I'm happy after the show showed -- -- our special friend from the march of dime not your Jennifer how those who of course is the president of the March of -- good to see you again good to see -- -- -- both -- -- -- Steve the day that the March of -- releases their report card for the year on how.

The nation is doing on premature births which unfortunately is a huge problem in the United States for -- developed of -- nation as we are.

To think that one an eight babies are born prematurely many times without knowing why -- Right right.

But there I wanna say there's some good news.

With the report card and that is -- on the right track.

Four states got an AA which means their rates are preterm birth are below nine point 26%.

So we know that we can do better in many states have signed de.

A formal pledge that they are going to do everything they can to reduce rates by 8% by 2014.

So there's a real national commitment.

Now with health leaders -- let's get the job done.

But there are some states that got so yes yes there are Alabama Louisiana and Mississippi are the lowest ranking.

A State's that is they have the highest rates of preterm birth.

But the leadership in those states and I traveled -- to each one of -- the leadership in those states they are absolutely committed to doing better they are putting programs.

Policies into place I think over the next down.

Year to we're gonna start to see some positive results in those states are gonna turn the corner.

-- -- -- doctor why do you think they're their grades are so low down as it hit its finances isn't it.

Well -- resources.

Yes there there they certainly have economic challenges.

But the steps that they're that they are taking to.

Up with the very best policies and and programs in place for for pregnant women and and and children.

Are also -- and I'm really convinced that they they're gonna start to showing a lot better numbers hope so.

-- 75 anniversary of March of Dimes is coming up when anything -- you'd like to do honor that on January 3 is to light the White House purple.

And that was when the Franklin Roosevelt actually signed into action star and yes -- -- 75 anniversary of the March of Dimes January 3 is the day that.

Franklin Roosevelt signed an executive order and created the March of Dimes and asked the American people to.

Give a dime to conquer polio.

And we did that we got the dimes and we conquered polio and -- we need to conquer preterm birth so -- -- 75 anniversary January 3 week.

You're allowed to send petitions to the White House to ask for these special writings.

We need signatures.

When he 25000 signatures in the next five days so.

-- -- -- dot com you can go right online and and and signed the petition would really like everybody to help.

When -- amazing things about marched on just how you've transformed kind of your mission Overton 75 years.

-- and -- so so current.

In finding what the United States quite frankly needs help what he went from polio then to birth the facts.

To this pre maturity cam -- right.

Well pre maturity it is this a very serious problem for the US we -- a 131.

Out of a 184 countries in the world.

Terms of having the highest -- the worst rates of preterm birth.

And that's the bad news certainly and we're -- very sobered by that.

The good news for the United States is that we're one of the few countries in the world.

Where rates of preterm birth are starting to come down we've we've had reductions every year for the last five years.

You heard about the examples of the good states there we know what to do now we just need to fully implement those programs -- And doctor do you think -- I'm sure you guys have sat around trying to forecast how the Affordable Care Act as an impact well.

Premature -- and and things like that going forward is it gonna help.

Folks well the most important.

Pathways for pregnant women.

Four healthy pregnancy is to get in rolled very early in good pregnancy care good maternity care and -- -- preconceptions.

Checkups.

And a lot of people don't because they can't afford it they do that's correct and so -- -- pathway gets women enrolled.

In health care is what we need to do was a country doesn't drive me crazy when you hear celebrities who schedule C sections weighed before.

That the time that the babies actually fully developed.

And then that becomes sort of the cool thing to to do in society to think that on and I've been pregnant I know you wanna you wanna have the baby right.

But you are working diligently to try and get away from it.

Right it Gretchen does drive me crazy I mean -- the research is is in place very clearly shows that that baby should not be delivered collectively before 39 weeks of completed pregnancy.

And so we're working with our partners to get that word out the 39 week program ladies did not schedule.

Your elective induction since he -- -- doctors -- not schedule this off for 39 weeks of completed pregnancy.

Again and take awhile to get those programs in place the research is fairly.

Knew that that that shows how important this is.

Again we're moving in the right direction and once again if folks would like to sign the online petition to light up the White House.
