If she walks away with a crown she's decided to undergo a major surgery where she says she'll be choosing life over beauty.

-- rose will undergo a preventative double mastectomy.

To avoid the risk of getting breast cancer in the future and she's joining us.

Now to share more about her crucial decision and Alan great to see -- healthy thing I know it up my Alley so all.

I'll call -- that tell us how you.

Came to this major decision.

Well my mother's diagnosis of breast cancer when she missed -- seven and my mom really told me the story of what it was like to.

You know really question what her future is going to be whether she'd be able to run again -- marathon runner whether.

She be able to finish her degree she was working on a second master's degree -- time -- you know what man is ever gonna love her with one press.

And you know she said to herself I'm not going to give up in this cancer is not going to win in defeat me in my life and just -- on pressed on finish that degree in five months not only completed but won a marathon in the year.

And I say you know five years later she met my dad who promised that he was a -- god and he didn't care one bit.

So I mean she just was such a story of resiliency for me and when I found out that I was genetically -- -- to cancer having a mother diagnosed at such a young age.

-- to pass away with -- earlier.

And later in life and I -- a genetic carrier with Scott altered syndrome which.

Has been shown in some recent studies to be a precursor for cancer and I said you know I'm not willing to take the risk of leaving my children without a mother.

You're 24 years.

-- hum other young women -- -- made that agonizing decision as well to do preventative double mastectomy but what makes your situation.

Particularly unusual is that -- contestant.

Four -- America how does that play into your decision.

Well I knew that when I decided to.

Get involved with the Miss America program that we would have this incredible charitable platform -- we can advocate calls that was important to us and that's something that.

The Miss America program affords young women across this country and I thought what a great platform to be able to speak about my mother.

To have her legacy live on through me.

And you know if I can do something to prolong my life to be here for my husband some day to be here for my children to be able to speak to young -- encourage them and say.

-- you can't have the surgery this isn't something that's going to define your life your press don't define.

The stereotype of you know what's beautiful in this country you're beautiful woman and there's just been such an incredible outcry of support.

And to have hundreds of women writing messages and tell me you're making -- -- decision it's just and so on going after trying for years old as we said you you just said your mom was diagnosed and -- 27 have you considered postponing.

Your surgery a little longer.

Well my mom being -- you're diagnosed in twenty and 27 I know that's three years from now and the idea that I could be.

You know facing about for my life that's just such an incredible.

Scary proposition and I said you know I'm not willing to take the risk of going to be proactive I'm gonna do it now because I don't want -- face up at all.

Anderson -- you are an inspiration thank you so it's a delight to talk to you best of luck in video contest -- -- I bet your we'll be watching very closely to see what happens in the next question I have lots of things youth are.
