We've -- talk about a possible compromise that would leave rates the same but cap deductions for high income earners.

Is that something that's except now.

Not enough you know will never -- -- president and it made it very clear in his campaign had it there is not enough they are not enough to slip.

That is what you just described as a formula.

And a blueprint for hampering our future.

That was House Minority Leader Nancy below -- trying to Martha Raddatz on ABC's this week and what she was saying there was.

It's not how much money comes then.

It's how the money is obtained that it doesn't matter.

Whether or not rich people are paying effectively pay -- taxes it matters that the rate actually goes up.

For top earners and this is power play and I am still Chris -- Missed you very much last week Internet I'm glad to be back.

But I did enjoy sleeping for a little while that was kind of -- and as I returned.

Today I found exactly the same circumstance exists when I left.

Which was a lot of bluster about putting together a deal would compromise.

But on substantial parts of what we -- the fiscal clue.

It's the two sides remain far part.

So what's gonna happen with that we'll do that we'll talk about what's gonna happen there so that you can go ahead and get on with your Thanksgiving shopping.

We will talk about recount down and you know congressman Alan west.

Down in Florida we'll talk about the -- recount to were contested recount in his house race we'll talk about their Republican efforts to court the Hispanic voters.

What that means for the future.

And we will talk about the difficulties facing the administration is they try to fill three key cabinet posts defense.

State.

And CIA -- cabinet post but high level post with the CIA.

At a time when the issue of Ben Ghazi in Libya and all this stuff that -- complicated Republicans are on the attack we'll do all of that we will have our points.

But let us wait not one minute longer.

To say hello to Reid wasn't easy editor in chief.

The hotline I mean.

They -- -- -- to me it will always be the hotline thank you -- that's how it goes like -- that you guys need you guys -- -- definite article I think that's I think that's it but basically the -- before.

Everybody was what you're doing everything else on the hotline has been.

The primary resource for political junkies.

For the -- shoot people in the professional politics and need to know the latest and you make that so can I don't think Chris back.

All right -- Why does it matter to Nancy Pelosi.

And other Democrats.

Whether the whether rich people pay more money as a result fewer deductions -- as a result of higher rates why is that.

Important well I think there're couple things I think both sides are really playing to the base right now after this election.

The Democrats need to show their own base that they're gonna stand up and do something and you sort of take this but they say is a -- and and trying to actually.

Not to legislative victory -- because they have been few wooden and far between.

At least -- -- 112 congress the Republicans -- -- -- have to stay as some sort of as cohesive as they have been over the last couple years.

-- in opposing these tax increases because.

If they don't their race is gonna get all angry.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Not impact the deficit over the long run it did indeed the -- you know President Obama has said that that he is wind is a signal that Americans are willing to pay a little more in taxes so.

You know there there is the conundrum first of all the policy isn't.

Spectacular right deductions -- popular people like being able to write -- their their mortgage interest or ordered their charitable contributions.

And you know raising rates is a way to not to achieve the democratic goal without sacrificing the sacred cows that that everybody.

Democrat and Republican life.

-- the Republicans.

Though do seem to be warming to this idea.

Capping deductions that you leave you don't eliminate any deductions for what you basically say is and -- talked about this that you -- -- number 50000 dollars or something so you can only take deductions up this mountain.

Which ends up only affecting about the same number of people right -- but that.

Doesn't constitute a rate increase.

So the Democrats don't want to be seen Republicans -- And then there is a little -- is sort of helping out.

John Boehner and the Republicans here a little bit too you know one of the key.

Goals that Democrats have this year as sort of counterintuitive as it seems is to give Republicans the political cover they need to actually go ahead and vote for whatever the final deal is now.

If you're if you're able to cap deductions if you're able to you know the sort of do all this legislative jujitsu to end up went with -- the final result.

You give John Boehner and house Republicans the ability to say that they have not voted for a rate increase remembered the vast majority of the Republican conference has signed on to the Americans for Tax Reform no tax increase pledge if you can give them away out of that right then they've got some political -- they can end up voting for the for the larger package deal this is really all about saving face and both sides are really trying to it to save -- another.

-- -- that in the end I think in the end they're good at when they go into the room and close the door they're good fight and now of course that's sort of how we got into this mess being -- actually created a he's dead man switches and this is -- and for that created this fiscal cliff.

How much of a factor in this.

Is.

The sequestration when we talk about these automatic cuts and -- we're talking about about one point six trillion dollars in cuts but it's spread out over a decade it's not like.

The side falls and everything gets -- but.

It's so austerity that Republicans don't like the defense side and the Democrats felt like social spending side.

How likely is that to.

Should be implemented I don't think it's likely to be implemented in all everybody from near Tbilisi to John -- and everybody in between.

Says that -- a bad idea they don't want to make these cuts they are again looking for a way to save some face the Republicans still want to cut the spending Democrats still wanna.

Make sure their programs to stay intact.

-- it was so.

There is actively looking for a way around.

What you've mentioned the the box that they locked themselves in a year ago we were debating over the debt ceiling so this is this all comes out of that debate over the summer in which -- -- -- to that -- fiscal -- and our -- after the new fiscal -- yeah I think he gets -- I think that I don't think sequestration is gonna happen.

But it looms and and it's sort of having its intended effect it is forcing everybody to the table to hash out these being dubbed a good sort of looks and when we come back can you can't you were talking about six months or some kind of from mid term extension and since then you can get everybody back together.

It work again look we've got we've got what twelve or thirteen legislative days left in the -- -- -- 112 congress is on its way out John Maynard just told me a couple of weeks ago that he is likely -- he doesn't think that -- After election people who were elected last time around should still have an input on this -- he'd like to see it -- to the 113 congress there's a lot to deal with sequestration.

The bush tax cuts the Alternative Minimum Tax which hasn't been dealt with this here he you've got the bush -- -- -- -- -- all the -- -- doc fix any -- doc fix it all these huge -- and probably.

Funding the government -- probably we're about to hit the debt ceiling again behind their debt ceiling there working on an omnibus bill so all of these things can be pushed down the line it just takes speedy votes -- to actually do it.

With only twelve legislative days left him with this sneak -- only the barest outlines of -- deal coming into into -- -- -- view it looks like -- they're gonna have to -- enough.

But the Democrats would like to get as much of it done now because they feel like they're -- they'll have president's reelection more than make -- -- about the mandate right that's right they've got the you know they've they've just one.

The White House -- picked up seats in the house and the senate they feel like they've got the momentum on their side they feel like they can by the way because of Grover Norquist is tax pledge they feel like they could use some of that they'll let the bush tax cuts expire and then and then cut taxes under 250000.

Dollars and by the way you've just created the biggest tax -- American history which of course is talking point anybody anytime anybody brings up any kind of tax cut whatsoever.

As we always say here when they're talking about raising your taxes that they call revenue when they talk about cutting your tax it is definitely call it taxes they definitely don't say we're gonna ever revenue cut.

Jim Angle is Smart.

And here's what he tells us that he did his leg work today the Tax Policy Center found that capping deductions at 50000 dollars per filer would raise.

750.

Billion for the tax increase president -- would raise -- 825.

Billion.

According to the Congressional Budget Office -- 850 billion according to the Office of Management and Budget so that's.

That's the score that's where that's that's the revenue that -- that is being talked about here are -- to take a quick break but when we come back we'll get to some of your chats we'll talk about that.

We'll talk with the Allen west race we'll talk about Hispanic voters you'll like it because Mike Emanuel will be here as a stick around.

We want people like us we have to like them first.

And you don't start to like people by insulting -- my saying their votes were bought where an aspiration party.

That was Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal.

On FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace taking Mitt Romney to task.

Nobody so defeated as -- defeated presidential candidate taking Mitt Romney to task.

-- comments that he made about the gifts that we're given -- democratic base constituencies by the Obama administration.

In order to assure their votes.

And this is power play.

The Republican.

I wrote not -- because I was off but the week before that -- -- that the Republican soul searching is is is very much a foot.

And they're talking a lot about Hispanic voters they're talking about a way to reach out to voters outside of the traditional Republican base and all of those things.

So we will talk about that with Mike Emanuel who is the man.

He you probably like to better views on this side of the table it's all not at all but it was fine for me last week.

Mike is our man on Capitol Hill and Reid Wilson.

-- from the -- this with us -- OK so I wanna talk about this and Hispanic votes Republican outreach and all that stuff.

But first that's.

Get up to speed Sudan and that's the eighteenth district in Florida right the new district -- this is South Florida district Allen west got.

His district got changed the Republicans did in game of musical chairs congressman -- But to answer he got -- district that was much more difficult for Republicans -- with previous district that snakes down south of Miami.

Actually it's it's a little bit more Republican was previously was this is a fascinating see this is a 50% of the voters are hardcore conservatives write about 50% of voters are hardcore liberals and there really is no middle so somebody like Allen west -- who plays to the base is is perfect for -- -- if he's able to win over if you.

His entire 50% and keep sort of that other 50%.

And today and there's conflict going on now that that is one of the counties this that we've been part of this district covered in this district covers part of saint Lucie county.

They had a democratic.

Chief of elections.

She stopped the count they didn't candidates -- certify results.

-- this looks like this is headed to court looks like we're gonna have -- it's Florida it's South Florida it's an election looks like this thing's going all the way right.

Right -- more drama and west clearly does not want to go away without sort of feeling like he's exercised every possible.

Opportunity to count vote that may have been cast in his -- were to make sure that the -- judgment of this election was accurate and so he he's continuing to fight and hoping that he can pull out.

And if you're down -- countless there's a lot of very loyal supporters and that helps you stay in the fight because you're not just congressman Joe -- did your little your bit of the celebrity on the right and they look they -- you're talking points.

It was -- feet.

It'll be interesting for west if he loses.

He might actually have -- higher profile because then you can just go national security -- a brand.

And then announcing he's running for president but I'm saying that he can go out there and why not take a trip to Iowa now and just go see if it's lovely to get the Marco Rubio special and got New Hampshire -- gorgeous as.

I'm certain -- can certainly see in Allen west radio show and Allen west on television whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa let's not give up our jobs right now knows we're okay.

I'm trying to get other people like.

OK so.

Let's talk about -- this Hispanic outreach now for the Republicans.

And I -- actually talked about this as I wrote it and talk about it.

Its -- saying that for the Republicans they did so poorly with Hispanic voters.

Back sort of the Gerry Ford level of support among Hispanic voters they'd experienced under Reagan and bush stated to you sort of climbed up to Indy in the thirties and forties they drop back down into the low twenties.

With Romney.

This average -- today and you can get it if you found it Twitter did you know that in -- you can't.

That the big interestingly enough the president goes to fill out his -- -- and he doesn't have a lot of Hispanic talent around that he can -- Democrats have a lot of Hispanic voters but in the leadership of their party the president doesn't have a person that would be an obvious choice for day.

Big job for Treasury Secretary or something like that to demonstrate that is this there is this correct.

-- Republicans have clearly done a better job in getting minorities into office and and Democrats have a -- -- -- -- be clear the overwhelming number of of minorities in the US house our caucus with the Democrats but there are some very high profile.

Republicans who who -- -- office across the country.

Whether it's Allen Lester or Tim -- in the house or Marco Rubio in the senate and you know Ted Cruz will be in the next senate Brian sent the ball and -- and Martinez the governors of Nevada and and New Mexico so look there is there are Republican minorities who have who have won election to these -- whereas Democrats have is that the one big minority name that I think you'll you'll see in cabinet discussions is Deval Patrick the governor of Massachusetts he's not he's definitely not expect.

He's definitely Hispanic however he is and he is African America is honored you know there are a number of house members who I think you can you can see moving up but.

As as you pointed out there's a big gap there between.

Between that members of the house and the US senate I even have a bunch of democratic friends who call me up and say why aren't Democrats running more minorities for statewide offices why not have them and me and on a bunch of officeholders who look like the party -- just elected you -- be a good time to be courting voters agent.

It's hard workers modernize vanity is -- not -- I profiler and American rights what the president is African Americans what they do after that when the Castro Brothers and -- -- there you know.

Then again there in Texas and Texas needs and probably a house district is mrs.

-- again.

At least for another couple -- couple years the issue -- the Republicans are talking met.

How do.

Essentially the way immigration and amnesty for illegal immigrants ten million or so ten -- twelve million illegal immigrants in the United States.

What to do about that because for the Democrats this has been a great way to pride Hispanic votes away from Republicans -- -- this problem remains unsolved.

This is something that Democrats -- every election cycle sex and the Republicans wanted to -- you.

They -- around you up there -- around -- cousins up in a bus and take them to Mexico even if they've lived here for fifty guess he's self deport unless you self deport which you know not that there's anything wrong with that.

But Mike for the for the Republicans is they're really appetite.

You know Charles Krauthammer and others have talked about the need to just get past this is an issue and give him.

Deprive the president of the a wedge and deprive Democrats who it is really the appetite among Republicans to do something.

While three senators.

Have been working on the achieve act which is their version of what to do about these young people who are brought to the country by their parents.

In don't have legal status in this country.

And so Kay Bailey Hutchison who's retiring Jon Kyl who's retiring and Marco Rubio.

Who not retiring who is in Iowa Louisiana.

Are working on this and perhaps it is the permanent solution and what it would do that is different than the president's plan is he would not allow them to jump ahead of people.

Who have been legally waiting their turn in the immigration system.

And so there's some suggestion that maybe that it would be more appetizing to Republicans it was passed around.

In the senate meeting with senate Republican -- over the I think it was Thursday of last week floated around we'll see if there's an appetite for.

Well we'll see if there's always people are always hungry for things that include votes gentlemen thank you very much -- Conference today the Internet -- take a quick break but when we come back we will have a Politico.

Lower case.

So stick around.

Under the present circumstances I don't until we find out all -- information as to what happened I don't think you could -- support any nominee right now.

That was John McCain he is senator from Arizona he ran for president one time he was on face the nation.

Discussing the rumored nomination of UN ambassador Susan Rice replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

And -- and threatening that until he was satisfied about what happened with the Islamist attack and US outpost and Benghazi Libya that maybe he would just block all nominations and I didn't know what would be allowed to be secretary of state.

Until he was satisfied.

This power -- welcome back.

And for the Obama administration they have.

A lot of stuff they need to do the president needs to do in his cabinet and some stuff he wants to do -- cabin and it's complicated bit.

By what's going on the battle with Republicans over the Libya stuff.

So they're dealing with that also it's time of fiscal uncertainty they -- new Treasury Secretary.

What will shape up what will the new Obama 2.0 look like.

And -- we have to Republicans and one Democrat to talk about that but.

Or give it a conservative Republican and a Democrat talk about -- -- their fair minded and they're Smart.

And they they will be fair about this Jim Pinkerton.

He is a contributing editor and writer for the American conservative magazine -- he is in fact Fox News contributor and he's also Chicago.

No doubt got consulting with team Obama right him.

I'm not quite her not quite -- yet okay Tony -- is here he is of course the former Press Secretary for the Democratic National Committee.

You know him as he -- on the twitters.

And he is a democratic strategist and helped Democrats win stuff.

And that you know Ron -- -- Ron is of -- -- is a principle -- about it which centric company that he also used to be the top talker.

For the speaker of the house Dennis -- And work with the Republican leadership in the senate.

So welcome -- So word from short time so I want to do it this way -- -- -- to start with you Jim.

Cool when you look at who are the people most likely.

Two emerge in this three and the national security three because they need -- new CIA director they need a new Defense Secretary.

They need as a Department of State -- secretary of state.

Who do you think are the top the top contenders for those slots.

I think President Obama has made it.

Pretty clear that he wants to nominate Susan -- to be secretary of state and frankly I don't think John McCain will be able stop them I think.

Any effort to filibuster her with last about a week before it ended I just think.

The imperative to get to -- through the confirmation process and the fact that former CIA director Petraeus has said in -- facts.

That there are good reasons this is him saying and not me but him saying it that there are good reasons to edit out all the al-Qaeda stuff from the talking points.

I think that eliminates the main barrier -- back being confirmed although I certainly a lot of fireworks and -- in the Bergeron.

Okay.

And Tony.

What do you think when we when we look.

At the national security stuff but also treasury Tim Geithner is ready to go he's tired he's had a long they -- have a longer for years than Tim Geithner.

He's he's ready to go what are you -- Well I don't.

Pretty much.

Like -- laid out.

For those who we've talked about there.

One of the things that I enjoy is all the consideration when you talk about -- defense is all the consideration for what that means in the sent.

-- that that in and who -- with whom Grasso -- Deval Patrick had dinner at the White House and that means that maybe he'll consider the penalty that would make things more appealing for President Obama to name carriers -- that somebody like Scott Brown for example doesn't just run again that Malia.

Didn't -- -- it's one of the things that the so it was automatically assume that it that the Scott Brown once again he's brilliant well maybe now he's running against the governor.

Right reelected today that -- to single a little bit there if that's what is that what is in the ball.

After its cards for this this this this right so -- when you when you do this this second term.

This is the in this elections that a president -- we saw this with George W.

Bush.

The last two term president this elections the president make his second term send a message -- your first opportunity to send the message this is what we wanna do.

This is how we want it to be what message is we look at these -- -- president price plus.

It's going to be really choosing where we're not quite sure exactly who's going to be is going to be in his -- we have some names we have to -- direction in terms of treasury and we're hearing -- White House chief of staff.

-- Labatt blue Jacob to -- who Goodell who could end up going over there however you have to get through this initial fiscal cliff thing first because Tim Geithner has experienced.

So that's the case -- has an outstanding -- he's got a good relationship with Capitol Hill and saying hey I want to work with -- wanna work with Capitol Hill and terms of fostering -- -- -- future that would be citizens is out of us partisan or necessarily attack aircraft this is somebody who has.

I'm sorry he is -- type aircraft but rather.

He is somebody is a bipartisan skills bipartisan push.

Jim how hard about how hardball -- do you think the Republicans are going to be on these sorts of nominations the president won reelection.

Are they really get a McCain is set it up there.

But some of his friends Lindsey Graham allegedly -- -- well now wait a minute we are gonna have to confirm some appointments here how hard do you think Republicans are gonna go on on these are.

I I really don't see it I -- I think there -- a lot of things evolve as -- gonna fight over including the fiscal cliff in the tax issue I just don't think they're gonna fight over.

Form I think the establishment.

Would come down hard on and I I really think -- -- we'll be.

Be all in place within a couple weeks after the president.

Points and I mean this is just -- is not the time to pick a fight with.

The guy just got reelected with whatever was fifty million votes or something and and I just again -- not like Republicans are giving -- try to -- the user not the -- -- If if you're dealing with Iran and Israel wants -- does not -- -- that there -- much vacancies.

In the world -- Okay and quickly we got to go but Tony.

Any chance here to put Republican in the cabinet is this is is this a chance for the president to do that we know that's his inclination that that he's inclined to do he'd like to he's he's done before and so I think that opportunity arises he'll take it the right to do this there but I will tell you this.

On right on rice very clearly isn't backing down I think -- tried to say or concerns that yet the vote went on us it was a Republican that could go for the Obama administration.

A Republican -- -- -- -- and especially wow that's a tough one.

Dick -- -- Chuck Hagel chuck.

And yeah.

Okay yeah yeah.

I don't know if he's available yeah.

That is tried and true -- -- -- in the -- you ask me it takes things way out -- gentlemen we thank you very much for being with us today thank you thank you.
