The sudden resignation of CIA director David Petraeus sparking an avalanche of coverage.

By the news media raising a lot of questions reporters jumping all over the story and for good reason of course it's quite a story.

But now it's forcing them take a look at the terrorist attack and -- godsey is story that a lot of those.

In the same media outlets were ignoring in the weeks leading up to the election.

Jim Pinkerton is a contributing editor and writer for the American conservative magazine Alan Colmes is host of the Alan Colmes radio show and his latest book.

It's called thank the liberals for saving American gentlemen good to see you and -- you first I'm always a little wary of stories that break on a Friday afternoon.

Especially on the a couple of days after a presidential election what do you make of the timing and what do you make of the coverage so far.

Well I mean if it's it's pretty amazing that a story listener Ron Kessler -- As Mac says that the FBI was on the this in the spring.

Pepper spraying is a minimum of -- for a half months ago.

And how they managed to keep it quiet I mean Mike Baker was on this fox -- while ago so listeners is no way that the FBI wouldn't have to fill another patella did what they're up to and -- -- is pretty much said the same thing.

So it is to -- a mysterious to me how.

They -- keep this investigation -- from from apparently if we're to believe the administration the Director of National Intelligence mr.

-- Eric Holder the president disarmament I try to kind of amazing they managed to keep it secret from them and then.

Nonetheless get rid of Petraeus before -- hearing on on Capitol Hill this coming Thursday well he -- still testify that's been talked about over the last.

Day or so but -- genuine surprises.

In the news business is so rare these days and yet Friday at around 3 o'clock this was one of them how do you think the coverage has been so far.

-- with a lot we don't know I mean you know it's not just the FBI -- may have known of the CIA and who knows that the White House knew but Eric Cantor.

Is saying that he knew his office is saying that he knew.

So the Republicans -- -- well and they didn't come forward with -- so the question is was there a broader effort not just democratically.

But also on the Republican side to keep this quiet until after the election I think there's so many things we don't know -- under the media.

Is trying to get of those answers.

-- Jim what about the fact that this is someone General Petraeus who is.

Universally revered by Democrats and Republicans alike how has that had an impact on the coverage.

Why I think that that obviously has helped him.

Of course is that what -- detractors as well I mean Michael Hastings in Rolling Stone -- written extensively on him and and not at all.

From fondly -- -- it looked.

There's -- Talented writers and a lot of questions what what has been mysterious all along has been the complete lack of mainstream media interest in the bank -- seven is Catherine said.

General Petraeus was part of the group saying -- immediately after the attack in September that way and -- like a -- -- -- -- and then.

If you remember that's the -- Thursday before the elections go back you know two weeks now.

The the CIA briefed every reporter in town about how after the CIA did a wonderful job as the episode appeared.

That was immediately Petraeus took the administration line that it was a flash mob murders were random but demonstrated violence and then.

-- as -- boiling water crept up to his neck on the they've been got a staff credential actually losing guys they're great job that might have been the trigger that made the administration to look we've done -- this guy anymore is no longer on the team guys let's switch gears for a second because we've got.

Stories today and we heard one from Eric -- a few minutes ago about Allen -- attempts to get a full accounting of all of the early ballots down in Florida he says the numbers in his congressional contest just don't add up -- he's behind by a slight margin and then you have the number good turnout number in Philadelphia -- and -- historic.

-- That were also reporting on here at fox today -- James Rosen is on that story Alan.

The media so.

Sort of quick to jump on the story that President Obama has won a second term is the mainstream media -- the mainstream media ignoring some of these other.

Election or related story this is there any question that he won a second term we we question whether it actually won the second third and let me -- -- -- is like this denial -- -- and I'll stop come up.

In terms of Allen west he's outside the margin of error Allen west can't and I can see the election.

I mean there's no question that -- less -- buses -- well let's move on and you know the right wing is gonna have to accept that they lost this election on many many levels.

-- -- -- -- -- been there I gotta say they have now alas lost to -- -- I'm not totally shocked frankly again and look.

I'll vote fraud as a continuing to get to continue important issue and Philadelphia is no better place just as -- study vote fraud is John fund.

Has written about extensively in -- -- including a book called stealing elections.

I would be more focused on -- the -- -- -- -- almost no convictions -- voter fraud over the last decade at the voting -- to normally happens when you register and the only -- we saw this election was a Republican -- firm that's kind of ironic given that they're the ones have been -- voter fraud in accurately a Democrat general we're gonna spend it worked out almost almost no convictions good words good -- talent and jam.

Always nice to talk to -- things get much.
