Joining us now Wyoming senator John -- so he will attend a closed briefing for the foreign relations committee about the -- Ghazi attacked.

Thank you gentlemen let's talk about this hearing for a moment before he moved to some other issues what's the goal today -- -- -- later this afternoon that you don't already know now.

This has been called in a bipartisan way for Republicans and Democrats working together we're gonna get briefed.

Today by the FBI the CIA the Department of Defense.

As well as the Department of State.

I think that this is something that could have been prevented.

The murder in the death of terrorist attack -- effective for American heroes and I when -- we're starting at the beginning is how is that this.

If these folks on the ground asked for additional help back in March in April there was an attack.

In June there was an attack.

In July they asked for additional help again denied and then their whole security team got pulled out in August and then come 9/11.

And this.

Assault occurs is terrible tragedy we wanna start there we also want to find out what happened that day that time lines don't match up.

And then how information came out.

Afterwards the misleading.

By the the UN ambassador when she went on five Sunday shows.

We want to know what the president also knew because he said the minute he found out about this he gave the directive.

To take make sure that -- are people in harm's way were protected who did he give that directive to and what was done.

General Petraeus had been criticized for giving misleading information to some -- -- -- who in their opinion felt that he was too wedded to this idea of a video.

Motivating this attack you say you believe the General Petraeus should testify at some point what is a reasonable expectation and in your mind about when you should hear from General Petraeus.

Well today's.

Briefing is the first of a number -- briefings there's going to be I would like to hear from him within the next week or so.

There's so much had to learn he has just gotten back from it from a trip over there but also what happened in real time -- because the American people have a right to know.

We have ambassadors all around the world we want to make sure that they're protected that we have the kind of military protection.

For them if they need that to protect them against terrorist attacks.

And I think the General Petraeus could add significantly to our understanding.

He was the man in charge at the time we need to hear from him.

-- -- see if that that timeline of the week or so.

Comes to -- you mention this is a bipartisan effort this committee that Iran is is about evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats but I don't have to tell you this this is really been paying.

They got the investigation as a republic and attack our republic -- investigation.

What's your sense about.

Where the Democrats on the committee stand about what answers they really want to know -- are they matching your passion and passion about the Republicans to get answers.

Chairman of the intelligence committee Dianne Feinstein has come out very actively.

Saying we need more information but from the beginning after that first briefing we had just a week and a half after the the terrorist attack.

Republicans really and and I was leading the way on this I felt that there was a cover up going on because they were so resistant and reluctant.

To give information and the information that came out.

Seem to be contradictory and misleading.

So I continued when he gets to the bottom of this of the American or Portland -- the American people need to know what happened may need to know the truth and they deserve.

Do you feel you have partnership with the Democrats on this -- otherwise to get those answers.

No I do now absolutely now that the election is over and people are focused really where the focus should have been from the beginning on the terrorist attack.

On those who had been killed lost their lives and how this could have been prevented I think we have much more buy in now from both sides of the guy.

Just a quick other question to Senator Kerry the chair.

The foreign relations committee apparently pushed to have this briefing he obviously -- Democrat high ranking.

-- there's been numerous reports have him potentially taking the position of secretary of state in the next couple years in this administration but now there's some new reports.

That potentially he could be the next secretary of defense your thoughts on that senator -- would you support that.

Well I think -- for the secretary of state position.

John Kerry would likely be easily confirmed in the senate.

They're also mentioning Susan Rice and somebody for that position.

To me she has been disqualified and actually disqualified herself.

By the statements that she made five days after the attack you need somebody with sound judgment willing to ask tough questions.

And to all of America this did not seem to be.

A spontaneous demonstration.

About a video it seemed to be a terrorist attack and that is exactly what it turned out.

-- would you support Senator Kerry as an -- Defense Secretary.

Let's see the president nominates him we'll go forward from there but I believe that secretary -- that Senator Kerry would be confirmed by the senate.

And Iraq and we look forward to hearing from you know this is that closed briefing.
