It's hard to talk Turkey today President Obama saving copilot of the Turkey from becoming a Thanksgiving dinner by offering up.
-- presidential pardon.
After spending the past few days Washington's five star W hotel the bird will spend the rest of his life at Mount Vernon sounds nice right.
Won the -- affected is right and fueling says it's time to -- the presidential pardon all together and it this is my favorite segment today.
I just love you -- I mean.
I'm trying to figure RU guys serious when he did you come up of these ideas -- as a tongue in cheek just -- -- opted to create some buzz to talk about what the issue is now ahead what is it that you really not want the president to pardon this in this Turkey.
Well unfortunately -- -- sorely outdated and staged events often held in partnership with the Turkey producers themselves.
And frankly it doesn't do -- thing to help Turkey's -- don't need apart and they need people not to eat them.
And as you said in a few moments ago 46 million turkeys are killed every single year for Thanksgiving.
Many of whom have their throats slit while they're still fully conscious -- -- alive and boiling hot water.
It's simply not the kind of industry that people want to support anymore and so we hope that President Obama will follow in the footsteps of former President Clinton.
Was adopted a healthy begin lifestyle.
-- food is of course a much lower in saturated fat it has no cholesterol.
It's better for the environment it's certainly better for animals who are not tortured and -- desperate -- finish these turkeys and we have a life span of two years.
Actually they can live quite a bit longer the reality is that Turkey producers pump them full growth promoting drugs and grow them so large so fast that their legs actually snap on to their own weight.
And so if they were -- naturally they would through a live for quite a bit longer than that.
But the reality is that the animals were pardoned today will probably die within the next year's simply because there but their hearts will fail from the way they don't -- Well I have to ask you this guys you have the full screen on first take a look at this this recent ad campaign night actually -- comparing Turkey.
Eating Turkey pardoning turkeys to two races that right I mean is it is what one of the ad campaigns -- as you.
All right let's take a look this -- kids you wouldn't eat your dog why would you Turkey -- -- little picture the dog's head -- -- this extreme methods aren't enough.
No it's it's a simple biological fact I mean turkeys are able to feel pain and suffering exactly the same ways as the cats and dogs who -- our homes.
And when he did -- an undercover investigation into a butterball facility we documented workers punching Turkey is as though they were punching bags stomping on their heads until their -- exploded.
Even sexually assaulting Turkey's and so people are uncomfortable with the idea of buying an animal who is sexually assaulted before having their throats slit.
And I would agree with them the best thing they -- do -- -- to enjoy a Thanksgiving -- that's that's fully -- We need to point out we're not condone any of that activity was simply saying or I'm simply saying I think it's you know it's -- did -- No we're we're carnivores we eat meat and and that's way we've been enemies saying society should change American society -- she completely eliminate me from from our -- It's -- saying they just because we've done something for so many so many years doesn't mean we have to continue doing it.
The reality is that we live in 2012 we have delicious eating meals like -- Thanksgiving -- so -- roast with meat in gravy mashed potatoes.
Green bean casserole pumpkin pie people can enjoy all the delicious.
Holiday flavors they love without supporting egregious cruelty to animals and some of your other campaigns we've had we've heard on Alec Baldwin complaining about horse drawn carriages in Central Park.
We know all the stories about -- at the subpoena by the way that throws blood on -- people wearing for.
-- -- only accident in nonviolent method but we do raise awareness about the fur industry since animals are often skinned alive to produce those cuts could tell us about the nudity campaign -- -- Well hope -- just started a campaign many years ago called I'd rather go naked than Wear fur.
And it's really a light -- way to draw attention to more serious issue which is back that animals are -- only electrocuted vaginal electrocuted.
And oftentimes in the live in order to produce a fur coat.
And so the I'd rather go naked than Wear fur campaign is that a lighthearted fun way to draw attention to an issue that people don't really generally want to think about it isn't there a difference between an animal abuse.
And end in you know using and we re raising animals for human consumption there's there's got to be aligned right now.
-- think most Americans would agree that -- that's not acceptable to slit the throats of animals while they're still fully conscious sort of -- them alive and boiling hot water but unfortunately that's what we're paying for when we by Turkey from the grocery store for Thanksgiving.
And so we're encouraging people to check out our website Peta dot org where they can check out free begin recipes and learn how to how cruelty free holiday feast this year.
Right right we're gonna have to leave it there you -- -- manager of college campaigns and outreach -- the favorite -- for joining us.
And making me really depressed for the last thirty seconds of this.
I thought it was gonna go out holiday beef that -- and if there's a lot gotta gotta Jarvis thank you very much right I'll see you on the five.
