Well millions in Israel and the Gaza Strip on edge right now we've been following this developing story for -- throughout the newscast this evening as Hamas rockets rain down on cities across Israel.
For a fourth straight day and Israel's iron dome defense system.
Intercepts a rocket over Tel Aviv and now Israel massing heavy artillery and tens of thousands of troops along the shared border so.
What is the end game in this mounting conflict KT McFarland is a -- National security and -- And she joins me now with a little more insight -- -- the first question I had to -- because it as this story has developed today.
We've heard about you know -- 75009.
Dance reservists -- have been put on notice he is -- ground invasion.
How likely is that and what are the implications.
It's.
You know we're not sure whether it's likely I think Israel has a very specific objective here.
Hamas.
On the Gaza Strip has 101000 missiles now.
They have the ability to launch those -- wants.
Over a period of time or just a few every now -- -- what they're doing now just a few every now and then.
But Israel wants to make sure.
That are that they take those out why because this -- six months from now Israel wants to do a preemptive strike.
Against Iran's nuclear weapons sites Iran would retaliate.
By unleashing those 101000 missiles on.
Israel so this -- -- now and takes us out to -- isn't.
That if they -- if they want to six months from now take out.
Those nuclear sites in Iran.
They don't have to worry about the retaliating and some of these missiles that were talking about.
Then yeah Hamas is using some of them -- longer -- missiles provided by Iran exactly and that's what's new about all this.
That now they have Hamas on the Gaza Strip has the ability to reach Jerusalem.
Tel Aviv with these longer range missiles so what about Egypt -- the key -- you don't know what they're gonna do.
For forty years Israel and Egypt have not fought each other they've had a peace agreement.
But now there's a new new guy and -- -- brother -- -- it hasn't hurt in Egypt.
Guess what Hamas -- the Gaza Strip another Muslim Brotherhood -- -- like cousins to each other so Israel prime minister of Egypt just went yesterday.
To the Gaza Strip presumably was gonna try to get everybody to come down in peace agreement but I think when he was doing.
Was to say look you know if you guys do get invaded by.
Israel maybe we'll help each other so it -- you can do three things one they could open the border between Egypt.
And Gaza and let weapons flow through into Gaza the second thing that it is break that peace treaty that they've had for thirty years.
And the third thing they can do is say if there's a fight maybe they join the fight and made -- do it.
You know they would join a fight with Hamas and then you've got a bigger regional Arab Israeli war we had David Lee Miller there on the CEO out and he did report that there is possibly some -- diplomatic resolution.
Possibly in the works and that Mohamed -- had come out and said that they made some progress on the front.
So we'll say -- just hit it really the key is Israel isn't I don't want any diplomatic solution until they get that's that's life -- finally implications for the less well here's the really big implication -- we Arab ally Israel historic ally of Israel.
Their army and military is largely a US base military equipment but for the last forty years we've been a close ally of Egypt.
So we've also given them military equipment if the two of them it guests at a point I don't think it well but -- -- the part -- their fighting each other what do we do what do resupply.
-- But let me play each other American offensively supply -- the other and if so which one.
And what do you think will happen however we get -- I don't I don't -- gonna come about OK but I think if it does president Obama's gonna have a very difficult time because.
We have a historic relationship with Israel but at the same time President Obama has made it his mission.
In his presidency to reach out.
Two Muslim countries so I think that -- stuck my guess is -- us about it but never comes but in all of this that we should be watching Iran as well because this could possibly.
Escalate and open the door pave the way for Israel to attack Iran you think that this whole region we've all been focused on the Arab Spring in Iran's nuclear weapons.
Nobody's paid a darn bit of attention in his room.
But Israel looks around the neighborhood and says that we used to be bad it's got an awful lot worse McCain KT McFarland thank you so much we appreciate your insight as always -- case.
