Obviously it's hours later there and the nightfall has been with them for many hours -- there have been a lot of incursions our correspondent there -- that -- mentioned all of -- the stories that the Israeli air force of flying in and they've hit a lot of targets today the question is what happens with ground troops and bigger picture.

How does Egypt react let's bring in Mike -- former intelligence officer.

But I mean if I'm -- 30000.

Reservists -- reportedly called up and again as you just reported the the bomb that are the missile that was sent towards Tel Aviv that's a red line for Israel.

So I think what we're gonna see here is a a dramatic escalation frankly just the last few hours it's got a lot worse.

I would have said this would be a small flare up over and a couple days but it looks to me now like it's going to be much more significant -- condemnation has come from from the egyptians and there's so much instability there and frankly.

A lot of fears.

Yeah that's right so the big player in the region has always been Egypt ever since the Camp David accords in 1979 the US has been essentially bankrolling some peace between Egypt and Israel.

But I think that you know obviously with the the Arab Spring and all the events that have happened last year now the is Muslim Brotherhood in charge in Egypt.

That that equation has changed dramatically.

The other play we have to keep an eye on his Turkey Israel and Turkey is to have very close military military relations but that stayed in the last few years as well.

So we really are seeing you know coming to fruition of this this new chess board.

In the Middle East if you well and I think it's gonna you know it's going to be very dangerous as people try to figure out.

Who the players what their motivations what are the red lines what -- their strategies I think you're gonna see a lot of up permissive activity by the egyptians they're gonna allow weapons to flow when.

As they've -- deal with Syria as well.

One of the things we have to be worried about is what -- -- -- -- to shipping through the Suez Canal are they gonna be some implications there for the US and for global trade.

So there's any number of issues that are that are significant coming to the -- -- and frankly this is unchartered territory.

The last thing Israelis want to do and they've made this clear over the years ever since there occupation of Gaza is occupied again.

That said once you get in there you you have to kind of own the thing where does the what does the United States stand on on all of this at the moment.

Well I don't think you're gonna see any daylight between Israel and in the US on this even if just for -- political domestic reasons the administration can't afford even coming off the heels of an election victory.

They can't possibly afford to allow any kind of bipartisan or you know any kind of divide based on partisan.

Maneuvers and bickering so I think the US is gonna stand very firmly by by Israel.

In in providing weapons as we historically have done in re supplying them and things like that.

But it but again and of course we we have a very active intelligence sharing program.

But you start to look also that you know the broader escalation of this is this -- way for Israel to sort of test out -- iron dome room system.

And the 300 missiles that have been -- launched -- -- just the last couple days.

What does that mean and pretend in terms of their potential strike against Iran.

-- sort of checking out there are there weapons verses the you know the Hamas and they Egyptian and potential Iranian responses.

-- that there's that history tells us that the Israeli don't -- there were Israelis don't mess around you for following the history book on how this sort of thing works going back to -- to the conflict with Lebanon and his ball -- just a few years ago.

First -- soften up the targets that the air forces in -- doing that knocking out there weapons in the rest.

Normally right on the heels of that with a history as our guide Israel moves.

-- you're actually right about that and I think this is one of situations where again there's a lot of uncertainty in the region.

And perhaps Israel look status or digitally and said you know what we need to throw the first punch we wanna get in there we -- to we wanna do a lot of damage.

Take out the weapons stockpiles take out everything we know where it is and that's why you see so many stories don't -- in bombing the missiles and things like that.

I do think it's important people to realize that they've launched 300 some rockets and Italy killed three people that does show you that Hamas is not particularly capable.

They can cause a lot of concern but they're not -- -- not very good at targeting these weapons.

But of course again Iran or Egypt may provide better weapons in the future.
