Tonight the future of the Republican Party Hispanics are a crucial voting block so level Republicans do to win the -- -- is one of the questions we -- rising GOP star.
Texas senator elect Ted Cruz.
Nice to see -- -- Greta it's great to be with you well welcome to watch you ready I hope so we had a lot to do out -- what Sarah if you -- your dream list of things to them.
Look I think we need to turn the country around I -- my dream list of my priorities are very simple they are cutting spending in the -- Reforming regulations and fundamental tax reform and all of those are focused is generating growth within our economy -- and they get people back to work if you don't fairways tighten up and kept a happy scene that that they are I haven't seen that so far but I think that is.
That is the world in which we live.
Every single person who I talked to in the house and senate Republican Democrat.
Wants to make the country better and whether it's -- cutting spending or doing something to entitlements where ever -- stood pound but you know it never.
If -- is that what keeps it in the -- fighting.
I'm curious you're going to be in the minority party once you're sworn in any given any -- how you get your seven dreams of things that you want to accomplish for the nation for Texas.
Do that in the minority -- and I thought.
It's going to be very very challenging and and the reason is ideas matter I agree with you most of the people here are here for good reasons they have good intentions.
But there are fundamentally different approaches to what direction our country should go as.
And so for -- those.
Democrats -- even those Republicans who think the answer should be more of the last four years more and more spending more and more -- more and more regulations more and more taxes.
And many of them believe that -- a heartfelt genuine belief.
I think that's the wrong path I think that's a dangerous path I think that will hurt the country and hurt Americans.
And so -- even if they're fighting for in good conscience I will certainly do everything I can't stop us from going down that path because I don't think it's easy at work.
So you may -- -- the budget -- senator Harry Reid does not on a budget come to the floor he's in the majority part of this -- -- to do.
You may wanna have a budget they may -- -- bad that -- does.
That is -- come up with a budget how frustrating again.
Well I think the senate has been really irresponsible the last few years as you know women -- a budget in over three years.
I think if the Democrats want to pursue big government policies -- -- -- vote on -- they -- know on record and say this is our budget this is what we wanna do.
Com.
I -- think the next couple years are going to be challenging and they're going to be challenging because we've got a president who was reelected we got a democratic majority Harry Reid.
-- back in power whose.
Philosophies and ideas I think are contrary to a great many Americans I think we're gonna have a lot of gridlock unfortunately.
I hope I'm wrong.
I will say this if President Obama actually means what he said on the campaign trail.
Steve he really does want to bring people together work to turn around our debt tips to get people working again I will happily work with and I'll work with any of the but if he instant hit an instant intends to double downs on the path for the last four years.
Then I intend to do everything I can stop us from continuing and that rather.
They're excited this city immigration.
President Bob promised to do to get some immigration reform give big speech -- an American neighbors actually -- listen to it wouldn't get immigration reform.
However he did better against governor Romney -- the Hispanic vote 71% up couple picks from 2008 dead Senator McCain did better.
The Republican Party seems to get almost I'm Vick gets about 29%.
And Hispanic vote.
How what's what's gonna party like and what why don't Hispanics want to their vote with your party.
Well.
There's no doubt Republicans when we got to do a better job of Hispanic community except me.
Yes I think so far Republicans have been lousy at communicating our ideas and Hispanic community I think the -- has.
The values in the Hispanic community are fundamentally conservative.
What governor Susanna Martinez said in her speech at the RNC.
That she didn't -- that she herself had been a Democrat to -- lunch for the Republican and she says they're like wow I'm a Republican or something.
So the values but the Hispanics that they don't buy at least -- in the new elections.
Well it didn't in this election they didn't because Democrats in a far better job communicating their message than we did but you know you mentioned governor Martinez.
And and the national convention the contrast of the Republican and democratic conventions were striking.
At the Republican conventions there were four state -- elected officials -- candidates who were Hispanic.
Susanna Martinez and Brian sent -- ball both governors and then Marco Rubio and myself.
The Democrats had zero.
And I think the reason yes.
There's a difference in how the party's approach Hispanics unfortunately the Democrats.
Pigeon hole candidates and so they had -- they had members of congress but they got a real problem getting Hispanics elected statewide because when you pigeon -- candidates.
You're not able to have candidates that appeal broadly to Americans.
Not just of one ethnicity but to values that bring us all together and I think that.
Shows a lot of promise for the direction the republic.
Can party can go in the future.
-- -- on immigration made a lot of people vote for single issue for a long time people voted on the issue of abortion are people voted because as a woman -- an -- American now a lot of that.
But the immigration issue has been set -- an important issue the Hispanic community is isn't.
That do you think that's what drives a voter drove the last one can't so what what would you -- see your party do I'm -- You know I actually don't think it is immigration that's driving the -- I think the Democrats want to immigration to drive the vote and they're using it as a wedge issue to try to scare the Hispanic community.
And I think total manners -- I think Republicans hold on immigration.
Needs to be improved.
I'll tell you every poll I've ever seen and Hispanic community shows they're number one issue these jobs in the economy exactly like the rest of of this country.
What Republicans didn't do a good job this is taking the message -- Hispanic community if you want opportunity.
Hillary -- Barack Obama Hispanic unemployment grew faster than unemployment generally -- a little over 10%.
To me how -- he grew he gotten more Hispanic I mean is it really sets a bad message delivery service by -- by governor Romney is at Howard nobody -- pay attention unfortunately yes I mean we didn't make the argument to the Hispanic community.
That the path -- opportunity.
They're 2.3 million Hispanics -- -- small business owners nearly one in ten.
Hispanic households in this country as small business owner.
The avenue to advancement -- my dad came 55 years ago from Cuba.
He washed dishes making fifty cents an hour couldn't speak English.
But he was able to start a small business that has been in the past two advancement what Republicans should have been doing.
He's far more effectively championing small business.
As the past -- climbing the economic letters.
That has been the American dream and we got to be more effective and carrying that message had two part question I mean give me some committees which is the one they think would be the most interest seen.
Intellectually -- in the most fun and which when he -- that you should -- -- for your constituents back home.
Well committees are -- ultimately a decision that's outside my hand and we made by the leadership and and so I'll leave those discussions internally rather than trying to lob lobby publicly.
I can tell you this that.
My priorities will be the three I mentioned at the outset cutting spending in the debt.
Regulatory reform and tax reform and the reason for reg reform and tax reform.
He's what is critical is gross if you want to turn our economy around if you wanna get the 23 million people who are struggling to find jobs back to work.
We've got to get economic growth back and my singular focus every day in the US senate.
He's going to be removing the barriers to small businesses to entrepreneur awards.
Creating jobs and growing the economy and I think regulatory reform.
And tax reform along with sound money card -- most effective ways to enable small businesses to create jobs and grow our economy.
Well I see it doesn't committees that you get done then Tennessee and what happened so welcome Washington that -- -- and of course you'll come back off another day you're just a block away right I look forward to.
-- thank you -- Cesar thanks for.
