President Obama's foreign policy team facing a major reshuffling the CIA director has resigned over a sex scandal soon the president's secretary of state will be leaving.
And Defense Secretary Leon Panetta may may also be on the way out.
We don't have a confirmed yet but there are reports he's considering leaving another Washington Post is reporting that Senator John Kerry is being considered.
For the top choice at the Pentagon top job a choice that would likely bring -- some old controversies.
Cheney now Ralph Peters discussing strategic analyst and author of the book -- at Gettysburg.
And Michael -- -- who's the CEO of events -- communications and is a former senior advisor for John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign gentlemen welcome.
So I don't know who exactly who's leaving the -- name has surfaced in the Washington Post as the potential for.
May be secretary of state -- heard that before but now we're hearing may be -- secretary of defense according to the post.
And and Trish -- did a good report earlier in outlining the controversy that emerged when he ran for president Michael remembers it well.
But I want to get -- to comment on this first about your thoughts on on the and the reaction we would get if he if he were.
Nominated to that post.
Well first of all it tells you a great deal about the Obama administration.
The secretary of defense is a consolation prize but -- this would be -- of remarkable.
-- insult to the men and women in uniform.
To nominee for secretary of defense and man it.
Made his political career trashing our military criticizing it who told lies about wars and -- crimes in Vietnam.
And who more recently in your viewers heard the -- Joked about how stupid and uneducated are soldiers were I don't want to hear.
John carries a comment fatter so as Benedict Arnold.
I got your minds John Kerry got the silver star for his service in Vietnam he -- he went twice signed up volunteered twice served in the war.
This is not about running for president in about swift boating people check her be a great addition to the president's cabinet whether it's that it -- Defense Department or the State Department.
But I've known him since 1985 is never mentioned once you don't want to be secretary of defense.
And I know that the first day they got the US senate evo four relations foreign relations -- relations as its three choices.
Four which committee -- times you want me would be great addition to the president's -- it in either job.
You know he he did he won the bronze starting won the silver star and then I mean the reports were that he threw those -- over a fence in protest and a lot of Vietnam veterans -- -- protesting the war.
But but he did -- in a way that became very controversial home and our viewers may remember when he ran for president two -- for this group called a swift boat veterans church for truth.
They came out an ad that taking issue with the testimony he gave when he came back from Vietnam here's a sampling of that so we know we're talking about.
That he had personally raped.
Cut -- for years cut off hands the accusations.
John Kerry made against.
The veterans for.
It was just devastating randomly shot -- And that hurt me more than any physical wounds I hadn't cut off aliens and we -- grown -- audience.
And that was part of that torture was to sign a statement.
Committed -- crimes razed villages in the fashion reminiscent.
John Kerry -- -- it would and many of my conference.
And torture and -- yeah.
Demoralized us Ralph.
-- -- There have been questions about his military awards they got generous in Vietnam but I wasn't there I can't speak -- awards but maybe.
-- surest indication.
Of a man's character that I know.
His wife his military veteran his comrades think of it does he served -- from those who serve the needs and his subordinates.
And it is it was remarkable.
The veterans who served with Kerry came out -- Vigorously against -- because I'll tell you.
That stick together even in peacetime relative peace time Cold War vets like my friends my friends are still my best friends are still once I made in the military.
That's stick together and for them to criticize John Kerry is vociferously.
And specifically as they did.
Tells you a lot but beyond that look.
This -- to.
Here and mr.
Meehan -- that's -- name was right he doesn't want to be sec Def he wants to be secretary of state.
-- do a lot less damage there is you know that's it hot -- position.
Facets that data that's secretary stated what we had been hearing so so you know unfurled why he also -- a little surprising to see secretary -- not subject that's on here if your response to all that.
You're just made a point.
The guys that served on the boat the John Kerry was in charge of all stood with him all through 2004 they know -- the best they were actually in harm's way with him and all stood beside and so I would completely agree with the -- The bar that your guest is is saying.
The other point is that that was taken out of context he was reading a report about what was happening in wars war is not pretty it's unfair to sort of -- -- that say that it's all the truth -- pushing back.
That he was at that testimony in the seventies he was reading what others are writing about what's happening in war so I don't find that to be -- -- finally -- What will -- your thoughts on that dead.
The comment -- we're not gonna -- -- -- we ran in the last hour or entries to this report about remember he said the thing about how you go to school and get a good education and if you don't.
You wind up serving in Iraq -- a lot of vets and active duty folks took that as a real insult your thoughts on that.
Well look yes I don't think I loved John Kerry but I don't think you should be a stand up comic and I think he was trying too hard anyway -- it wasn't a good joke and it wasn't fair so -- I think he would say that some.
So you think he's gonna he want to be secretary of state Michael.
Bomb I think so yes his dad was a diplomat served -- in Europe he spent much of his younger days.
When his dad worked at the State Department he's been chairman of the senate foreign relations committee for for many years.
Obviously the President Obama asked him to deal with -- Karzai in Afghanistan and asked him to take the lead in the -- on the start treaty -- in Russia.
He'd be a huge asset to the administration -- and.
Even -- your your thoughts on that -- if he were moved over to that post as opposed to at the Pentagon.
But at least he took an interest in foreign affairs he has some knowledge of it.
But his only qualification.
To oversee the navy is it -- wind -- Maybe took some day hikes that qualifies him to oversee the army he's a high flyer thanks to his marriage show that sea air force against.
No qualifications and Marine Corps but very very seriously here's a guy has never been interested or military except to trash it.
So please don't insult our troops don't nominate this -- for secretary of defense.
All right guys listen I appreciate you both coming -- -- very different perspectives but I'm glad you were both here thanks so much.
