Good morning welcome -- political insiders we have more from campaign insiders to political insiders it is the same.
Pat Caddell in the middle -- Doug -- I'm probably -- we love being with you every Monday at 1030 on live dot foxnews.com.
And every Sunday.
At 530 on the Fox News Channel and we are now from now on going to be called political insiders -- the campaigns over but not for long because.
Campaigns will be beginning soon -- by the second half of today's show will be talking about.
John I'm ready to start there and I'm sure you are but I think we should wait you're right.
Can we give it twelve -- I I I don't give it twelve minutes but no more it's a -- and pat what we thought -- look ahead first to this first week.
After the election at two big events that are coming and an ongoing event -- benefit.
First is the congressional hearings in both the senate and the house on bank Gaza.
Which brings us to the General Petraeus unfolding scandal and not to get into the sex part of it but the political part of it.
What are the political rental for my -- and was skipped the sex part that's the best or we'll come home.
-- the sex part under the desk we don't really know much but what we do know is seriously that the timeline for this thing has raised questions to travel a -- Let me start off mr.
to -- frankly has been more articulate -- comprehensive.
In his analysis of Libya and its implications for the election than any single commentator.
On any network anywhere and I I I -- to furnish him on that but I'm gonna be presumptuous enough to set the stage and then -- pat and obviously you to comment.
This was an issue that was not -- at all during the election campaign we went from a feel home.
We went from.
A perhaps a terrorist attack.
Two well was it terrorist attack had said -- the day after but maybe I was not being specific but I was being specific.
To the good the governor deciding to punt on the issue because he was afraid that -- the mainstream media or Obama would take him down.
But there are as mr.
to -- has compellingly.
Argued unanswered questions.
With General Petraeus now.
Being in the scandal with the FBI having investigated them.
The question and it's a real question is what did -- know when did -- know it and there's a new report today.
That the purpose for the operation was in fact to -- that the terrorist -- I think if I read it correctly.
Prisoners being held on the CIA compound.
I don't know if that is true or not but bottom line there's so many unanswered questions I'm curious pat your reaction as we -- well my reaction is -- -- Before the election news.
The Romney campaign having given this issue way in the third debate by taking a dive because they believe they have the election one -- And therefore do nothing that would take away from what they thought was.
Decided not to raise the nation's I think -- two would -- -- -- at the time we discussed of which who's the president's leadership is.
Is the question transparency.
And by the way would have been an interest -- counter to what he would he would have been on the defense of office.
The media was given the -- -- me was given a license not to cover the story because Romney wouldn't mention.
Only to do was -- you know.
The problem with it is is that would get Americans.
We -- they weren't -- didn't ask for security before we don't understand.
We know -- -- lot of things happened at the embassy were not true the order how they happen we know they were being watched in real time.
We do know -- we know who we were given a fictional.
The big a cover up story about those who -- Susan Rice the White House.
That it was a video sponsored revolt.
That the -- grabbed -- hold and we do know that the person who made that video on some other pretext is in prison.
So much for free speech in this country that no matter how all -- and they can for violating parole here in the camp so.
This is there's been very -- -- most important one is.
Is it was clear would come out decisive before after the election Bob Woodward -- -- who's been the single bit of white male I have admired over the years.
Who's been the single biggest dog that hasn't barked and -- Announces yesterday on TV that there have been Ghazi by the Pentagon we just spectacular revelations.
That it's blowing up.
Then we have a Petraeus incident and I gotta tell you something if you people out there and I'll say for the record.
Look I can see the guys being set up football.
The guy that's being set up for diversion always -- diverted to Petraeus diverged whatever scandal this whole thing smells.
-- -- and it is amazing that we have the election on Tuesday.
General clapper who is nominally Petraeus is Foster Director of National Intelligence is if anyone on -- understand a -- of calm down.
Okay -- -- and Tom -- -- Philippine national security so that -- none of this comes out we have Election Day going on the if you believe the time line general clapper is informed.
-- -- on Tuesday on Wednesday Donald tells the president is on his way back from Chicago.
On Thursday Petraeus comes to see the president offers to resign.
How -- all this is right after Election Day less -- -- -- grow.
-- That are not -- -- this shot at an -- and again that comes out Wednesday as well now.
All this stuff that you revelation height yeah during the campaign.
It had nothing do really with the politics and I could care less about Romney's campaign -- gonna get to that but the fact views.
That -- in the press decides whose job in New York Times.
The Washington Post and I've just named Bob Woodward -- So when I've admired -- why am shocked it is certainly a lot different than it was forty years ago during Watergate when he was a young republic reporter.
Ended but the press has been very similar.
They are covering up -- in New York Times and network.
CBS having the president would Doug alluded.
Having the present the day after the attack.
-- -- -- -- That he thought it was an attack and held it eighteen days or whatever several weeks.
To lead just before the election before they release it they finally gets out on the -- on their web site.
I mean what kind of yourself is this except an effort.
To what I believe is very dangerous.
When the press decides that it must help reelect in and anybody elect anyone -- worsen reelected incumbent in the airport suppression and and I are.
So we have that if you'd like to send comments please send an animal will try to answer them on the -- now the other thing this week.
And then after the break we're gonna look at the election that just happen and what we think went on there but.
The other event and is on Friday the president has invited the entire congressional leadership up to the White House to begin.
Talking again about how to avoid the fiscal cliff.
And we have just to mention the issue you see more more Republicans now raising the issue of may be.
We would be willing to change tax rates on the rich or do such -- Bill Kristol on Fox News FOX News Sunday yesterday said that.
That they wire we holding out for millionaires half of home voted for Obama you -- my thought about six months and I -- why didn't.
You -- the thing that's so startled me -- Is there was a very simple approach for governor Romney.
Who have taken and the Republicans.
Got one of elevated the brand had a message and address what patent you and I have talked about during the campaign which is offering a clear alternative.
Had the Republicans -- look we're for lowering rates limiting.
Deductions we want -- pro growth policy we want to put everything on the table to get our house in order I have a plan B doesn't.
He just wants to raise taxes on the rich I wanna lower rates and stimulate the economy.
Have there been an alternative narrative I think the Republicans would have had something to run instead.
What has happened is we're now heading towards a collision.
Both sides -- nothing.
On the table the Republicans.
Has -- -- maybe backing off their position on taxes maybe not.
But clearly the American people look at this and say this is ridiculous.
-- got I totally agree -- -- -- Chris the promise we've been saying this for months you know I never understood why the Republicans blocked and we'll move on the bush tax cuts for the rich.
But this is April.
The Republican instinct to defend the regional calls.
To -- Wall Street.
Which in 2008.
And -- was really -- to be giving huge amounts of money most of its money to Democrats and to -- And until Obama started packing them out of convenience.
And it would build those people you know who bailouts are very unpopular.
So when Newt Gingrich -- being capital which would become fatal in -- way.
Through the image of Obama to -- running.
And and I think -- Governor Perry jumped -- the Republicans as the party united around the idea of defending.
Any -- you about the -- same thing -- taxes.
They -- said we'll put everything on the table.
-- -- -- didn't end you know what I go to blows and I said this at the time.
Why don't they come -- they -- raise taxes a higher rate from going lower rates -- -- and you're ready for millionaires.
But people make a million dollars or more -- -- they would have bought themselves so they are going against their own type of goal against their -- I have to say.
-- -- willing to put -- this on the table but we're gonna cut -- exemptions whatever.
And it would have been but that they would have bought.
Themselves something -- Douglas go back from active against two -- are there really good from GL one set us.
We have these emails photos and tape phone conversations we can easily make -- -- way.
If you agree that Ben -- was an intelligence failure on behalf of the CIA.
What do you say.
The FBI would have been remiss.
To not have known he was having the affair as latest 111 during the vetting process for CIA director.
And the FBI would have also told the president about the affair directly.
-- look these are all things that are coming up -- here's -- -- question I don't wanna avoid the specifics.
Of the questioners.
Allegations because it -- it's it's it's worse than idle speculation but here's what we know.
The General Petraeus.
Suggests what the problem.
Was politically but there was the CIA.
Installation there we don't quite know what they were doing.
Whether or not.
That was in any way compromised.
We don't know what General Petraeus knew.
When he knew it and we -- then the questioner is right to suggest that right now he is facing.
All sorts of competing.
Pressures his wife.
-- apparently two mistresses.
The facts as they -- are and whatever legal peril he has a mean.
What are about the same now maybe is antiquated but it's true it is against the code of conduct of the military.
To have an affair I don't -- surrounding it -- -- but but it is so.
What is eight total and complete message that the real problem -- -- was saluted here.
Is that look the one thing the administration doesn't want their two stories administration does not want pursuit.
They can blame the department because there was no security they can blame the CIA always.
But they don't want these that they know what real time it was happening.
Did the president order action be taken and who ordered to stand out apparently to stop anything to try to save those people number one.
Which is most important mr.
And secondly the other thing is who engineered to cover -- story.
And out of that -- of -- -- -- -- her belief is that this administration will go to whatever life.
To keep that to just as they did with the -- -- Remember the great leaks -- investigation of that too.
Book the great lead story from coming out and I'm not unwilling to say.
They welcome this diversion and they will do everything in their power to make that the issue and -- etc.
already -- Petraeus is appalled.
Right here -- -- as Chris service one just on that point says he's taking one for the team let me ask one question.
From my experience working for President Clinton.
The amount of information that comes in in real time to the White House cannot be minimized.
Would bear that out -- I sat on the phone I mean I said in the Oval Office listening the hostages on the airplane.
Listening to the Iranian comptroller's.
And being interpreted -- On whether they have lived -- the -- -- -- on inauguration day all right that was forties that was thirty some years ago you wanna talk about real time information.
-- we're gonna have to take a break.
We are now political insiders pat -- Doug Shaun McDonald believe that we'll be right back.
Five the political insiders are back and for the second part of our show today even though it's political insiders we got to revert to the campaign about 2012.
Movie revisiting a lot which we will be revisiting a lot and and -- we have said you know how you run your campaign determines how you will govern if you win and if you're in office and Obama ran an empty campaign and you guys a year ago wrote together a piece in the Wall Street Journal about.
Projected path to reelection which should be just the nuke that Republicans.
Win but it would be an empty victory that he would have nothing to him to run the country -- is that what we're looking at coming out of last week.
You know being first in the polls so the president was obviously to compromise I thought the speech.
On election night was a good speech step in the right direction.
But by the end of last week -- back to the positions of the campaign so Johnny answered your question is I don't see any real inclination.
In the president and the Democrats and the Republicans for that matter to reach some kind of compromises.
That we need.
The Republicans are talking about a compromise and malls tax rates to Democrats are flat out saying.
We want we want tax on rich people in my answers government really want.
But but but -- sitting here -- -- the point is we have the president ran a campaign as we said.
It would so good to be did this of that the country could not be unified he turned this into an identity of politics -- -- -- war is what you warm -- you believe the Romney campaign let that happen let's not.
Take -- away from the Republicans but essentially divided even went from hope and change to what Doug and I wrote divide and conquer.
And there is a consequence for dividing congress even when -- Artists and that's what he did and he did win the Republicans lost a terrible humiliating defeat president lost two or three -- early in the senate.
While some seats in the house.
Have lost five of the last six presidential campaigns in the popular vote.
The trend line is bad for Republicans.
So the question I ask is did Obama win or did the Republicans lose what.
-- -- better when personal Paul let me just say remember what Armonk treated bin -- I kept some -- -- the real quick if Romney's campaign to election to lose and he's losing it.
Until we're ninety minutes of brilliance in the first debate recently little islands surrounded -- confidence.
In and Mel judgment.
Look you would Satan Obama won and yes he did he you've got to give them credit they've got to bowed out they've really built into that system.
The negative to what they didn't have a positive messages were -- said he could've -- this is a lot more legitimately.
He wanted basically on.
The other guys a liar and it Natalie widow and a murderer and a cellular and a tax cheat and that -- let himself be portrayed because I had no positive image of self appointed.
That the thing was this was Republicans to win and they blow it there is no other way around it's that you say.
In the political last night.
A new article about the Republican polls and about the Obama Romney internal polling operation US EE into election night.
The Romney polls showed Romney winning an election and they were shocked you know you've been both consumer a poll of polls of observer.
Poke holes and an analyst pat on are obviously -- -- commissioner available -- candidates using humor to that is consumer.
That's what I that's right right.
Consumer -- I have obviously have sadly been up by about eighty years of experience.
Rule of thumb as a pollster.
As a professional.
Look there is no absolute truth in this business we know that.
But you use your best judgment and the best assumptions you can make but the first thing you you do is you never ever.
Go on and say to a client.
Based on rosy assumptions you're gonna win when it isn't clear or there's contravene the evidence so the fact that -- new house.
Came out with polls saying the Romney who's gonna win based on.
God knows what a model a model a model like modeling which existed in their head.
Is -- I would tell you our prediction certainly mind of Obama was based on looking at how hard headed way at every poll that had come out.
The weighted averages and -- analyses.
And -- could not come up with a way.
Of seeing how Romney was gonna win but four of the poles being completely wrong which they obviously weren't so I I sit there and say.
Can you imagine.
People who just had a collective sense of disorientation.
With the presidency of the United States in control and the US senate -- it is.
Is a campaign that was based from the beginning.
On -- premise by the campaign strategist Stu Stevens.
Who was I had no more business being bat and I do sprouting wings and -- the bloom and pat I've heard that you are performing next week.
The obviously will be in Palm Beach -- here and you speak I -- not to be forgotten on the entire campaign.
A minute -- do at all.
But you know the thing is that they premise -- election we can't lose.
He's -- already all we have to do we've go through this relegated as a domination in the nomination and the anomaly along the way.
If you track what we said not to pat ourselves we'll look back.
But from the time all of this shells in them to woman who also joined it on television.
On Sundays in March.
We've laid this out over and over and over again it wasn't hard to figure out but the most important thing Doug -- -- When you're in the business I was called doctor -- -- -- in the Carter camp.
Why because my job was to look at everything from -- most conservative -- most.
Possible problems we've I have not to go around and make people feel.
You know United Nations and our next roll here next generation doctor -- will be the next villain in the next James Bond movie I don't doctor -- struck you heard.
Hello I should repeat here.
Something that David Axelrod said about -- to me.
And this is probably the highest compliment pat could get.
David Axelrod said to me Doug you know I am the same problems with some of the things and said -- written but on balance I think you know knowing -- in the past the old days.
How old they were but anyway and -- and he said mr.
-- is the single most dangerous force in American political life.
That is about as -- a compliment.
That is a good guy who don't -- goes along with -- standard -- and it's been.
I -- -- -- a compulsive truth they don't know what it for a straight hours they don't want to hear the truth the Romney campaign wanted to have a narrative.
The protected themselves -- -- what they did Hugh what blinked and let the candidate right.
This is you don't look for great management -- -- big data driven guy he should be demanded a legitimate data are it's hard it was based on the fact that you have someone.
Who had no grass who's running the advertising cleaning up from one pocket and all of them to be blunt about it all of them were cleaning up out of this campaign.
And -- other hand.
Doing a strategy who has not a strategist I've said this only -- It was like having a light colonel in charge of Normandy -- concentration.
And and that it is a tragedy for the country because the Republican Party is diminished because of this camera.
Republican Party brand that let's get to it if you lose weight is of when I called lead by what I wanna call it slow motion weak the weak party.
Which used is it keeps compressing it.
This is a disastrous election.
Leave aside the presidency the senate races you have 23 out of 33 that are democratic -- a dozen of those three in deep trouble.
And not only do you not bleed seats you actually lose two or three states.
In this election they lost seats in states like North Dakota and Montana then Romney won by a landslide so -- book of -- -- -- your point.
Don't know if Obama had somewhat short coat.
He'd kill them them.
Car -- to guess who had no.
Running a negative -- and then they have tirelessly only have a couple minutes -- close to a quick comment from policing K I don't think his campaign reflects anything close.
To what these next four years will be like except for the division part he can't run against who's gonna pull you through everything he wants to do.
We'll probably see some of those executive orders acted upon so I hear this a lot people worried well if he's gotten Kaiser got in the senate you.
From the democratic perspective.
What I think is going on from the left of the Democratic Party it's not what any of us agree with but I think it's their perspective.
President the right wing of the Republican Party is intransigent.
We won this election you've got a mandate there's a mandate not only for higher taxes but for your agenda.
And if they stop you wouldn't congress.
Just -- -- find any way you can to do you let the courts make any judgment if it is an unconstitutional but you haven't used.
The full powers of the executive office to their maximum advantage -- -- The bush maximum that the president can do anything decider in chief -- outlived -- it would you know decide to receive -- you do whatever you want.
This ground was laid down by bush the right thing imitated anybody cares about constitutional government should already be horrified at the Republicans -- -- Haven't lost the senate this president will do that I don't wanna say something about -- it with a willingness to compromise.
I listen to him election night by -- got the part about conciliation.
He was mouthing words there was no conviction and that his first thing is going to be -- won the election I get what I thought.
That's how he acts and I'll put money against anybody if -- so.
So are we headed for the first goal we don't know -- short term deal so so we're delaying the final.
-- give us to -- a slightly different answer I think there will be a short term debt.
But at a certain point in time you can't just paper over -- cancer.
-- patchwork over with a mandate so I think we are heading longer term towards a serious serious crisis that could well have calamitous and.
When I had to end but the one thing though real fast -- that which is up and wanna come back to next week.
Are we battled back together which is about the fact that -- what is missing is the party of the people.
The 70% of this country -- little worried -- non political class people I agree with you next week we're gonna.
Pick up where we left off.
Months ago the idea of another party.
Coming into the political system that 70% running against both establishment parties.
But this is our first.
Show political insiders for Doug -- packet Allen John -- we'll see you Sunday at 530 on the Fox News Channel.
And next Monday back here on foxnews.com.
Have a great week.
