We're seeing new reports in the Israeli media that the deadly and growing conflict between Israel him and Hamas is actually the opening round.

Of a larger conflict with Iran.

Israel's been at odds with Iran over its nuclear program for years is now and -- rockets are launched into Jerusalem by Hamas which is extraordinary.

One of the same groups that would likely defend Iran from Israeli air attack that's Hamas.

There are growing concerns that Israel's current conflict could be setting up the ideal conditions.

For them to launch a much larger war.

Joining -- now to discuss it colonel Oliver North was a Fox News military analyst and author of heroes proved in stories today.

And Lisa dot Atari is a journalist specializing in the mideast counterterrorism and Iran in affairs -- -- I this is fascinating to me that -- the reporting.

Out of Israel today is it discusses whether -- this is actually.

The little.

Line camp right it's sort of -- they say it's sort of the little war the little war that's -- precede the big war and the theory is that.

If if Israel hits Iran's nuclear program Iran will strike back you know you will use groups like Hamas and has -- -- on.

-- -- -- -- And so Israel is sort of starting by taking out Hamas and in and it's rockets in its weaponry and may be eleven non Hezbollah's next and then they go for the big enchilada.

Which is Iraq colonel your thoughts.

All that -- would be good Megan if the Israelis had started this fight but they didn't it was all begun by Hamas and Islamic Jihad organization.

Firing rockets into civilian locations in Israel.

It's going on for the last several months.

Now is really finally responds.

By taking out the fudge or five sites all of which by the way were delivered -- Iran.

They've been delivered to Hamas and Islamic Jihad through Sudan from Iran.

Down the Nile River and handed over to Hamas by the egyptians who have facilitated the smuggling operation for some time.

There's no doubt that Israel would benefit from taking out this threat.

If they were about to strike Iran and it will be a very serious prospects it will.

Give the same kind of opportunity for Hezbollah in the north and god forbid a collapse of the Jordanian government next door.

-- -- colonel north is talking about these five you're five these are rockets they come directly from Iran they go to Hamas.

And Israel's very worried about them because their long range they get smuggled and we'll put the map up.

But they get smuggled in across the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt.

Two Hamas.

And we're told.

-- Jennifer Griffin is reporting that under Mubarak who of course was in Egypt -- -- earlier spring he used to monitor the Keller wrote the weapons but since he's been.

Ousted the flow is increased and so has the least -- the of the weapons and so Israel's very worried about this do you think that this war even though they didn't start it.

Is -- hitting Israel and its ability to take out these types of weapons before any potential hit on Iraq.

Well we there's motivations on on both sides the theory that that -- but they started which colonel.

Accurately said that they did it.

That at that Israel will continue this in order to.

Eliminate some of the -- -- an element that's surrounded if we flip that and look at this as a proxy war that.

Iran is launching against Israel -- not only.

Flex its muscles -- and show the it.

It Israelis that we can and we will be a direct threat to you from the north.

The -- and Lebanon from the south with Hamas and from the east with that B Ronnie and regime's own elements.

Not only that but the running regime has been looking for distraction for very long time to take the international community's attention.

Offer what they're doing in Syria their involvement there.

And as well of their ongoing nuclear program and as you mentioned what's going on with.

With Egypt with tricky and it's been a rough neighborhood for the Israelis and it just got a lot.

More difficult for them to take on a lot of these elements -- colonel north.

Raise -- about to reach a cease fire were told these are live pictures by the -- as we watch the rocket fire rained down in Israel.

What do -- I assume they wouldn't be sending her they didn't know they had a deal.

Well I think that the administration clearly wants to be seen as playing the role of the peacemaker and all of this I don't necessarily think it's -- of a done deal that there's going to be a cease fire.

Mean after all it's store -- benefit that they continue to perfect the -- or five firing systems the way they -- them the way they command and control them.

The upside for the Israelis it is.

They now know some of the vulnerabilities.

Of the iron dome system.

And they know that it can be overwhelmed by barrage fire multiples launches in the same plane as it -- So they're gonna have to improve what they're going to defend their own people.

My expectation is that this may result in some kind of short term cease fire.

But as long as Iran gets away with sending these kinds of munitions through Egypt.

And very likely through Lebanon to Hezbollah it's going to continue.

-- -- -- -- -- Yeah I mean it's it's -- vote the sad part here is how the relevant and -- Americans look here where.

Turkey can come out and call Israel a very long time friend of the America -- terrorists -- which it did yesterday where Egypt can be a you know accomplice in the crime.

And and in the short term we're sending Hillary Clinton over -- to broker the cease fire.

But in the long term President Obama still has the ambition of negotiating with the terrorist regime.

In Iran.

-- thank you both so much.

Up next.
