After the fiscal cliff hanger we're just weeks away from possibly seeing big spending cuts and tax hikes kicking in and the big question remains.

Will lawmakers be able to reach a deal in time.

President Obama met with congressional leaders last week another meeting is set for next week.

But the two sides they are so far apart on taxes and spending cuts.

It even hope of bridging the divide.

-- green is that former president of the women's media center and a Fox News contributor and DD think he is a former campaign aide.

To president George W.

Bush and a GOP strategist thank you both for joining us he can Heather thank -- so -- some 800 billion in annual spending cuts and tax increases scheduled to start January 1 plunging its office fiscal cliff.

What did both sides need to do to come to a compromise DD I'll start with you.

Actually have very you know here we are again it doesn't groundhog state because -- had the government shut down and fiscal Clinton fiscal fiasco I mean Washington's EC is such a -- -- too bad that we didn't have more change.

From the election so I'm hoping.

Is that President Obama will be more for president and less of a candidate to seize them Mac daddy candidate.

There's no doubt about it this is a guy thinking campaign but he's not -- he's not lead as president some very hopeful that the new year will bring that.

I'd also like to -- new leadership in the Republican Party I think John Boehner needs to go I think it needs -- Kevin McCarthy or Cathy McMorris Rodgers as well as in the senate.

In how we need new leadership Marco Rubio would be a great Senate Minority Leader and it's bald but I think we need -- changes in Washington DC we need change but -- -- -- Time we have what we have right now we're just a matter of weeks away so what do you think they need to do and you think that President Obama DD makes a good point.

Will take -- -- with negotiations this time around.

Absolutely and he has started to take the lead -- thirty met with congressional leaders the ones that we have a and I don't think that those are going to change and we're going to see another meeting in just a few days.

But I think what really needs to happen for a deal to come together.

Is that Republicans are finally going to have to stop letting.

Grover Norquist and his pledge to hold our economy hostage and the great thing that we have seen in the last few days.

Is that some Republicans are finally saying.

Guess what I am actually going to pick a country first instead of some pledge I took twenty years ago for example senator.

Saxby Chambliss from Georgia has said that he's gonna put the country first more Republicans need to put the country person understands.

That among the -- send.

The American people spoke very loud and clear when they said we support the president's.

Decision to make sure that the wealthiest are paying what they can afford.

And and to protect the middle class and to protect Social Security Medicare and Medicaid -- We Chirac earlier in -- -- -- -- to be shocked -- agree with you but I think -- over to me what is the deal with this guy I -- he should not be running Washington he has part of the problem.

And we do need to find a way to work together and there is going to be some sort of negotiation I think the big question is what is -- What needs to happen and we don't want to put a stranglehold on -- -- that we wanted to and I think Republicans.

Democrats can agree we really need to give a break to small businesses.

And I'm -- a class hopefully we can do that and one I mentioned dozen new names of those bald names and so we can -- from the grand all parts of the great opportunity party.

I think they need to come to the table now.

I mean let's look at the election however right now we need new faces and new ideas because you know what a fabulous bar -- hope -- -- -- the last two and four years.

Failure would have not seem to come together for an agreement and we need to do that we've got to be hopefully got to try to work together and make things.

You -- that's mentions tax increases -- tax increases alone will not solve the issues so.

And I'll toss it to you Jim do again what about spending cuts and in terms of the Democrats what would they be willing to negotiate on that front or what should day.

Well I think they very been very clear -- the president was cleared during the campaign.

That the Pentagon has actually asked for less than what Republicans you know have wanted to give them and they are a lot of outdated systems.

But just don't need to be paid for in our military budget and that should be okay.

Let it really does have to start with taking a -- that death grip.

That Grover Norquist has had on not just the Republicans who -- his plans but -- American people I think if you ask any normal person they would say who.

No idea who this Communist -- should not add.

Any that input into our economy this it's it's it's should be over bid but in this death -- Has so yeah.

So can spending spending is so terrible Washington DC the waste is unbelievable we have so much that we've got to address that right away prejudice the right -- to the military Andy argued that the last word in terms of spending cuts specifically what area.

Well we've got we've got to cut across the board of me watching CDC is so bloated such terror bombing and work right now as a country we can picture we can take care Americans and I don't mean -- -- pars all the time the time -- take care of the people in need to be able to take care of the job creators we don't have -- -- a -- On them as parts tax and and get.

Only -- it just obamacare because it's really a lot of the businesses right now are struggling so.

There's so much to be worked on so hopefully we can come -- and I get to that obamacare with that John Boehner said needs to be on the table -- Obama another -- the landlady and let Robert get back we'll say happy Thanksgiving and hope you won't have a great new year thank you that's for joining us I appreciate it.

Thank you --
