Thanksgiving is an ideal time to remember what we do have to be thankful for -- -- holiday season -- -- highlighting several charities that are getting back.

To communities nationwide.

We are working today with the Red Cross which has been helping those affected by hurricane sandy.

Easy to Francis is the chief public affairs officer for the Red Cross welcome Stacy thanks so much for coming in today for having mission now we know Red Cross works all over the place it's not to CD that's kind of an immediate focus right now can you give us any kind of update on on how folks can help and and what is happening there surely need to -- -- up.

Eight on sandy on this has been really our largest relief effort in five years.

It's pretty massive.

We've served right now.

Six million meals and snacks we've had 75000.

People in overnight in our shelters.

This past weekend we did a huge push on cleanup kit items for them -- use in their homes.

And with the help of a lot of volunteers who just showed up spontaneously to help us.

We delivered 700000.

Cleanup kits relief kits and things like that.

But -- people up there is still really hurting so we're going to be busy over Thanksgiving we're gonna be going through the neighborhoods -- Thanksgiving meals for them.

We're gonna be helping other normal charities that didn't do this kind of Thanksgiving for -- help -- if they need you know extra resource is because of the extreme heat this year.

-- -- really been busy there but of course it she said.

We -- 70000 disasters all over the country every year.

Well let's talk about things that you -- sort of -- -- -- and over the holiday to do some special things tossed out -- was sure well we encourage people over the holidays to give something that means something so that could be.

The donation applied.

Red Cross collects 40% of the blood in this country we still need -- and actually during the holidays we see it dip because people are busy with holiday plans if you can make a little time to donate blood.

That would be great.

One of our most popular programs is sending cards to our troops overseas.

This is like our fifth or six year doing that I was just at a card making.

Event yesterday where some kids were doing cards and I -- now I know a little pop up thing like that.

And so on it's important -- it didn't know that we don't forget them that there is -- and they love to get you know cards from home.

We also have a hotly holiday catalog that's online where you can pick out a gift for someone in your shopping list.

And give it in their -- and so it might be some of those -- that you're seeing being used over sandy.

You could give -- in honor someone on your shopping list and it's really something that makes people feel good.

And finally I just encourage people live sucking up to volunteer with the Red Cross.

We are voluntary agency 90% of the people that you see up there at -- -- volunteers.

And if you get trained during the year -- god forbid when disaster strikes you can be on the scene helping others to him.

My -- that we -- something again whether it's timer blood or money or that our cards.

On the Airways for all of us to get involved we thank you for the work -- -- is doing in and we know that it never lets up.

So we encourage folks suits you checking your website and into the great cross that award and -- -- -- all fox viewers your donations have been amazing.

And that's what's allowing us to turn that compassion and action.
