And CIA director David Petraeus.
And deflected attention from the hole Ben got to the gate scandal was seen out this evening in Washington DC walking arm and arm where there 'cause spend.
General Petraeus remains out outside the day after his explosive testimony on Capitol Hill about the deadly events in Libya.
In -- fox -- exclusive to tell us whether there is any connection between the general's personal problems.
And his testimony concerning Ben -- his former spokesman retard colonel Steve Boylan joins us from Kansas City.
Colonel -- I appreciate your being with us so is there a connection between -- -- and the and the sex scandal.
No overall though there is there's gonna talk with you again unfortunate -- these circumstances but in my initial contact with David Petraeus.
He informed me that there was no connection whatsoever.
Between what happened with his affair which ended about four months ago by the way.
And the White House which he added a great working relationship thing Ghazi or anything else for that matter he.
-- he told me that it was a poor judgment bad decision in just a lack of discipline on his part and that he deeply regrets for many many reasons.
Many of them start with his family how much he's hurt them.
Losing that job that he felt that he.
Loved more than anything else as far as his professional side right now great job and working with the great to a group of people at the CIA.
When did the affair start did it start.
As Britain has been reported in Afghanistan when she was interviewing him there for -- various reports.
No those are inaccurate reports at least based on might just discussions with him very early on when this started breaking on last look we could go last Friday.
He told me that it had started about 22 and a half months.
After he'd been the director of the CIA and again ended about 44 and a half months ago.
During that time I was with you guys I never sort General Petraeus alone.
He always said you are around him or another of his key aids he had -- -- on to rise.
But as CIA director he wouldn't have any of that.
Was that one of the reasons he was vulnerable.
As as apparently he was to pull abroad well.
Well I don't know of those that specific reason.
I tend to think that he may have had a little bit harder time.
Adjusting to retirement well let's face it he spent 37 plus years since he was eighteen years old in uniform starting with West Point.
An ending as a four star general he had known that his entire adult life.
I think possibly he was a little bit down maybe a little bit vulnerable that point in time.
And it just the right circumstances or if you want -- call the wrong circumstances.
Made a bad decision that -- that.
He is owned up to that the country has seen he's taken responsibility for.
He did what he considered to be the right thing which was to resign from the CIA.
And right now he's -- -- focus on -- scrambling.
Retired colonel Steve Boylan is my guess is this his first affair.
Did you ask him -- or is this a pattern of illicit conduct that none of us.
Huge admirers of the general ever suspected.
Well this was something we discussed and I asked him and he told me flat out that this was the only time.
He has had an affair and I suspect it would be the last time you have an affair because he knows how much damages has done to his family.
And this is something I don't think he even really wanted to do I think it it for somehow some reason really just known to him.
It happened and at this point.
You know everyone knows what happened.
Is it even remotely possible colonel Boylan that he would have altered his testimony.
About Ben Ghazi.
Because members of the administration or someone.
Knew about this affair and effectively blackmailed him -- tailor his testimony.
About being Ghazi so it would suit.
The Obama administration.
No I don't think so you have to know David Petraeus.
You know he would not have done that in fact I would suspect that if somebody head tried to blackmail more influence -- a certain way.
He would do the exact dobbs didn't come out and let everyone know he he's testified before congress.
Numerous times I was with him during five of those times.
And he will tell it straight forward the way it is based on the information he has at that time and we know truth changes over time a little bit as you get more information.
So you think that's what's happening now he's just finding out more through the fog of war about -- -- Well I I think over time more and more information becomes available.
I wasn't at the testimony -- yesterday I don't have the need to know or the clearance no anymore.
And he would have told me exactly what he said anyway just because he doesn't divulge classified information on the course myself.
I have to leave it there -- -- -- we're out of time but I thank you so much for coming forward and speaking out to us exclusively colonel retired Steve Boyle and I appreciated.
