-- the American people have survived yet another fierce election season.

And regardless of whether you are favored candidate won or lost there are a number of political things.

That all Americans can be thankful for this holiday Larry -- -- director of the center for politics at the University of Virginia good to see you happy Thanksgiving Larry.

Happy Thanksgiving due to -- so I know -- lot of people around the country are grateful and thankful that ought to look at any more -- -- campaign -- today.

You just stole the number one thing I -- -- -- I guess we no longer have to mute the commercials.

When they come on at least until the next campaign don't worry the negative ads will be back but not now I know that you must be very grateful for your team over at the center for politics.

Because you guys -- batted a thousand this election season your predictions were spot on.

Well I've I've told people that after the election we only needed a minor tune up and it only cost 99.

Pat pat pat pat pat all right so all -- people still smarting.

After -- November 6 some people still celebrating.

What -- we all have.

Aside from the political ads going the way that we could be grateful for politically speaking.

Well I think we can be grateful that the election didn't come down to Florida wrecked because we probably still be worth waiting for the result.

If 2000 was any indication I'm just kidding for all my friends from and Florida -- while -- I don't know you can improve the system now I'm not giving your right.

That's that's one thing anyway.

I think another thing -- richt go we can be grateful that that we're only getting three holes a day.

Now instead of three poles and then it.

That's what we we're getting on average during the political season so.

Now you can really sit down and read the polls and enjoyed them router Internet and being inundated with all the numbers and we ask you -- -- a little bit off topic but as far as the polling is concerned there's been so much post election analysis about why so many pollsters were so wrong.

Do you think it next election cycle we we will have learned anything from this year that will help us get more accurate better polling.

Oh absolutely you know I people sometimes called me professor and I say no -- -- student I'm an eternal student.

I'm always learning and I think that's true of the professionals and polling they are always learning.

We learn something we learn a lot of things from every election campaign and look there were major problems with some of the polling this year.

The pollsters have learned from it and I think next time it probably will be better but I'm an eternal optimist and it's thanks.

Give me I -- -- half all right but let me ask you this city is there anything to be grateful for in the fact that we.

Still have a divided government is there is -- a a blessing in disguise.

Absolutely look it's often attributed incorrectly to Winston Churchill the phrase.

That the American system is the worst possible system except for all the others but it's still true.

We have thanks to our founders power divided at all levels.

It is divided and checked from the president right on down to the state legislatures.

So -- bad things happen.

They can be reversed and most of the bad things we imagine happening Rick never happened at all you know I'm still grateful very grateful for the American system and let's point out.

There only 1448.

Days until the next presidential.

Lot of that would ultimately -- we can start looking forward to the mid terms though that's coming up and half -- -- Europe -- and that's exactly right that's another thing to be grateful for.

I mean a lot of these lawmakers who just won.

Election or reelection.

Only a couple weeks ago they've already started fundraising for the next one.

-- the next campaign starts within 24 hours of the end of the last one.

That's the way it's really always been in America even though.

Outside the television age we didn't recognize it as such but that's the way our sister works in the only thing worse.

Then all of this politics is the absence of politics think about it what it would mean for our system not to.

-- have the politics well we are grateful to you Larry 70 for being such a good friend to fox.

And for coming on and sharing your insight and wisdom enjoy the holiday our best wishes to you and your family.

Same to you same -- you -- thank.
