analyst.

And before we start general scales -- happy veterans day to you thank you so much for your service to our country.

And thanks to all the men and women who keep this country safe and great General Petraeus someone I know that you have had a a lot of respect for.

So much to cover here in the war on terror how does this affect if at all our ability to keep the country safe.

No Rick I think it affects it enormously and I think that's one of the issues that's been missing.

In this most recent dialogue.

-- Petraeus is so uniquely qualified.

To continue the war.

Remember now once we pull American soldiers out of Afghanistan we're going to create a vacuum that can only be filled.

By special operating forces -- clandestine forces under the control of the CIA.

And Dave is one of those few people that has military experience he has.

The wisdom to understand the region he's been involved in this war actively for ten years he understands how to apply.

Military force better than probably anyone else on the planet and and at this critical time as we begin to withdraw.

Are active participation in this war to have -- walk off the stage I think is a great hit to national.

Can't we just -- -- Kelley writes reporting a little clip.

Of a speech to -- abroad well the other element in this story gave to university students talking about the big guys -- attack.

What is being done to make sure.

That she does not have access to does not know certain information or intelligence that she could then use if she wanted to or someone who's close to her to do harm to the United States.

Well I also know Paula.

And she would do that.

Paula.

Is is a friend she and I have consulted on various things over the over the years and she's a patriot.

I don't know anything about how she got access to classified material I seriously doubt if she got it from -- If she did but.

I wouldn't be I think they're far more things to worry about in the national security arena rather than how Paula got access to classified material right.

On Ben Ghazi general scales we're about to have congressional hearings.

We heard that there's still a chance that General Petraeus could be.

Testify it could be called to testify subpoenaed to testify does this story have any impact on us getting to the bottom of what happened.

At the consulate and -- -- Yeah I.

And I think eventually Dave will testify in some ways I think -- too soon.

I think what's important with the Petraeus -- money right now is to get their affairs in order.

This is as much about holly Petraeus as it is about -- I think he should be given some quiet time 222.

Reflected too.

I that connect with his family and we have time.

The day will come when -- will testify probably sooner rather than later but I don't think we should push him to do it by -- You you wrote a piece recently that called General Petraeus he said that he should be the model.

From which all future generals are cut.

You still feel that way right.

I absolutely do I think I college Petraeus model because he's that.

He is the personal embodiment of the soldier scholar the the the warrior intellectual the type of general that we needed if you choose not only.

Competent the tactical and operational level but he's a genius at the strategic level you don't get there without studying your profession without going to they.

Military school without teaching at our military system without reflecting on your profession over many years as well as mixing it.

-- operational assignments and I think the model of Dave Petraeus as we go forward.

Needs to be the model for our entire military in the future -- can he make a comeback.

Well gosh of course you care for his talents are far too valuable to the nation to let this interfere with -- long term.

And the nation needs Dave Petraeus because as I said to you at the beginning of this interview he's got -- special talents of being a scholar.

A warrior and intellect and a soldier that very very few that are -- did in our.

Military profession possess -- great insight as always for major general Bob scales general scales thanks so much.
